I loved the V5’s too. I’m looking for a shoe for my April marathon running at 9:20 min miles. Would these be a good option?
@oldmanvanrunning7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question! 👍 I think the Vongo V6 would be an excellent choice for a 9 minute per mile marathon. I've been surprised by their responsiveness and they have enough cushioning to get through 26.2 miles.

What was your final assessment of the shoe? Thank you for your videos.

Sorry for the late reply....I have really enjoyed the V6 but haven't posted an update as of yet. With that said, I'd give it a 9.4 as a somewhat versatile daily trainer

Bill - Be careful! Bad idea to show your personal home address via the address label on the shoe package. There are dangerous people out there.
@oldmanvanrunning8 ай бұрын
Agree with being careful, but it was very brief and probably unnoticeable for most viewers. Hopefully I don't have any stalkers from ASICS out there considering I have been somewhat critical with their uppers 😉

@@oldmanvanrunning I hope you don't have any stalkers out there from anyone! .... but please just be careful .... there is so much weird stuff going on in the world nowadays. @@oldmanvanrunning Thank you for your sympathy, Bill. I'm financially okay - I don't need the check to live - but I still hate to have it stolen. It was a required minimum deposit from one of my accounts that I have, and I had just planned to put it into savings, so it's not something I need for living expenses or to pay my NYC Marathon entry when marathon registration opens on February 28. Still, I hate to have it stolen, even if I don't actually need it. Bummer.

Great review. Will you be testing the NB 860 v14 when it comes out? I am wearing the Asics GT 2004 v3 and like the stability, but it is a firm shoe, too firm on my long runs. Like you, I fall into that old man runner category (50 plus years running) and my legs and knees feel it on a lot of long runs. Looking for something stable with a little more cushion than my GTs. Just discovered you channel and really like the content.

The 1080 V13 and Vongo V6 are very similar shoes. It really comes down to whether or not you need additional control/stability. If not - 1080 V13...If you do - Vongo V6

These reductions in offset are crazy for a "stability shoe", I guess anything to cut production cost is the goal.
@oldmanvanrunning6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment!....if you're referring to the heel to toe drop, I would tend to disagree that it's a cost-cutting measure. Once adapted to these lower (mid-level) drops, it balances out the stress on the legs. High drops focus stress on hamstrings, hips, knees, while low drops focus stress on ankles, achilles, and calfs. Mid-level drops are a good middle ground. I have personally found my form has improved as I've slowly reduced the drop. I am historically a heal striker with over-pronation who was wearing stability shoes with as much as a 12mm drop. Now, I comfortably wear shoes in the 5 - 8mm drop range.

Great vid! Glad I stumbled onto your vid! Time for me to update my Tempus. Im about 110kgs and I have a slight over pronation. However Ive been told to consider neutral shoes. Which would you recommend please - NB Vongo V6, 1080v13 or NB Rebel V4? Many thanks 😊
@oldmanvanrunning5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment and question! Although I can't specifically prescribe a shoe for you as everyone is unique and no shoe works for everyone, my choices from these three for mild over-pronation would be the Vongo V6 for longer runs and the Rebel V4 for short - mid distance and faster runs. The Vongo V6 is mild stability while the Rebel V4 is neutral but has some inherent stability built in. Hope this helps.

Great! Another shoe I want that do not need!! 😩😂💸 Excellent video! As always,your videos are always on point! Suggestion: at end of video can you say how you going to use them (best use) ie. Long / easy / tempo… Also, although you touched on the Kayano, what alternatives are available and how they compare briefly. ie. Vongo v6 to Kayano 30… No criticism just a request. I found my self searching for your Kayano 30 video for how your using them. Thanks again!!

Oh, and how the width. I always seek for that to see if I need to go wide or not. (On the Kayano 30 and Tempus I use a D but the 860v13, GT2000v12 and Vongo 5 I had to go wide. So that would be a great help. Thank You again for these extremely informative reviews. Insightful

I'm wearing 11.5D too. Fleet feet did a scan on my feet and they are off the charts flat and weird. I run pain free though with brooks beast 20 and Hoka gaviota 4 and i have plenty of pairs of both. Description of gaviota 5 sounds like it won't work as they claim to move to a higher volume foot. Asics kayeno 25 of years ago seemed to have caused me pain perhaps allowed to much pronation. Beast 23 GTS came out, I'll have to try it. Supposed to be more cushy maybe dumping the medial post too.

Hey Steve! Let me know what you think of the Beast 23 GTS if you try them. Have you tried/considered the Glycerin GTS series?
@stevemurray7108 ай бұрын
@@oldmanvanrunning well the beast 23 says maximum stability vs glycerin 'a bit of stability'. I do like to try new sneakers, that got me into the gaviota which ended up working out. The G4 went on sale so I loaded up.

Do you like these more than the Saucony Tempus?
@oldmanvanrunning8 ай бұрын
Hey Joe. Happy New Year!...Not so much the V6 more than the Tempus, but liking both equally for their specific use-cases. The V6 is more cushioned and less responsive than the Tempus making it more of a long-run/easy day shoe with the ability to pick up the pace a bit whereas the Tempus is the more versatile (moderate cushioning and very responsive) of the two, and potentially a non-carbon plated race option. Both are mild stability with the V6 being slightly more stable....The V6 falls right along-side the Gel-Kayano 30 and Glycerin GTS 20 as max-cushioned and mildly responsive stability shoes.....Once the Tempus 2 comes out later in '24, I will review and compare that shoe. My guess is that both will be staples in my rotation.

@oldmanvanrunning8 ай бұрын
Hey Mark! 👋 Both are excellent options, but my preference right now would be the Vongo V6 over the Gel-Kayano 30 due to the better upper and fit/comfort (for me) and for being the more versatile of the two. The Gel-Kayano 30 is more cushioned, but not by a lot.
