Arma 3 | Spearhead 1944 DLC OVERVIEW - Arma 3 Mods 2023

To be honest, I feel like this CDLC, while looking good, seriously lacks in vehicle variety, as a lot of users pointed out already: no Kübelwagen, no Jeeps, no American trucks, no Sd.Kfz. 251, no Panther tanks, no civilian vehicles, no Panzerschreck... It is like a puzzle with many parts missing. It is hard to enjoy the whole picture when key elements are simply not there. Not to mention that Normandy is a well-known setting and was done before many times in different games, including DLC for Iron Front game. The fact that ArmA3 is set in the futuristic setting doesn't help either, because most assets from the game cannot be really combined with WW2 stuff. To me right now Spearhead feels like a supplement for other WW2 mods, such as IFA3 AIO. In my opinion, it will take a lot of hard work to make it actually good standalone WW2 experience. I hope that devs will not abandon the project and will add more content. But for now, I'll pass... Maybe I'll buy on sale later if there will be updates.

I'm intending on picking up this DLC and I really hope it produces a resurgence in the WW2 side of Arma 3 milsim. Admittedly something I'd like to see would be an equivalent to Prairie Fire's Mike Force added to Spearhead.

It needs significantly more content. The lack of basic things like the Stug, willy's jeep, additional planes, so many things. At this point you need to use IFA3 still to offset the lack of complete factions. Hoping it gets the glob mob and SOG treatment and additional content down the line

In that way it's kind of similar to SOG where it was designed from the start to have the gaps in its roster filled by unsung. A lot of SOG's current content wasn't implemented when it first came out. I wouldn't be surprised if there was implicit intent that most people are gonna run this as their 'core' mod and have IFA3 to fill in the gaps. Of course, this relies on them following that model and adding content over the next couple of years. And only time will tell if that becomes the case. But so far I'm impressed by the level of detail they implemented for this.

From what I read they were really curious and would give away the positions of both the Allie’s and Germans, like they would stare at enemy German soldiers to within two-three meters, giving the allies across the field indication of what field held an enemy. So you can put two and two together

I zeus with one of the community managers on a regular, so I knew something was coming, but actually seeing the stuff ingame is incredible. I always see people saying "Oh just use IFA, its high quality as well"... no. You can't compare the quality between the two, from the tanks which actually have well mapped damage, weapons that not only look good, but have different animations if you reload them when they're empty or if there are rounds still in the mag, to just the running animations with MGs in general. This is definitively a step up from any world war 2 mod we saw so far, with the only ones coming close being the US Uniform/Equipment mod and Northern Fronts. Obviously theres a few things missing, like the Panther, but I'm sure those will get added in the future.

Sounds and animations are fantastic. But other then that I find it a bit disappointing. 35 vehicles types is clever wording. When you realise the us only haas 4 unique ground vehicles and a plane, it becomes a bit less exciting. At this time it’s not worth the current price. Maybe SOG spoiled us a bit too much

Yep, this is exactly the problem. The reality is that there really isn't 35 vehicles. There is very little actually in this mod. What's there is high quality but it's not enough without other mods to supplement it and at that point why even buy it when you have to just use the mods anyway?

SOG with 50 slightly different backpacks is the other side of the horse. There should be a middle ground between "one side has 4 vehicles" and "each rank and weathering level has its own uniform".

Honestly the part of Spearhead that impressed me most was the progressive reload system on bolt actions. Maybe I've just never run into it before but this is the first time I've run into partial reload animations to top off a bolt action weapons magazine. They put a lot of effort into details like that and I really appreciate it. The tank cookoff system is also surprisingly dynamic.

It's a great DLC, but has a lot kf work in for itself. For one the U.S. only has one APC and no cars/trucks. The germans have one truck with a few varients, the germans have one plane while the allies have none, and the French Lib Army just has the same equipment as the U.S. and none of its own. One more thing is that I would personally like it if they added a Major and Colonel unit for the U.S, a Major unit for the Germans, and Lt, Major, and Colonel for the French. But still, the map and everything included so far is definetly top tier.

The great thing is all the assets look new, good detailing and have decent weathering effects. The flame throwers are a nice touch. And the French resistance faction looks authentic. Good quality DLC!

Looks like a great DLC. If I was a German panzertoop in WW2, and had the choice, I'd have opted for the Panzer IV every time: it had an escape hatch for each member of its crew (five).

I'm loving this CDLC! But I believe it can and will be better when they start adding more content. Missing alot of iconic vehicles, units, and static weapons. Especially the British and Canadian factions. Definitely love to see a paratrooper update that comes with gliders and planes

Game looks great, runs great but the lack of some vehicles make it a bit underwhelming. I'll give it an 8 because it looks fantastic. Just need a bunch of stuff added to make it a 10. And most people are missing the point of the DLC, this isn't about the Normandy landing, it's about Operation Cobra which was further inland, also fun tip, this CDLC lauched the same day Operation Cobra commenced.

