I saw a theory that I kind of liked. They said that BOTH twins are NOT the avatar, only 1 is. The white lotus took 1 twin and trained them up thinking that, that one was the avatar while the actual avatar was thrown out and poor. Only problem with this is that Idk how the white lotus didn't realize that the 1 twin wasn't the avatar because of them not bending all the elements

If you look at Roku's flashback you can see how identifying and training the Avatar is supposed to work. The Avatar is identified at a young age through a test but they aren't supposed to know until they are 16. In that time they're trained in their native element and have no idea they can bend the others. Korra was a special case, bending the other elements at a young age. So yes, they can identify an Avatar before they even start bending the other elements, give them special treatment, but have no idea they have the wrong Avatar until it's time to learn another element.

I think for all of LOK's short comings, one of its strengths was that Korra wasn't Aang 2.0. So hearing Pavi and sister being described as Aang and Korra-like is a little disturbing. Also, by the sounds of it, the White Lotus has taken their task of protecting the Avatar further than what was intended. The Red Lotus was founded in response to the White Lotus going from secret society to the Avatar's bodyguard. Could the White Lotus now be a governing body of one or more of the havens?

@@markus3892 just because someone is the original creator, doesn't mean they understand why their work is beloved and held in such high esteem in the first place. they just lucked out. if LOK is anything to go by, especially with the way they bastardised the avatar universe in general and the spirit world and with raava and vaatu in particular, it's clear to see they really had no idea what made ATLA so special. if they did, they wouldn't have left fans so split on ATLA vs LOK when everyone is so unanimous on ATLA. and by the way things are shaping with this absolute inevitable trainwreck of a series. people change, people's ideas and political stances change. people's morals and ethics change, over time. what once was thought as wrong, can and is later thought of as right or good. it's human nature. maybe they know why ATLA is considered one of the best shows ever, but maybe they don't prescribe to those ideas anymore. idk. either way, all the evidence of them losing or not knowing why their original work is such a classic is there for all to see.

Aang and his team fought to save 4 nations and thousands of people? In 100 years all 4 nations will be gone and thousands of people will be dead! Korra and her team fought to defeat 4 villains ? (One of them wanted to bring about the real end of the world). The end of the world still happened after a few decades! Michael and Bryan took the happy ending away from Aang and Korra and their achievements. It's just sad. And I obviously didn't want Korra and Asami to end up in a post apocalypse. This is why finished stories shouldn't have sequels - when you give a character a happy ending you don't take it away from them with “Well actually they failed” if it wasn't originally intended (and this third series wasn't originally intended)

Judging from these leaks, I believe this is definitely going to be a good show on it's own, but the lore and themes have been changed so much that I don't think it's going to be a good "Avatar Show", so to speak. The problem with doing sequels and prequels to a story that is widely revered as GREAT, means that unless the sequels and prequels reach the same level of quality… they seem worse than if they were just a standalone piece of art. It’s impossible not to compare it to the original story when we’re constantly reminded it’s in the same universe as the original story. Not everything HAS to be as good as ATLA… but if you’re going to keep writing stories in that universe, people are going to keep comparing.

People compare it to original and mark it up as either a 10 or 1. With not as many consensus views allowing for solid 9-2 rankings. A core reason why I think a lot of people have issues with sequels and prequels is largely because depending on the choices the writers make regarding change. It can basically render certain things from the first movie,show, book etc.. as either flat out non-canon anymore, or at minimum shuts down possible theories, & implications people had & likely wanted to keep believing regarding the original story. Arguably even worse for some it ruins their personal head-canon for whatever they choose to believe regarding past or future events that weren’t mentioned or arguably even implied at all throughout the film(s).

For me all of this sounds exactly like the 5th generation of MLP, which DID NOT turn out good. The original world building gets completely destroyed, all the achievements of previous main characters don't even matter, and some (kinda illogical) new concepts are introduced. It also seems like they both did their previous MCs (Twilight and Korra) dirty, and made them look incapable/weak. I honestly don't know where this show is going, but right now it looks like a huge disappointment.

Twin avatars, i am guessing theres gonna be lots of emotions attached. The sisters will be forced against each other by the events. One avatar will support some factions and other twin supporting other factions. And there will clash between the factions. Both avatars bound to their duties. And of course, a villain filling the ears of pavi's sister. And finally the finale would be the union of the avatar spirit and one sister will sacrifice herself for another. And in their final moments, the sister will apologize for everything that happened and dies. (The last part looks too sad right, prolly wont be true.)

Twin avatars could have been an interesting concept if they split their powers too. Like one twin gets the elements and the other gets the spirits. Then you could have the first one who is pulled to manage and deal with the nations politics and the other the spirits'. They could be thus be in a conflict of interest against each other. Maybe even fight. You could also add some special characteristic on how having the avatar spirit split in two is affecting their powers and balance. Maybe they can't enter the Avatar state with the spirit divided. And since we already had Avatar Roku with a twin (and not sharing powers) maybe what happened here is somthing along what happened to Yue. One twin was dying and the spirit or the other sister the actual Avatar saved her inbueing a bit of power in her. And then if we really want to go tragic (and cliche) by the end with the super big bad boss she has to give back her part of the spirit/power so that her sister can enter the avatar state and defeat the enemy. Maybe she dies maybe she survives who knows. I'm making this up as I go.

