“In 1974, a large contract for the Beretta 92 was issued by the Brazilian army, for which Beretta set up a factory in São Paulo, Brazil. This factory was later sold to the Brazilian gunmaker Taurus (Forjas Taurus S/A) in 1980, after the contract had expired. Shortly thereafter, Taurus closed down the factory and transferred the original Beretta machinery to its factory in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, using it to make its own pistol, which was a copy of the original Beretta 92 design, no longer being produced in Brazil. They did this without the need for a license and they also did not have to pay royalties, as the designs and patents had since expired.[1]”

I hate to admit it, and honestly it really doesn't mean much as it feels like beretta has tighter tolerances... but my girsan clone has a much much smoother slide, like 2011 air rack out of the box. All they changed are the locking lugs and block, and of course the slide cuts for them. m9a4 and original 92fs slides... well slide right onto the girsan frame contrary to pop belief, just swap barrel and lugs, not dangerous to shoot it that way, but the inverse is not possible I don't think. I personally prefer the Beretta for materialism, reliability, and the modern frames. mm. the squalo? goddamn it's sexy

A lot of people don't like that. I have a M9A1 and bought a threaded barrel. Few years later I got my daughter a 92X. That one has the flush fit barrel. My daughter didn't want my spare longer barrel. Everyone that sees that 92X always points out that flush fit barrel as a big improvement. I'm with you though. I really like the protrusion and it looks good with the open slide. There is a movie called The Peacemaker. A guy presses that barrel tip into a hole of a bullet resistant windshield being degraded by AK fire and smokes a guy. I thought it was kind of cool to put it in a movie. Something different than that stupid take apart thing while still in the shooters hand. Personally I'd be glad they didn't just take it from me if they're that fast.

The first pistol my dad put in my hands to train was a used Taurus 92, so I've always had a fondness for the 92s be they Beretta or Taurus. I do think the Safety/Decocker on Taurus is better designed. Push up for a safe and push all the way down to decock the pistol. However, seeing more Beretta's come out with frame mounted controls and not having them stuck up on the slide is making me consider adding one to the collection.

My unpopular opinion on the 92 is that the old-style (M9A1 profile) frame had a better grip with it having its own grip profile and not replicating the 1911. I feel like the M9A1 profile fills my hand up a lot better, and it feels like an extension of my arm more so than anything else. Although, thankfully the Vertec frame guns come with a grip-insert module that brings it back to that M9A1 profile I love, so good on Beretta.
@jodylivengood40618 ай бұрын
I also prefer the filled out grip. I got a M9A1 and that grip is big improvement over the original 92FS. I got thin G10 grips, Wilson short reach trigger. That radiused tang along with those two have made rhe guns lot more ahootable than my earlier 92"s. I dealt with it for years because I liked the 92 so much. But I got bitch hands with short fingers. That M9A1 Checkering is a lot nicer than the vertical grooving. Beretta has pretty much fixed every complaint people had of the design. So pretty much if you can't handle the open top slide would be the only reason to not get one.

I always just took off the safety after holstering. No prob. Sometimes when going into an iffy situation I would hand cock the hammer while the 92 was still in the holster. That way I could just draw and pull the trigger in double action mode. If nothing happened I would just activate the decocker. Every morning before mounting up I would pull the trigger on double action fifty times to create current muscle memory. Also like the 96.