Yeah there is not alot in this mod but people saying its not worth the price. Guys in £13.49 right now and that is with a 10% discount. Plus hopeful future updates on top I would call that a pretty good catch. imo I would like the see some ship based stuff and a full range of US gliders. I'm not bothered on factions I would rather the focus on expanding the current factions in the mod with more equipment

@@davidboy45 Are you using the profiling version of the game? It's not compatible and the only place the devs said this was their discord. I was running at 10-15 fps while in firefights using the profiling version. I switched back to the normal version and was running 50 fps on the same mission.

Gkad to see a video from you on this. If you care, this is my review of the CDLC as a mission maker: - Vehicles: They are better than IFA3/FoW and are good but leave a lot to be desired. There is a great lack of vehicles, 0 civilian vehicles, 0 trucks, cars, or motorbikes for the allied side. - Main Arms / Side Arms / Launchers: They are a lot better than IFA3/FoW, the sounds are good, the animations are awesome, and the recoil feels right, I love everything about the guns. There is a lack of variety in terms of weaponry, specially for the French, you'd assume they'd at least have a couple weapons from their military. - Gear: It looks good, much better than mods if my eyes serve me right. - Map: The map looks awesome however it seems very heavy on performance, will need to to do further testing to confirm. - Assets: There seem to be a decent amount of them for mission makers with some effects too, so that's always great. I wish this CDLC would have taken more time to be released but would have had more to offer, even 1 or 2 civilian vehicles and 1 or 2 transport trucks/cars for each faction would have made the difference. In my personnel opinion the CDLC feels like it is missing a lot of stuff that should be there to make a complete faction for Arma 3. Would I recommend the CDLC as it stands? For the quality and the assets I would say yes, for now. However if no future content is planned I would definitely not recommend it.

Got it straight away and loving it. Only thing I can gripe about is one of the US camo outfits looks too much like the German spotted camo. It was tried by the US but was removed from service precisely because it looked too much like the German one which resulted in several friendly fire incidents.

Not quite a Wheraboo, I am a WW2 history ‘enthusiast’, I can’t think of a better word to express my interest without sounding like a war junkie, but I find this period of history in Western Europe, my adopted home, very compelling. Anyway, I hope the SP experience is good, I have the type of family where I can’t guarantee uninterrupted time to play MP unless it’s something short and meaningless like War Thunder. It’s too late now to try to instil boundaries :D so I’d just be letting my teammates down if I had to leave at a vital hinge of the battle. Still, I’m gonna be home alone this weekend, so maybe I’ll have a look at the public servers.

I love the overall DLC, my only pet peeve I suppose is just how underpowered the German tanks are compared to US tanks. Like I should not be having to shoot a normal plain jane Sherman 4-10 times with the Tiger 1 before its finally knocked out.

My biggest gripe with Spearhead is despite its fresh release, it provides nothing awesome in terms of content, which is why I think its price is also wrong. Spearhead currently feels like a paid package that simply supplements the free WWII mods, although most of that content is already available in the same high quality with mods and in much larger numbers. I'm sure the devs will release updates later on and create new content, but if it's not going to be as vast as SOG eventually then I don't see any point grabbing it even in a sale... I'm expecting Spearhead, as a CDLC that focuses on the Normandy campaigns, to actually represent that era with the proper amount of content as it was at the time, including the introduction of Commonwealth factions, more ground vehicles, more variety of equipment, more editor assets, etc.

Been a OFP/ARMA 1 2 3 reforger player since day 1. ARMA 3 supporters edition owner. But even though no free DLC's anymore I just buy every ARMA 3 DLC for the heck of it and the ONLY thing good about this one is the assets and its more for mod or mission makers. Its 10% off $17 atm so would only get it on sale. A better sale though.. Fall or winter steam sale maybe? 😉

The content amount (about half of what SOG offers for the same price) and specially the performance is pretty lacking with this CDLC. The first issue is in the hands of the CDLC devs but the second issue is due to the fact that the base engine was not updated to support what the CDLCs are adding so it starts to stutter and lower FPSs even on pretty powerful PCs. It is sad because if Behemia Interactive wanted to continue to milk Arma 3 for revenue with the CDLC program they should at least continued to improve the base game (engine). Otherwise is just like adding a Ferrari F1 chassis to a Volkswagen Beatle engine, it will never reach its potential if you don't upgrade the whole vehicle

I will say though, IFA doesn’t work with the ACE advanced vehicle damage setting, which is a bit upsetting. I tried and SH44 tanks can’t effectively be used with IFA either. IFA tanks don’t take or deal damage to SH44 tanks
