Great Video Brooke & Damien Like you, I make the first mark on the chain at the point the anchor goes into the water. (white) I then mark every five metres. I use the code. When Grumpy Read Your Book. So colour order is White, Green, Red, Yellow & Blue. I then repeat the code with double markings to include the rope. I tend to use a 5:1 ratio. So easy in 3 metres use 15 metres of cable = Yellow mark! I do not usually anchor in depths greater than four metres. This suits the standard chain length of 23 metres on the MF895. Like you I use paint and chain markers. I have a small laminated sign above the helm and on the inside lid of the anchor locker as an aid memoir. Envy you the lovely Aussie Winter Weather. UK summer weather has been very poor for boating except in June and the odd weather window. Fingers crossed for September! Regards to you both

Thanks John. Yes the paint was just getting a little difficult to see in places. Have to see how these markers hold up. Yep we rarely are in more than 4M (for anchoring)

Hi!! in my mf895 I preferred to install a Quick Smart CHC Display chain counter but your solution is also simple, fast and cheap. Very good!!

I have a feeling one day I will go down this route!

Another enjoyable video, thanks. My experience with those markers (previous boat, different windlass) had them falling out after a while. I hope your experience is better. I now have a different newer version of the same excellent concept - purchased from UK, they have a screw to attach two halves of the marker. This to make then more secure. So far so good. NB: I mention this experience in case it helps anybody. In no way do I wish to detract from your excellent presentation(s)!

Thanks for your input. We have been at anchor a few nights and they seem to be holding. I'll have to keep an eye out for the ones you mentioned. Or we could all go and get chain counters!!! hahaha

I used rustoleum paint and lasted 9 years. Did the same on my new 2023 nc1095, every 20ft but this time used only one color.

That is a good idea. We sometimes have some very muddy spots and the paint just was coming off. See how these markers go.

How absolutely bizarre! I searched KZbin for guidance on this for my MF895 Offshore and couldn't find a decent video on it. So I bought the very same markers as you and fitted them only last Friday. Edit: I bought markers for 8mm chain and they don't fit as tightly as yours. I guess my chain may be 10mm. Back to the chandler!

Are you in the north america, could be half inch chain? Interesting if they have different windlass on different models. Hope they work well.
