I take my first ever ride on my new bike - a Yamaha XSR 900. This is just a quick and mostly raw first impressions. It was a little challenging to try to describe the first experience with the bike while riding it, but I really wanted to capture that first ever ride on the new bike!

Agreed, the new one just lacks the charm that this one has. The new one just strikes me as generic

Bought a new 2021 myself about 5 months ago. I put a calsci windshield on it, and now I can take it much further distances on the freeway. Highly reccomended. TCS1 and Standard is the sweet spot, A mode is just too twitchy when you hit bumps. I've learned to keep my right hand index finger pressed up against the side of the throttle, to keep the throttle more stable.

Got mine on Friday, same color. Basically panic-bought one of the few 2021 models that were still around when I saw pictures of the 2022 refresh :D Weather isn't great right now so I only did like 20 kilometers on it so far but I love it. I heard about the throttle response in some videos but I personally don't notice it on my bike, but maybe I just have too much experience with other bikes as well, e.g. the 2007 YZF-R1 was nasty in that regard.

I just owned this car last month. I think its front section is more violent than the Z900, especially the A-mode. I like this feeling very much. Of course, its cushion is a little hard. I'm trying to replace the cushion. Besides, everything else is perfect.

Congrats, 2019 model owner here. They are great fun bikes. 2022 model looks alittle different, but has the new improved engine & more features. Ride safe.

I had a RNineT (rear end total at a stop light by a self admitted phone distracted driver kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2mUemqLmb5lh8U )…currently a ‘12 R1200RT…finding that a bit to unwieldy…now contemplating (drooling over) the ‘22 XSR900. I think we’re soul brothers or something. After watching several of your XSR videos I almost always find myself nodding my head and agreeing with every point you make. Same demeanor and humble (self deprecating) honesty as me also. It’s refreshing! Keep it up!! 😉✌️

I run my mic inside my helmet and it picks up very little sound from outside. That + the deadcat around it cuts the wind noise really well and I find makes for very clear voice but yeah, can't hear the bike much at all. Sitting on it, you hear it much more!

I have been driving a 250 for a few years now. I'm wondering if this would be too much of an upgrade ?

This is one of those questions that is really hard to answer for someone who doesn't know you. Some people could get on an XSR as their first bike and be totally fine; others could ride smaller bikes for years and still be overwhelmed by it. Here's something to ask yourself if you're considering upgrading to a bike with a lot more power: how often do you find you are making 'wrong' inputs on the bike - especially accidentally giving it too much gas? If you're always giving exactly the right amount of gas (the amount you mean to give), as well as the other controls like brake and clutch, you will be fine on a bike like this if you take your time to learn the new controls. If you find you often accidentally give too much input, I'd wait and practice mastering that control before upgrading. That's me 0.02!

If you start in B mode, then STD, then A mode when you are ready, you should be OK. Xsr900 owner since 2017. Riding since 2013.

It's really hard to answer this for someone else; I don't know how much riding you did in your year, what kind of riding it was or how your skills are. It is true you can lower the throttle response with B and STD mode and it does have TC and ABS for added safety but none of that stuff will prevent this bike from going stupid fast in a very short amount of time - only the rider can choose when that is the right thing to do and when it isn't. So it really depends on what kind of person you are and whether or not you can handle that. Just one of those questions I don't think there's ever going to be a straightforward answer to!

I've ridden almost everything, but when it comes to real motorcycles, I was on a 2020 Yamaha R3 for about 5 months, and put a little over 2,000 miles on it. After that, I bought one of these. You just have to be responsible, it WILL throw you off if you chop the throttle.
