I too had heard that they were unreliable but it has surpassed all expectations. I’ve got 28 miles to the gallon or 8.4 litres per 100 km. I live in the countryside with mostly narrow, single lane roads with many sharp bends and steep hills. Sadly I’ll need to sell it soon as I have serious health problem and had to give up work. I’ll hate to see it go - It’s been a superb car - but in saying that, I’ve never driven it how it should be driven and it’s been nowhere near a track.

My daily drive for the last year and a half is an FL5 (actually currently my only car), and I don't get comments like that. No issues with it whatsoever, rain or shine. In comfort mode it's comfortable when cruising, fast (yes - even in the pouring wet), reasonably economical. It's very torquey so you can pretty much leave it in one gear unless coming to a stop. Clutch is light and linear, so it's not annoying. The only slight issue is the turning radius which is pretty awful, so parking in a tight spot can be a reenactment of the famous Austin Powers scene.

What is the reputation for reliability and cost of ownership of Audi vs Honda in Europe? In the US, Honda has a reputation for reliability and low cost of ownership and Audi has the opposite reputation which is important for resale value in the US. I am wondering if Audi has a different reputation in Europe.
@KTLamАй бұрын
Nope, in Europe Audi has the same reputation. It is in essential an overpriced VW - which is overpriced itself already - and being called understeered as hell (not Quattro's) without any feeling at all. In the era 2005 - 2015 their engines tend to burn oil, so Audi doesn't seem to be that good. Honda also has the same reputation as in the US. Reliable, very low running and maintainance costs. The large herd of buyers are sensitive to the four rings. Honda, like Alfa Romeo brand, tend to have more car lovers with an eye for innovative technology. It is a bit more expensive than the otherJapanese brands, but lower than the so called 'premium' brands. The 11th gen Civic is a huge step forward in both interior and exterior design.

How accomplished these cars are "on a flowing B road in any weather" doesn't exist anymore as our roads are badly pot hoted and either clogged with Sunday drvers or with 40/50mph zones... so the only place to really enjoy cars is the track. Hence the Type R is the obvious answer. The old accesssible hot hatch argument is becoming more and more irrelevant as it's for a world that doesn't exist any more.

My M3 was stolen so costs meant a step down. I had 3 Golf Rs prior to the M3 but the mk8 interior and infotainment you wouldn't accept on a £20k car let alone £50k. The Civics problem is its great fun only 10% of the time. The rest of the time which is 90% of ownership it falls down. Interior is low rent, infotainment is poor, sound system poor, no sunroof, no leather and on motorways the noise and gearbox drive you mad, it also chews through tyres. I went Audi in the end, the S3 is better for 90% of general ownership, the quality is better and the infotainment and B&O sounds are in a different league. On a track the Honda is better but you don't live on a track, motoring journalists judge cars too much on the Nordschleife because a car is 1/10 quicker. On a wet/blind poorly surfaced typical A/B road the Audi disappears from the Honda. My M3 would decimate the Honda. The Audi in the real world is the better quality ownership proposition for 90% . That's why I got the new S3 to replace the M3

A few reasons. One is to drive down sales. Sounds mad but when they report that no one is buying cars like these anymore it gives them the perfect excuse to stop making them and push everyone towards the one size fits all SUV which will preferably be an EV. @@robsmall6466 "One is to drive down sales ... perfect excuse to stop making them" I think it is more so that these high CO2/km cars are (really) bad for their fleet WLTP CO2/km average, and that is why they don't want to sell too many of them. For every one CTR or every one S3 they need to sell *two* zero emission BEVs to get back to the required CO2/km target. Under the similar CAFE system in the USA, Dodge were paying $200m p/a in fines for all the V8 Chargers and Challengers they were selling. Hence now they have discontinued those cars.

We can definitely agree to disagree. As I got older, I realized life is much sweeter when you only have to compromise 2% of the time and get exactly what you want the other 98%. Regarding skills, most likely, I started driving long before you were born. You Honda fan boys make me laugh. 😂 You get caught up in the hyp and repeat everything you hear as if it's a fact.

The Audi S3 is $97k in New Zealand while the civic type r is $72k. The Golf R is $80k which is much better. Still, i bet the type r will hold its price better and has something truly special. If i am spending 100k i want something luxurious or special. Audi is meh on both especially when looking at the price.
