I’ve had this happen one time without doing that, I thought it was because it got stuck on the edge of the ship so it counted it but could never replicate it. Nice to see there’s a sorta consistent way

I had it happen on the side of the ship as well (the small ladder to get on the railing right before the ladder to get to the roof) I don't know if I was too close to the wall, but it counted the beehive as collected before I dropped it even (unfortunately, I messed up my movement and the bees couldn't find the hive so I died while relocating it against the railing. Had the fun side effect of the bees being stuck right under the hive lol)

i think its the same concept as how the far left corner of the ship (beside the terminal) is technically considered "outside" and the dogs will be able to get you from there. And when you lift off, you teleport to the middle of the ship as if you were on the rails even though you were inside in that corner. Thats just my theory though

Inversely, in that corner, the dogs can't hear you if you talk when inside the ship (or something along those lines)

It would be cool if you could buy a ship upgrade that lets you put bee hives somewhere on the outside that when you take off, it'll warp the hive into the ship for collection

The hitbox of the interior of the ship is quite funky. So for instance you can grab the light switch, clip through the back wall, then jump on top of the ship and you can freely place the light switch anywhere along the sides of the ship, including on the ladder on the right side. I think this works because of said interior hitbox. The reason a hitbox is there is for both detecting items dropped inside and detecting the bounds of placeable objects. That it still lets you remain in “edit mode” while on top of the ship tells me that it must be related.

It counts because the little bit sticking out on the ship (the thing you jump on) counts as inside the ship

No, it doesn't. The "inside of the ship" area just doesn't perfectly match the visuals and colliders. I suspect it checks if the interaction box of the scrap intersects with the "inside ship" box, allowing scrap placed just barely outside of the ship to still count as inside. If you drop scrap on the walkways normally, they will not count as collected and will disappear when you take off.

i found i think a little easier/safer way when you jump onto that side thing of the ship, you can just drop the bees off the side of that and they will count as collected without worrying about jumping on top of the ship fully, and the bees cant reach you there (from the few tests i did) so it seems safe but i need to test it more rly

Me and a friend did a strat where I came extremely close to the hive to the point the bees left it and tried to block me, after which my friend came in from the other side and stole it. The bees first returned to the hive's original location, then started chasing us.

Oh this is so sick, I love march bee running but the fact that can only really guarentee 2 beehives makes it a lot harder to consistently stack up the bee hives. This one's going to take some practice though.

One thing to take note of, either cause it was patched or it has to do with being on the room counting as if you are inside, but it also collects if you just drop it at the right corner of that place, without having to jump. However doing this will result in the bee-hive despawning if you do not pick it up. I don't know why it does that and how it is different to counting as collected with the jump, but I thought it would be collected since it told me, but it wasn't.

My guess is that the ship volume is a square and protrudes slightly outside at that location. To fix this corner working without this glitch, Zeekerss probably added another volume that checks if you've entered the ship at the front but accidentally made it just big enough for the player to clip it when jumping at the side of the ship.

The only issue with this is that I find the bees often going inside the ship if someone is in there (like my resident terminal monkey), so if you're doing this, either have them get out of the ship or close the door for safety. Once the bees are back on the hive it is totally safe.

Been encountering a fairly consistent bug where retrieving the hive from the back of the ship while taking off you fall through the catwalk and get left behind. Will have to try this

I've been able to consistently recreate this but trying to stack multiple hives has usually resulted in a death due to the low stamina and not being able to run either direction far enough to escape the existing hive while dropping off a new one. Is there something I'm missing here about how to stack the hives without getting targeted by the other bees already on the back of the ship?

I’ve been trying this with a ladder that i can run up on, skipping that first jump. it hasn’t failed me yet, and i’d argue it is significantly safer (esp on march where i alr have a hard time making that initial ship jump).

This works for any item, so long as you jump up on that side rectangle. You can also dump the item anywhere on top of the ship and it will be counted. For loot, if the red collection notification shows up, you got the item!

Is the red notification at the bottom a good indicator of whether it’s being counted as “on the ship” or not? Bc I have noticed that it pops up when doing this trick, but usually doesn’t appear when people are using the more well known strat of leaving it on the front of the ship away from the opening

I have no idea what you mean by "front of the ship away from the opening," but if you mean putting it outside the back or right side of the ship, then those do not count as collecting the hive. You have to run out as the ship is taking off to collect those. And yes, the red icon/sound effect is a good indicator but can occasionally be misleading if it exits the ship "collection area" after entering it.

I put down 3 hives on the side rail of the ship the other day, and each of them gave me a "collected" message; I assumed it was because I was running modded; is that part of the changes about items staying on the ship better? I didn't wait around to see if they stayed, and brought them inside during takeoff though.

Same thing happened to me earlier today. Most of the time I'll just run up against the railing and drop them from the ground (like how you would put something on top of the cupboard in the ship by looking up and jumping), and it gave me the "collected" message when it was on the very edge of the railing. Had me wondering if the collection zone had been extended to include the rails of the ship.

I was wondering the same with a whoopie cushion, the problem with boomboxes is battery life. A whoopie trap will stay active forever, and don't cost 60 to set up.

@@BlackrobeIt means you don't have to fiddle with the horn, except to maybe attract dogs to the whoopee trap. Plus, a cushion is a lot cheaper than a horn.

I imagine this would work with whoopie cushions as well. My team likes to put whoopie cushions at the front of the ship to distract dogs, and this makes sure that we don't forget to bring the cushion back My only worry is that dogs could see the cushion as inside the ship, so it would require some testing to make sure its a safe spot.
