it doesnt look to be integral ... if it is maybe and thats a big damn maybe but even still you can get a ZT(american made) 0990 in 20cv very similar blade steel .. bit shorter blade at 3.24 vs 3.4 and bit heavier 2.9 oz vs 2.4 for less than half the price granted its steel/carbon fiber for the frame but i still think my point is valid

First off, I own Benchmade knives. They can change colors to those non-G-10 Bugouts all they want and, I reckon they will sell. But skinny Ti for more $$$? Maybe 1/2 of $522. Heck, I can buy another large Sebenza. The stock style is about that price. Idaho-made, thick Ti (a canvass for mods) and a choil one that can sharpen for 3 generations. Yes, you gotta hunt to find but it can be done.

I own a bugout and originally when they came out $110 or so was overpriced. Creeping up towards almost $200 is ridiculous. The narrows did catch my eye but the price is definitely a no go.

I am Benchmade's target audience, I love almost everything they make and it is the most represented brand in my collection with around 25 of their knives. I absolutely love all the new colorways this year. Sadly I won't be buying many, because after raising prices mid-2022, they again raised prices for the 2023 models. On the Shootout for example they went from CF Elite handles to grivory, which is a cheaper material, but still raised the prices significantly. I did pre-order the Seafoam Shootout, I'd been holding out on one hoping they'd offer some new color options, but unless my wife steals it because thats her favorite color, I have a hard time seeing myself continue to get price gouged by the company I have supported more than any other.

To me they have always been higher than I wanted to pay so I don’t have any of their products. But I also don’t buy Mercedes or Rolex, etc. That’s why we have competition.

I try not to raise prices more than every 3 years, obviously a different business. I also thought they were always over-priced, but it was enough to prevent me from buying. They have now crossed that threshold to being unreasonably priced, even for me.

@@arrowheadguys7637 Given where they are located I don’t doubt their costs have risen more than once, most businesses hate doing that but on occasion it does happen. Benchmade has long had the term Butterfly tax hung around them. I’m still amazed at the number of people in the knife community that knows how much a companies costs are and can ascertain what they should charge for their products. In another video you mentioned wanting DCA asking about the blade hardness. I would also like to know this info but the only company I’ve seen post it is Knafs. When I went to Blade Show Texas last year not one vendor could or would answer. I also asked where they sourced their titanium from and ditto.

I'd genuinely love to see a breakdown of how they get to $522 on the new model. Either their profit margin is through the roof, or their cost structure is so bad that it's not. Either way, there's a big problem here. Such a shame because 0.08" stock on a knife from a "reputable" company is a really cool thing.

so i got the 940 m4 version and it felt really gritty right out of the box and had a lot of lock stick so to took it apart and noticed a lot that could be better. the liners/housing for the axis lock has a rough surface so the edges of all of the holes are sharp to the touch and the rough surface adds to this almost like serrations so i polished the flat surfaces with a strop and inside the where the axis lock rides i had the perfect aluminum oxide 5000 grit sharper for sharpening blade serrations whic fit perfectly so i smoothed that out. i think with how rough that whole area is what causes these springs to wear out which is a problem with every benchmade…. but that wasn’t the worst of it. the hole for the pivot was so sharp and jagged that it was destroying my washers and the surface of the blade tang behind the washers had super aggressive machining lines but beyond that it was also very pitted. the surface that the other side of the washer rests against was also rough and the entire surface of the tang that the lock rides against was pitted and rough and the lock bar itself was rough. also the pivot itself is “D” shaped and the shoulders of the flat part of the “D” shape was rough because of machining lines. i polished all of that out and now it’s much smoother and zero lock stick…. i have two budget chinese axis style knives each cost exactly $50 and neither have any of those issues but my american made $200 benchmade had zero quality control.

@skutch Blobaum I have no disagreement with that statement. I put my hourly wage from 25 years ago into an inflation calculator. Even though my hourly wage now is over double what it was then, the true pay rate has remained the same. My only way to earn extra cash is to put in OT. So when I hear that the stock market is doing great, I couldn’t care less. It isn’t putting food on people’s table. Raise worker wages. It will do more good.

Benchmade is one of my top favorite brands. I get having color combinations. Usually I'll buy doubles of certain models. Keep one mint, use the spare. However certain color combos don't go that well. I was really hoping to get the shootout in a od/ranger green to match the fde blade. Maybe next time though.

What's wrong with it? I know you probably baton wood with your folders but for most of us not as rugged and manly as you a thin folder that disappears into the pocket is fine for 99% of what people use folders for.

@@Fly2kill1 while I agree school is very important, and interest in knives can actually inspire several areas of study: Metallurgy classes, Mechanical engineering classes, Ergonomics, Geometric dimensioning and tolerances, Tribology, -just to name a few. Engineers at Benchmade and Spyderco for instance, likely were inspired to study these areas because of knives.

Incredible knives ! I’m a huge fan of benchmade knives ! Unfortunately most of them are not allowed to be carried in Germany (my home country). Except the weekender (and the proper) all of the others are not allowed to be in your pocket 😢 so benchmade if you read this … please add more knives to your lineup with nailnicks or not locking knives 😂

Benchmade moving into enthusiast territory. Interesting. I am relieved that, for the users, there are makers that cater to them (CRKT, Civivi, Kizer, and of course Cold Steel). Such a great time to be a knife person, with all the consumer options available. It’s also interesting to see the approach of Benchmade to market to diverse prospective customers. It’ll be interesting to watch what happens this year with these new efforts.
