After the area around the leaky rivets is cleaned and well scuffed, heat the area with a propane torch to drive off moisture and warm the metal. Then fill around the rivets with G/flex 650 Epoxy. Apply heat with a heat gun until the epoxy has gelled.

congrats on the boat find, grumman has been making great aluminum products for along time, I still have my 17' canoe from 1970 & have bebuilt or repaired many others the largest a 36' coty shea which is why i am offering help in repairing leaky rivet,s the first indication of a leak is the black stain it leaves, if you let it continue salt deposites will grow on the inside and in the bilge, this will destroy the aluminun.I have repaired many bad rivets by drilling out the old rivet& replacing it with a stainless round head bolt & nut if the area needs a larger fix add a fender washer, the preferred fastner has a allen type head

I got a 1985 Bluefin Aluminum 16' that takes on about a gallon or more an hour, it's kind of a pain. Watching your last video made me decide to buy a motorless boat and power with my old equipment. I worried a little about selling a leaking boat until I saw you have your boat crushed and you said you wouldn't sell a leaking boat. Made a lot of ethical sense and that's what I'm going to do. I was pulling for you to catch an Albie on your first outing with the Grumman. That's a really nice boat!

John, Use 2” Aluminum Tape over the rivets that are leaking. We use the tape on airplane fuselage. We call it Speed Tape. Use a plastic squeegee or a credit card to secure it to the boat. When you get near the rivet, work around it so as not to puncture the tape. The tape will act like an additional skin on the boat.
@JohnSkinnerFishing2 жыл бұрын
I like that idea!
@willieyee32722 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Additionally, to build up more thickness (to make the final layer go over the rivet better), take a paper hole puncher to make a hole in the aluminum tape. Two layers should be good enough, then place the final layer over the river to completely seal the rivet. Each layer use the squeegee to press the tape onto the boat. My daughter lives in Cutchogue and she’s visiting me on Friday. I have a roll of aluminum tape if you need some.

The fall run !!!! Remember the wave runner ?! That thing woulda been sick - this boat is gettin the skunk off it asap - I caught a weak fish this morning around 4:30ish am- still dark/ not normal for that spot, the amount of bait is amazing …. There’s the drop , because it’s like a couldasack “ ya know- so they trap the bait etc…. My buddy went later when I went to work and jigged the bottom with a white tube a-17 - my question is , the PB’s - are they predominantly on the bottom ??? There’s blitz” there all the time/

Not sure if you attacked the leaks yet……..I would suggest getting some UV adhesive and painting it around the seams with a toothpick. (It’s thick so it will stay in place.) Put a light on it and in about 120 seconds it will be sealed. The UV stuff is clear so it won’t be noticeable…….and it’s a really strong bond. Wont pop off in extreme temperature changes like epoxy……

Hey John , on fixing aluminum boats, in which we do regularly on the reservoirs it's best to hammer the inside down with someone holding a mallet up to the leaking rivet. If you dont want to do that mix up some JB weld and smear it good on the bottom and or cabelas used to sell a epoxy stick that you could heat up and place on the rivet . I would suggest the JB weld stuff its 2 parts that you mix up
