This was a good review. VAG are trying to make as much money as they can. corners are being cut everywhere. I've bought their cars for over 15 years (and top end models too) and have noticed the quality dropping. Each time you press a button, it's 'Contact your dealer' or some other nonsense. I've bought a top end model and you want more? Yeah, right. I need to find a better brand more like! In England the main dealers are just as bad, disgusting service. They try to rip you off every way they can. They really need to stop this ' they won't notice' attitude because I tell you, we do notice. All this soft touch in the front and hard plastics in the back, no covers on the centre console, subtle details that they were one famous for are gone. May as well buy a Ford or Vauxhall and forget all this German Engineering shit. They are seriously losing customers with all this nonsense.

Yes they (VW, Audi, Porsche) are trying to save costs and yet price their products horribly high just because they are a "premium and luxury" brand and they squeeze even more money out of you with their numerous options/features and bundled packages of options and features many of which are standard in other brands.

5 Things Missed: -Window surrounds on interior have exposed body paint, previous model had plastic to cover this -Latch on glove box is plastic, was chrome on previous model -No carpet under the spare wheel, previous model had this hide body paint again -No side compartments in boot, previous model had these -Rear armrest cup holders no longer pop out and are not adjustable anymore From a disgruntled Audi A3 owner who had planed to upgrade to new model but now considering A Class instead.

Navigation license not purchased! What a terrible message to have on your screen, especially when you have other people in the car. That, and a sparse and cheap interior, has just put me off Audi.

Agreed, it's disgraceful this 38000 euro car doesn't have it as standard. Also the optional automatic air conditioning costs even 700euros extra. Way to get rid of your consumers, Audi. At this point when you are forced, business wise, to pick a VAG product, it's easy to go to golf or octavia that come even more equiped than this "premium (not any more with the plastics)" A3.

I have an A3 and have been in a new A3 s-line and can honestly see no reason why you would buy this car over the new golf, leon or Octavia. They appear to be much better cars for the money

Just drove an A3 1.5 TSI to check how I feel behind the weel. Wanted to order an S3. God, what an awful experience in terms of interior quality and overall driving. It is cramped in there, S line seats (same type as in S3) are terribly shaped and the side of the seat was pushing my hand while I kept it on the armrest. Of course, it is just me and my body, others might feel comfortable. The quality of the plastics is ike in Seat Leon 5F which I drive now, which I find outrageous for that price. The car on 19-inch wheels skidded on the warm tarmac after I wanted to try how it handles, ESP saved me, I felt so embarrassed, because I knew that place and I was able to make that turn without any problem in a theoretically worse car. I like VAG but this car sucks. On the positive side, 1.5 TSI enough for city driving, DSG reacts really well and without noticeable lag, it is fairly soundproffed. But it is completely not worth the price tag. Go for Leon, Golf or Skoda Octavia, save some money and spec up other cars.

The huge amount of fake vents and plastic everywhere! I test drove the S line and the interior build quality is down on the previous model. The 1 series is a class above in build quality i would say. The cost cutting on the golf and a3 is bad

Well spotted issues. I don't kow if you agree but it seems the side mirror locaton on the front doors can cause extra noise (whistling) from about 140 km/h. Since VAG does it in many cars it might be a common issue. An advantage such solution is better visiility for a driver but the cost is more annoying sound at higher speed. I was driving Golf 8 and Ford Focus mk4 and found Golf lauder both from road/tyres and from mirros. And I think the mirror location can play some role here. Would you agree?

You missed the carpet lining on the spare wheel well, also the doors no longer have plastic cladding to cover up the painted metal round the edges of the windows.

I’m considering an A3, and I was pretty shocked that when you put the car in reverse there was no visual indicators for your distance. Also I’m not sure why adaptive cruise control is an added extra on a car that from new costs close to 35k :s With a golf or polo, you get a ton more equipment as standard! But I really like the virtual cockpit and the styling.

Some of the cutbacks makes no sense. Even the basic Polo has indicator lights on mirrors. You either have a full lane assist system or you don’t, door bin felt is a must at this cost. I’m on Golf GTD 7.5 which is more premium when comparing the build and spec. Not only I have dynamics indicators, I have bigger cooling glove box, indicator lights in mirrors, built in maps for both main or active info display, adaptive cruise, auto hold, felt covered storage bins, folding mirrors with dipping function, seat heating, plus all the nice turn knobs for climate control. Right now you’re better off getting a 7.5 Golf GTI, GTD or GTE and get much more features and plenty of car. I’m guessing VAG is having deal with dieselgate losses so cutbacks are expected. Still expect better on Audi Sline or GTI MK8 that looks nothing like it.

Great video. You are right, it seems you have to pay for everything and they removed a lot of features. I have the Audi A3 e-tron 2018 and its way better equipped than this one. Also the buttons for the AC etc are way more elegant in the old model.

What really surprised me is that rear view camera and front parking sensors is not standard. Not even the LED headlights! Thats standard on my A-class.

Good video with valid points. When does a premium car become almost non premium when all the previous extra touches that made it premium become EXTRA cost options. Yes the car industry has to make savings but this is penny pinching taken too far. Come on Audi there should be a baseline package which includes certain safety kit as a must be Expected. Taking the indicator repeaters away from door mirrors- come on Audi. There will always be customers who will add your premium packages so profits will still be there. This is a difficult for everybody and customers have to be discerning when making their choices- remember that Audi!!

When you mentioned the missing knobs for the climate control I remembered a test about Audi A3, Ford Focus and Mazda 3. The result was that Mazda made 1st place, because Mazda is now what Audi was used to be in the past. Audi is way to expensive for what it offers.