Yeah I read the article for it, I heard the story is going to be slightly similar to kyoshi’s novels with the false avatar narrative, which the fanmade genji had too. So it’s possible one twin is treated as the avatar when she’s really not, like yun, meanwhile pavi is the actual avatar. I highly doubt it’s actually two legit twin avatars, that…wouldn’t really make much sense…even the light vs dark idea doesn’t much because Vaatu would be within Raava just like she was within him when unavaatu “destroyed” her and that’s just how Raava and Vaatu’s dynamic/purposes worked.

Vaatu gained the ability to merge with humans after harmonic convergence like Raava did as well. But the true details aren't usually that straight forward in the avatar universe.

Harmonic convergence gave enough energy for a human and spirit to merge fully, which Wan and Korra did with Raava and Unalaq did with Vaatu. But when Raava died, she was reborn *in* Vaatu (or, technically, inside the Vaatu avatar). The assumption is Vaatu would be reborn the same way *inside* the Raava avatar. But how would you separate them again? Spiritually pulling Vaatu out of the Raava avatar like an inverse of what Korra did? Being born as identical twins sounds like it would work. Or at least that was my fanfic idea from 10 years ago.

Ya know with twin Avatars you can have one die young and the other lives on then you could have two avatar cycles and a conflict amongst them. Like one avatar is old and jaded maybe a bit corrupt, the new younger one in the next element hunted by an earth faction to preserve the "true avatar" . This leads into a rebellion and two Avatar powered factions. Maybe for fun have spirits power automatons and with the disruption of the avatar cycle maybe the rules of bending alter. Maybe a seperate faction begins experimenting with Chimera Benders, benders that are expiremented upon and maybe infused with an elemental spirit from a lion turtle. Two element benders would be mostly stable maybe some erratic tendencies, three elements very unstable mentally and physically but some work out as elite soldiers. Finally the big bad would be the only successful 4 element chimera bender who ultimately becomes batshit insane and more evil until their some mixed element spirit monster that the twin avatars must reconcile and reunite to defeat. Only through unifying the avatar cycle can they change back the rules. After that then bending goes back to being feared and hated. The next series after that would explore a fractured world (literal in some areas due to conflict and spiritual imbalance) left behind where some communities exclusively are benders and others exclusively nonbender but nonbenders have advance tech and resources whilst bender societies are not as advanced technologically and trade embargos and world politics impose harsh penalties, rations on fuels and foods. Theyre plauged by planes, bombers and technologies that outmatch single element benders. The next avatar would be hunted around the world by nonbenders whom have been fed an altered version of the past of what truely happened between the twin avatars and the Chimera King. Spirits would align with some of the bender groups and also just hide out in the remaining (but dwindling) wilds as the nonbenders make mega-cities, polute the planet and enslave spirits in automaton shells. Some benders hide out in secret and reject the modern technologies using their bending to live a simple yet secret life, the avatar would be born into a secret society like this until anti-bender forces discover the society and kill most of them. The avatar and maybe 1-3 characts flee and become the protagonist group. The avatar would be teenage and a rebel at heart. They need to learn to see the nonbender as humans whom are misled. The message of the series being one of tolerance and love and truth in an era of deception, hate and violence. We can skip some of the typical group building to focus on the details of the new world and to covere the gap between the end of the twin series and the next one. One big detail would be that the nonbenders successfully killed the Avatar for a full straight 4 cycles so elementally we progress in order but its a larger time jump. They achieve this through a bender registry program enforced by the nonbending government, they follow the cycle and target benders in the element the avatar is to incarnate into. This leads to the benders leaving en mass to escape these dystopic cities and form their own hidden communitues. This past is not obvious at first to the avatar as the government kept these efforts secret to trick people into believing the avatar is forver gone to break bender morale The avatar of that series would be making progress towards being tolerant and loving until that detail comes to light. Then they grappel with the conflict of loving thy enemy when the enemy is guilty of genocides for over 100yrs. Hey Paramount, lets talk business?

It begs a lot of questions given how the reincarnation thing works, and I don't trust the writing to be clever enough to pull it off without complicating the story. Also, the futuristic setting sounds like a bad idea. It will undermine the whole point of having an avatar or even the four elements if everything is technical and advanced anyway. The original charm of Avatar was that the control of the elements was utilized in creative ways to bring the environment to life. I doubt this series will last long if this is all true. I remember the creators talking about their original vision for Avatar The last Airbender and how it was started off as a futuristic apocalyptic story. I fear this is that thing where you’re so stuck on an idea as a writer that you just can’t let it go. You’re supposed to kill your darlings but I think they momentarily set it down for a nap and decided to come back to it and wake it up. If it is that then the show likely won’t be good. All writers know this feeling of realizing a scene or idea you loved just doesn’t fit anymore and you have to scrap it for the good of your story. It’s when you start shoehorning things into your story to fit in your original idea where it doesn’t make sense that things fall apart. I’m hoping this is not really where the story is going and that they have good writers on their team to hold them back from making such a beginner mistake.

