Kofuzi provides some the best reviews and clarifies the nuances between different versions like the v13 vs. v14. Interesting how shoe manufactures approach product tiers and price points. So for example, the 1080 always will have a higher price than the 880. Really good point about how body weight is a big factor on choosing the foam type.

Love these. As a 270lbs+ guy, I can definitely notice the improved stability and firmness compared to its predecessor the 1080 V13. Not that I really had any issues with the extra softness of the V13, which alot of heavier people have problems with. As a matter of fact, it's still my favorite shoe and now that it can be found for around $80-90, I've stocked up on multiple pairs.

Loved the NB history lesson. You are one of the few who can do that for us. NB is the worst in terms of inconsistent use of the FF and FC names. But I'm with you on (generally) favoring FC over FF. For uppers why can't NB bring back the incredible knit upper of the SCT1? Fortunately, I have so many shoes now that I have the luxury of waiting for the EVO SL to be my next DT!

I just grabbed these recently. Exactly the same colour way. Good shoe IMO. Im a 6"1 110kg runner US13 2e wide. Id recommend these for larger runners. They are soft enough and give you enough bounce back to be a good daily..... But once again extremely limiting in colours which is my pet gripe with wide shoes...
@LinuxScouserАй бұрын
The other gripe I have as someone who needs 4E is the limitation over which shoes I can try. I'm wondering if some of the shoes i would find more comfortable, like the Fuel Cell line never have 4E widths available (I did notice they have 2E at least!) and so I have to awkwardly size up to get a shoe to finally be more comfortable but then it doesn't fit in other ways. So yeah, you're limited on actual shoes and then the colour.
@ova_workd_down_unda_payd4192Ай бұрын
@LinuxScouser man i feel for ya. You have almost no options as a 4E. Yeah the fuel cell is the only race shoes I know of that has a wide. But good luck finding one especially in my country.

I love the 1080v13 and got them at $77 recently. I'd be perfectly happy to run with them for the next couple of years. Of course I might be pushed into the 1080v14. My issue with the Fuelcell line is that they don't come in 4E.

Right on with your idea that heavier runners might appreciate the freshfoam line for daily training purposes. I'm over 200 pounds, running 40 miles a week, and I don't feel good during (or after) a run in a very bouncy, responsive shoe. So, for me, the 880 works better as my daily trainer than most slimmer runners' favorites like for example novablast 5.

I find the V14 way more responsive than the V13, done 200k+ in both and running times and effort back this up for me. V13 is squish and absorbe, V14 squish and pop with a better rocker. Like them both, V14 is way more durable.

I bought two pairs of the 1080 V13's. LOVE them so much!! But I picked up a pair of the V14's and I think as a running shoe, there's no question it's better. It has slightly more responsive foam and a more appropriate upper. But the V13 is still my go to casual use shoe. Definitely softer and a bit lighter.

The way you describe the cushion as dampening and not giving rebound reminds me of the Nimbus26 I had and other high cushion shoes I’ve tried on. It was a very protective kind of cushion but I got tired of the lack of rebound. That’s why I still prefer the Mach6 and the Hyperion Max2, eg. The former is soft but bouncy without being mushy (which I hate) and the latter-while not as soft-is still more resilient and I enjoy the supportiveness. I enjoyed the Rebel but the last version was just too baggy on my narrowish feet. Speaking as the diametrical opposite of a big, heavy runner BTW.

@martindescoteaux9288 Yes you can. A experienced runner would most likely choose something different. This doesn't mean the 1080 is a bad shoe. For your first marathon completing it should be the main goal. Perhaps you can also have another shoe for your faster runs. It's good to mix it up a little.

They’re part of the same family (Fresh Foam X). It’s a new shoe that I think is a bit of an outlier. It’s kind of like they couldn’t decide what to do with the 1080 so they made two shoes with one becoming the 1080v14 and one becoming the Balos. It’s kind of a 1080v13 but with more foam. Or a slimmed down More v4 It’ll be interesting to see if it makes it to a v2

different runners can certainly perceive things differently. softness is one of the most subjective things about reviewing running shoes. there is so much variability in opinion. one thing I recommend to people is to find a reviewer who tends to like the same shoes you do, and then start with that person when looking for new shoes. it doesn't have to be (and shouldn't necessarily) always be me
