The US camouflage being mistaken for German camouflage is a common myth. The truth is that the camo uniforms were just too expensive for general issue, so they issued what they had produced as an experiment and stopped production. Testing had found that plain dark green was more effective than the camo pattern. The friendly fire worry is actually from the M1943 uniform jacket looking like German field tunics. The CDLC as is, is great and I love the detail that went into the content, especially the map. I'm hoping it’ll get content updates like SOG: PF is getting. I'd love to see a fully developed western front CDLC

I feel like for now this would be good as an add on for other mods until future updates are given and I’m sure modders can easily add more historical accurate things to the CDLC like for example the German insignias and also changing the medical logo because i don’t remember it ever being Swiss 😂

The red cross is copyrighted and not allowed in video games. Same with basegame Arma 3. Swatzikas and other nazi symbols are not allowed in some nations which could mean the product getting banned there...

@@aug5925 Not quite - afaik it is not allowed to be used as a health pack sign but ARMA Reforger already shows ambulance cars with the correct symbol - in this regard it would be odd if different rules applied than in general media where you see the Red Cross all the time. Furthermore as an EMT with the Austrian Red Cross we had a class about this. There are 2 symbols: The corporate insignia - the red cross and writing below like Austrian Red Cross. Then there is the red cross itself, without letters. This is a protection symbol - similar to the red diamond and the red crescent. It details that people inside are either aid workers or patients. It is forbidden to use this symbol for any other reason than humanitarian and or medical work. Eg: Ferrying troops in an ambulance car is a war crime. If the red cross is used under those parameters I do not see the harm. In fact it would even be useful as it is a reminder for the rules of war. And in my own arma clan we do in fact follow the Geneva Convention - treating wounded enemies and capturing those who surrendered.

To be honest, I feel like this CDLC, while looking good, seriously lacks in vehicle variety, as a lot of users pointed out already: no Kübelwagen, no Jeeps, no American trucks, no Sd.Kfz. 251, no Panther tanks, no civilian vehicles, no Panzerschreck... It is like a puzzle with many parts missing. It is hard to enjoy the whole picture when key elements are simply not there. Not to mention that Normandy is a well-known setting and was done before many times in different games, including DLC for Iron Front game. The fact that ArmA3 is set in the futuristic setting doesn't help either, because most assets from the game cannot be really combined with WW2 stuff. To me right now Spearhead feels like a supplement for other WW2 mods, such as IFA3 AIO. In my opinion, it will take a lot of hard work to make it actually good standalone WW2 experience. I hope that devs will not abandon the project and will add more content. But for now, I'll pass... Maybe I'll buy on sale later if there will be updates.

I'm a bit saddened that there are no light tanks, or other variety of medium tanks/heavies, hopefully mods will add the vast variety of armor that was available in WW2. Overall though this is an amazing DLC.

That's the for sure one of unique CDLC because it's first ever almost official WW2 content for Arma. I like how they done sounds, some textures and armor is completely awesome. You didn't play Iron Front: Liberation 44? I don't know if its still for sale, it was the ArmA 2.5 engine between ArmA 2 and 3. They made an official mod to port all the assets to ArmA 3.

This is better then nothing imo. Content is lacking though I hope we get more with coming updates. I see this as a refresher from cold war and Vietnam stuff. We still might get a British and Canadian update to this and alot more stuff.

@@theShermanator during Operation Cobra, American soldiers were more likely to confuse the new Dark Shade HBT uniforms for the German HBT uniforms rather than the camo ones. I’m a 2nd Armored reenactor, so I’ve done a decent amount of research on the topic. I’ve only come across one instance where a G.I. wearing the Camos came under friendly fire. It’s a post war recollection that can be found in Mark Bando’s “The 2nd Armored Division in the Land of the Dead” from a BAR gunner from the 82nd Recon Battalion who claims he was shot by a French nurse while he was helping bring wounded G.I.s behind the frontlines. Production of the camo HBTs ceased before the operation even started, and it was found that they stood out against the foliage too much to be effective. In addition, they started fading quickly, so most of the combat troops who were issued them stopped using them and wore their standard wool uniform.

