I hope one day you will do a video about Chilean armed forces. They basically have the second most powerful and technologically advanced army in LATAM after Brasil, majority of people don't know that

Chile is really an odd ball in South America with it's armed forces. Rather modern armored vehicles which form it's armored corps. Well equipped navy with still quite capable surplus vessels. The air force and the equipment available for it is really the creme of the crop in my opinion, F-16's and F-5's supported by a tanker and AWACS fleet. It really is an achievement to have such a well composed diverce force for a small nation.

The chilean army doctrine is based in the HV3 (Hipotesis Vecinal III) which means that our forces have to be capable of fighting our 3 neighbouring countries at the same time. Historically we've had really tense relations with them even going to war with Peru and Bolivia at the same time and just 40 years ago we almost go to war with Argentina. That's why our armed forces doctrine is designed to fight 3 countries at the same time, because theres a real chance that it will happen some day.

It's interesting for me (a colombian) that there might be a new organization of Armored groups, there has been a long time from where i lived (in the south of the country) that i haven't seen EE-9s on duty, mostly ive seen a large number of M1117. In the last Large military operation that happened in October against FARC guerrillas i saw a large amount of ASVs and comandos paired with MRAPs (also the fact that Colombia has been capable of produced his own MRAPs and haven't needed to buy externally)

The organizational structure of Colombia's armored units is very engaging, well done Battle Order. I really like how some of the armored units are named after historical figures and events like the other navies(especially the US Navy)'s reason to give names to their warships. By the way the amount of Commando ASVs is quite huge to put it simply.

I was always surprised how big the Colombian army really is, but its mostly light infantry it seems, like 400k soldiers but no tanks? Seems weird when Venezuela has them even Ecuador does

Most of Columbia is huge Andean mountains, rainforests so dense its crazy, swamplands near the coast and there's some open plains to the north but that's about it. Its not a ground vehicle 'friendly' place

​@@kurousagi8155 They had talks with Spain to purchase AMX-30s back in 2004, but it was eventually cancelled. According to the Spanish government, they didn't have enough tanks in serviceable condition to sell to Columbia. I imagine 20 years later, they can't be in any better shape.

It’s implied here they will be used to replace M113s in Mechanized Infantry units: www.webinfomil.com/2023/05/el-ejercito-de-colombia-compro-55.html?m=1 Aside from the 13 M113s in the Medium Combined Arms Battalion (BATAC), there are 37 in the 6th Mechanized Infantry Battalion (BICAR 06) and 4 at the infantry school. 55 would be enough to replace all of them. Both of those formations are in La Guajira near the northern border with Venezuela

with 400 thousands active soldiers colombia possess huge army for relatively poor country, the demographic density of Venezuela is equal... the medium weight cavalry brigades design for fast maneuvers and rapid deployments, prioritizing the mobility over the protection... the 90mm on the EE-9 Cascavel is low pressure gun, thus lacking the range and the penetration capabilities although the canister or the HE-FRAG still suitable against infantry soldiers and pickups and jeeps, adopting relatively poor armor in highly demanded and very complex terrain is risk choice, any shoulder fired anti armor projectile can destroy those lightly armor armor fighting vehicles AFVs, the dismounted infantry and the LMGs mounted on those armor vehicles theoretically capable of defending those fighting assets from any threats within 600m, but its difficult to predict the outcome of any complex ambush in very complicated topography...

Why are they being called mechanized? They are not because they have no tracks. They are all wheeled and therefore are motorized. I know it's pedantic argument as it's a small distinction. But it is an important one because the ability to traverse rough terrain in a wheeled vehicle is reduced compared to a tracked vehicle. The reason the US doesn't use strykers to support tanks is that they cannot stay in a fight as aren't able to negotiate through a forrest or travel over rugged terrain as fast as a M1A3 Abramhs tank. That is why they used the M113 armored personnel carrier until the Bradley Fighting Vehicle was developed instead of using 5 ton trucks.

well military horses usually receive training to stay calm under gunfire, sometimes guns are even employded from horseback. Horses have a lot of benefits in uneven and covered terrain
