It's discouraging how the space-sim genre is simultaneously so barren and also so over-saturated with nebulous "Upcoming Future Early Access Alpha Proof-of-Concept" games that seemingly go nowhere. At least X4's upcoming 7.0 update is looking good from what I've seen from their beta-branch, and Everspace 2 is still receiving love from its development team.

I guess that is the problem, the genre is baren but with a lot of people that want something very specific from their dream space game, so they try to make their own. but they will always be niche, and there is no running from that.

@@danilooliveira6580 I think a lot of these developers deliberately make their games even more niche just because they don't want to be compared to the Star Citizen- or at least what Star Citizen is supposedly going to be in a decade or two. I like how Elite Dangerous is the only one with uninspired ship explosions. Although, the most impressive explosion for a seemingly fusion reactor type of vehicle was Mech Assault on Xbox original lol. They'd go critical and you'd see rays of light coming out of the seams and cracks and a huge, orbed explosion resulted, which could make other nearby mechs go critical and explode and buildings crumble. Elite be like "crackle, snap...poof!" Not unlike Rice Crispies, or, okay...maybe more like shooting a steam engine train.
