I just got my Surron, and I had to swap out parts immediately because a few parts are just so bad.
Here is what to expect when you first receive your own Surron.

I have a SurRon Black with DNM purchased less than a year ago and the suspension is terrible for real off roading. If I rode it more I would absolutely put a Fox 40 and also rear shock on it. Even my teen girls complain about how bad the suspension is when they ride it in rocks. Better tires make a petty big difference as well, they are just 19” motocross front tires so there is a lot of selection from motorcycle online shops. Thanks for the fork reviews!

If you upgrade the battery to a 72v one you can make the bike 8 times more powerful. Its not a stock part but its worth it.

The fox 40 is a good start I would also change the rear shock to a Fox DHX Rc-4 and for street use 24 inch wheels with maxxis hookworms it will be insanely fun lol

It seems the surron feels awesome to ppl who are not used to dirt bikes/ expensive mountain bikes, but if you have rode those before, the suspension and brakes feel crap/ weak. I bought a entry level mountain bike and I was really disappointed in the suspension and brakes, coming from riding trial motor bikes before. my dads classic trial bikes from the 1960s has better suspension! I am still thinking about buying a surron, but now I see I have to spend $ on better suspension and brakes, they have to feel good. not many used parts near me so it gets alot more expensive.

Load the float 40 air chamber with spacers, factory says 7 but I think 10 or 12 will fit... that + max air pressure should help stop any bottoming.

i don't know how many are in there right now, but i'm on 90psi (120max) and haven't bottomed out yet. If I have do bottom out, I should give that a try!

They are getting updated with new suspension parts later this year, but i doubt they will be any good.

The 2021 models were supposed to come with these suspension: ko.aliexpress.com/item/1005001997501174.html However, the distributor recently announced that it got canceled due to multiple issues with the new suspension, which means 2021 model will continue with the RST fork.

It's not very much money compared to mountain bikes, ebikes or dirt bikes. You're not going to get a $10000 dollar bike for less than $4000. Thats just life.. The battery alone is worth a couple grand, what did you expect? ;) they are rideable stock, these guys just have expensive taste, and probably the wallets to match. I've been into DH for a long time, these cost less than just an OK bicycle.. I'd say it's cheap tbh... Just throw a good set of brake pads on and some oil in the forks and you're good to go.

@@computerlodi8089 yesh that's my point. From what I've heard they are setup for light weight riders. Some guy in Korea is 6ft over 200lbs and rode downhill bikes said the suspension was not rideable for any jumps. Upgraded to a fox 40 front and its helped put greatly.

have you done the 72V battery upgrade? There's also a limiter cable that you have to cut. With both you should be doing over 70 mph or 110km/ph.

The stock RST fork is terrible. I have it on my Talaria. Recently put a rockshox boxxer spring in the RST and it made it much better.

The Sur ron black has better forks, u dont need 1k suspension. Get better brake pads. But the rest are needed

I ride a lot of downhill bikes, so I'm very much used to high level components, and the stock forks (including the Surron black fork I tried out at the store) was nowhere close to the conventional mtb forks. Each will have their own standards, but for me, I felt they were very necessary. I tried out the shimano pads on the stock brakes as well. The power of the brakes were okay, but the feel of the lever was way too dull for me.

I own a black and the suspension front and rear is horrible for real off roading. My teen daughter rode it and after going through a rock section on a 25mi mountain loop she said “I feel like I’m on a pogo stick” the damping is so weak on this suspension. If you are into off roading you will want better suspension and fox 40 is the winning ticket up front.

That was the thing that stood out to me most in this video. I have watched nearly every Sur Ron X video on YT and while the consensus is to upgrade the front fork, it was never "if you dont upgrade your fork immediately you will bottom out going over every bump". I am trying to scrape together enough $$ to get the Sur Ron X. If I cant ride it reasonably on trails without it bottoming out, I am not interested, as I cant spend another $1000 on top of the $3600 for forks.

With the price point surron targeting, its a decent equipment. Otherwise you will see not so affordable price point of 8k to 9k ebike. Then no body able to afford it. Its dead on arrival. However by going this route, surron able to offer base level equipment, and let aftermarket take over. Sort of old school Japanese sport car concept if you will. Win win.

@@livinagoodlife I don't own an angle grinder (most folks don't), but it's really cheap and easy for anyone to get a hacksaw if they don't already have one. But if you already own an angle grinder then sure it would be fast, but also likely to "tag" other things nearby and scar the metal. A hacksaw, followed by a file, is the perfect tools needed for this instance.

Switching the stock break pads to Shimano pads would have been enough. The stock calipers aren't that bad. I know the stock fork isn't great, but did you adjust the preload at all before taking it offroad?

I adjusted the fork, I tried out the shimano pads. I couldn't live with it personally. Each has different standards but for me, it wasn't good enough.

I haven't actually measured exactly but it will get me through a half day ride. I usually start my ride in the morning and charge up for 1.5 hr during lunch, and ride the afternoon. It's enough for me that way. I won't be upgrading to a 72V. It's too much money and I'm happy with the stock power.

Fitment is the same for all forks. You just need to check the length of the steerer tube. I'm running fox 40

포크 스티어 튜브 길이가 16.5cm 이상으로 사시는게 좋아요. 아무래도 바이크 무게가 있어서 코일 사용하는게 포크에 무리가 덜 가죠. 하지만 저는 코일을 못구해서 에어 사용중입니다.

Im lost here you talking about bottoming out so bad you had to swap forks. Yet i just watched sam pilgrim do 40ft jumps with no issues. How is this possible? I dont have 1 yet..

I watched sam pilgrim's video as well. Maybe I just suck at absorbing impact when landing, but whatever the case, All 5 of my Surron buddies have agreed that stock fork bottoms out way too much. It's possible to stiffen the fork with the compression dial so it wouldn't bottom out, but that means the fork will feel terrible when going through the rough stuff.

I am in the process in buying one it will be the sur-ron X or the onyx rcr but dont think i want to wait 45days for it to be shipped lol.. But my point is sams bike is different still stock though 🤔 and the 2 videos he has riding it he was BEATING on it lol 😆 his videos and the sur-ronster vids are what sold me on the bike.