I do hope this new show doesn't incentivate hate or ruin Korra as a character. As much the show isn't as good as the original show it is still a good show and hearing that the cataclysm in this show (if is real) is gonna be caused by Korra herself it just makes me concerned about how Korra is gonna be shown in the series. I do hope the events of TLOK are still relevant in this show and Korra isn't reduced to a completle different character from TLOK. I was thinking yesterday that what if this cataclysm was something to do with the spirit world ? maybe a war between spirits and humans ? or maybe a war between nations where vine weapons (aka Avatar's equivalent to nuclear weapons) are used. I've also heard an idea on Reddit about Sozin's comet hitting Earth in 200 AG and Korra trying to stop it but die in doing so. I've had this theory for a while and this gives me the perfect opportunity to show it. One of the sisters can bend all four elements in their respective element. But the other sister is just a very strong earth bender, who is able to control the minerals In the air to create winged currency, we also know there are minerals in water, which would allow them to control water or mud. But the big thing is, it's being able to control something like phosphorus, to create fire. If you go through the lower a earthbender, who is just powerful enough to manipulate certain things, can easily recreate the avatar in function, being able to produce bursts of flame with just a little phosphorus powder, or being able to manipulate water in a muddy puddle, as well as being able to control the air with just a little send

I actually find it quite interesting that it’s getting a sort of post apocalyptic vibe. One of the things many people loved about ATLAwas that the characters were often on the move, traveling and having to survive along the way. Adventures like the 'drinking cactus juice' episode, the journey through the desert, or the visit to the library were such fun stories that really brought out the characters' personalities and strengths. These kinds of road-trip-style stories were less common in TLOK, partly because most of the cities and towns were so advanced that they lacked distinct character-some of them felt kind of the same. Plus, the writers deliberately kept the characters from traveling much or visiting diverse places. For instance, in Season 1, the entire story was meant to take place in Republic City. By introducing a post-apocalypse setting, you can bring back those fun survival road-trip adventures that are exciting, refreshing, and challenging, while still incorporating modern technology in the larger cities. This way, those fewer cities can get the attention and individuality they deserve.

People need to leave some things in the past. I agree that ATLA was a great show but it that doesn’t mean it needs another subpar sequel. Just think about all the good shows that ran WAY too long and how worse the quality got. Enough of the sequels, remakes, and never ending seasons of a show, just make something completely new, a completely different universe.

But this is a new story, but in the same world. Thea are not making ATLA 2.0 they are making a complete separate story, is just will have the same place. So far I think the problem here are the fans that haven't been able to separate the stories from one another. Just because is the same universe and using the same concept (in this case the concept of the Avatar), it doesn't mean it will be the same story. People are also judging a product before is even out. Now I do agree that in general the entertainment industry is been relaying on complete nostalgia and nothing original has come out from a very long time. But I would say this is not the case for this show, is a new story with new characters and new plots just in the same universe.

@@TheDarkOne1920 It’s still within the same universe and magic system though. So, it’s almost like fan fiction. And the creators know that ATLA fans will eat it up just like they did with TLOK. I’m just tired of Hollywood’s lack of creativity and manipulation tactics. And it’s also so divisive because you fans who criticize these sequels, prequels, remakes, etc. and fans who will attack anyone who makes any criticism about them.

@@AbbieKohtiao Yes is in the same universe and uses the same magic system, that doesn't mean is the same story. And that doesn't make it a sequel. Creators can still make stories from the same universe, it doesn't mean it fallowing previous stories. And no fans didn't ate TLOK, almost most of the fandom recognize that TLOK has only a few good seasons and the rest are really bad and this also wasen't because of the creators, but because Nickelodeon was messing everything up for them. While yes I do agree that Hollywood for some time now has been using manipulative tactics, like using nostalgia to gain more money from fans, this new Avatar show is not one of those money hungry tactics use by Hollywood, at least with the information we have for now, we know this is not a show made because of money, is a show made because the creators themselves want to create more Avatar content. But time will tell, if this is a money hungry tactic or not, when we actually have the product to review it. And division will always happen, not people are not the same, and will have different opinions. Some will enjoy new things, will other will prefer the stay with old stuff. Now fans being disrespectful, is problem from the fans/people itself, people need to learn to respect others and that is not up to Hollywood, is up to the people themselves that need to touch grass and be better people in general. People can disagree on movies/shows opinions and still be respectful. The ones that don't, they seriously need some therapy.