Unfortunately interior quality is lower than the previous model. Also the price in the Netherlands is very high even compared to the old model, especially if you want some extra's like S line exterior or a panoramic roof. So I decided to replace my current 2016 A3 saloon for a BMW 2 Gran Coupe. Saved me about 6k+ EUROS in similar spec, also build quality and interior lay out is much better in the BMW.

Unfortunately the new A3 is a victim of VAG's cost-cutting measures and that shows throughout the whole car. For a premium C-segment vehicle you'd expect, as you should, a lot more quality and nicer finishing touches. It baffles me how the rear door cards are made out of hard plastic and don't even have carpeted pockets - my MK4 Focus ST-Line has them on every door and it costs 10 to €15k less than the A3. Sure, the overall quality in the A3 is still way better, *as it should*, but I think it no longer differentiates itself enough from the general C-segment alternatives. To me, the Mercedes A-Class and BMW 1er are the only C-segment vehicles that deserve the premium price.

@@pg87mel There's nothing Renault about the interior quality in the A-Class, which is the point I was getting at. Sure, the entry level models share the engines and a few other mechanical components with Renault, but it they were that bad I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be such a popular choice amongst consumers. The new 1 Series might have a polarizing front end and, unfortunately, it's no longer RWD, but when you sit inside one all that seems to go away. The interior is by far the best in terms of quality, it feels like you're sitting inside a 3 Series. It drives like a dream, too. Both of these models I've mentioned have better interiors than the A3.

Yeah you can option the Autohold button for 80 Euros here in Germany...just sad that they try to suck your money where ever they can....I'm owning a 2020 full spec 150 HP Mazda 3 and am super happy with it, I'd never buy something from VAG for me personally, a temporary lease at most.

Way too expensive for what you get. I think they’ve had their day with their ridiculous prices when you can get everything on a Kia plus a 7yr warranty for much less money! My last 3 cars have been BMW’s and I’ll not be getting another, they just aren’t worth it.. I’d rather have all the safety equipment you get on a Kia than have a German badge on the front of my car!

I have the previous generation (2018), and it's obviously the same story about the "extras" (that shouldn't really be extras at all!), but I don't think I'll upgrade. I don't like the changes, I don't like these new dashboards, fake exhausts, non-round lever, and obviously that Audi continues with their policy of paying extra for every bit of stuff that should come with standard packages!

I had a Golf 6 and loved it...bought a Passat B8 Variant to have more space and more comfort...man was I wrong...had the Std. Springs and this was much worse than my Golf 6...the Passat was really noisy over rough roads, unlike my very quite and comfortable Golf...really a shame that VW tries everything to save costs and try out what people will accept...especially noise insulation is worse in many newVW cars than in previous models...no wonder since almost every car reviewer is raving about how sporty a car drives but leave out drive comfort in most cases entirely

Just get a Mazda 3 with the tech pack instead of this cost-saving crap. Mazda has navigation, android auto / apple play. The radar and distance keeping. Good dials for AC. Blind spot standard. Stop buying the brand and logo, but buy quality and you get more for your money.

Honestly, I have the previous A3 (the one released in 2016 or 2017), and the quality is pretty much the same, and it is a design luxe, yet there are places where I find plastics or stuff like that

Xoledas people think that Audi is exempt from this. It’s not. It’s just that reviewers never decide to thoroughly find it. So Audi gets this stigma as premium. Meanwhile they look at lower brands that match them in terms of quality but probably paid to highlight the exact flaws to look superior. I don’t think my 308 lacks quality to the touch any less than say this car or other Audi’s. The different it just “looks” premium in the way it’s designed. If Peugeot made a car with no plastic in it. All quality and cheaper. Audi fans boys would still say. “But it’s a Peugeot” as if less quality is ok because you spent MORE on a premium badge 🙄

Streptomicin za muski rod title “hate” is more of clickbait, I don’t “hate” cars, I actually prefer VAG group cars and they are most popular in my country, there are things I dislike and that I think can be better. In this type of vide I am focusing on those things. These are things many people told me on the channel or in person they dislike or wish car manufacturers change there politics. Many chose a different brand for this reasons and leave VAG group brands.

Adding to the nit picking in this review, I am the proud owner of a self configured 2013 A3TDi Fastback, which was and still is the best generation! No question! What Audi (Or VW) have done is cheapon an iconic car, the new dash is a piece of junk, plastic and cheap really idious/ Instruments are equally pathetic/ The stupidly small auto gear shift looks like something of a kettle/ Externally the new side panels are really cool (Hurrah) unlike the cheaply idious plastic fake air ducts which are made even worse by the silver trim (Purchased from SAAB?)/ No visible exhaust pipes! WTF? Makes the car look like its battery driven!! / last but most shocking is there is NO 2 DOOR OPTION!? Really, I mean REALLY!!!?????????? Ahg aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, I will keep my current A3 until the wheels fall off!

Remove the fake vents and exhausts and it could possibly be a good looking car. Overall a cheaper Audi, with no relevance any more. Build really tacky over, say, the Mk 2 A3. Too much money spent on tech that no-one understands how to use, especially on the move.

Still more premium than the previous model. Amazing cockpit and interior in sline compared to the 8v. Very minor issues here. Moreover in 2020 nobody pay full price for a car. It's audi value all the way, price is no more an indication it is super pumped to force rent and loan. In Italy 2 out of 3 premium brands customers loan or rent the car. Audi is at 70% with audi value i read.