@@TheBigDog90 There was a time where the western front was as illusive to the gamer as the pacific theater is in the present but games like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty still sold because CoD I and MoH Allied Assault are great. And people do know about Kokoda track and Merril's marauders - there is already a cultural capital they could profit from. But while writing about this, I noticed a different issue. It would probably be too similar to S.O.G. Prairie Fire (lots of jungel). That being said, the safe option has a danger in itself. People DO like to see new things. I am excited for the CDLC but hope they will keep updating it.

I checked out the CDLC and it looks like its made by the same people. So anyways Armas most popular ww2 mod may in fact be abandoned for this CDLC.

I don't think your African front speculation is entirely unfounded. Considering the selection of vehicles (The early production Tiger, all the Pz.IIIs, the Early Pz.IVG that still has the complex turret from the Ausf.F, & all of the Shermans aside from the 76(w) have small hatches and the low bustle turret,) I could definitely see them countering the impulse to expand further into the liberation of Europe, and move backwards if they continue to expand on Spearhead. But I think the seemingly strange lineup from a historic perspective is a also result of an intentional choice the devs made to compliment the vehicles in IFA, or at least to create variants of vehicles that haven't made their way to the Arma 3 engine yet. With the release of Spearhead, in combination with IFA, the possibilities of scenarios, or custom factions with truly historically authentic equipment has increased tenfold.

Yeah but they are all varying amounts of quality and introduce duplicate units and what not if you pair them all together, that's the big downside of having alot of them, plus their armor systems don't work very well, I had a stuart kill a King tiger from the front through the front plate, that is really piss tbf

Some the reviews on steam I agree with, the fact that there's more panzer III variants then IV, the weird choice of adding the 250 instead of the 251, M3 Half Tracks instead of M5's, etc...) but people keep comparing this to SOG, that has had YEARS of development at this point! SOG had a similar amount of content when it came out, I hope this DLC gets updated because holy its really fun! the campaign and multiplayer modes are just so smooth, the weapons and tanks as well as the sound design is just great, i mean tbh I'd do anything to not play with IFA3 assets again....

Everyone assumes it’s because of the camo but to the US Army the camo didn’t matter, they were just HBT uniforms like the other OD HBTs. There is actually more evidence for friendly fire due to those HBTs which resemble Wehrmacht HBT uniforms

So the friendly fire due to American camouflage is not true it was removed from service because it faded quickly and became very bright in actually the Americans suffer a little friendly fire from the camo uniforms but did suffer freiend fire when they went to a darker uniform in late 44 this was it waa closer to the german field gray color i think this is where the confusion comes from as there was freindly fore from u iforms just not camo uniforms the marines didnt use the camo much for the same reason except for helmate covers which is a myth into itself

Cool that they actually showed the French using African soldiers. The French used a huge amount of Colonial African soldiers in Europe. Good attention to detail.

I want to be cynical but the reason why there are sub-Sahara French African soldiers in the game is because the only french voice in the game actually is ... a sub-Sahara French African one. Also, the entirety of colonial troops were deployed in Operation Dragoon, in the other end of France.

For one, you have zero evidence to support your claim that the only French voice actor is an African person. Why would they even do this? They even resisted the German invasion of France. You need to read a book.

The developers stated that they just didn't have the time or the staff to focus on multiple fronts, Maybe in the future this might change but for the initial release it was just focused on the Western Front

Because the game and the map is set specifically during Operation Cobra, an American offensive in the Western part of the Allied invasion of Normandy. The only significant Allied units on the ground there were the Americans and small elements of the Free French.

Soviets are a bit far away from Normandy.. On a serious note, if they did Eastern Front people would've asked "where US/UK" so its always an issue. Maybe we'll see more factions down the road but who knows

The more important question would be Why no British forces? Also weirdly, the US forces hardly faced any Tiger tanks during the Normandy campaign yet it's there and we have no sign of Panther tanks...

Im surprised at the excitement of ww2 content. Its so overdone in video games. I get it if youre a ww2 buff thats an exception to that thought really but ww2 has been done to death. What would be more exciting IMO is Korean War stuff. That war is rarely covered in video games.

The excitement is because most of the work used in WW2 mods in Arma 3 comes from Iron Front from Arma 2. So a bit of updated stuff is cool.

Panzer IIIN isnt a M with shorter barrell, it has a 75mm cannon from older PZ IVs and StuGs
