I"m two weeks into my new bike that came with a CX4 motor. i had no idea the of what EMTB mode was. I came upon a rock pile on my second ride, and the bike seemed to say, "Let's do this!". I have since looked this up. Now I understand what they're up to. It is amazing! Now, I look forward to difficult sections. this thing just motors over them. Great Job Bosch!

Extended Boost is a game changer! I love it!! Not sure if this vid did the best job showing how it works. The best way I can describe it is if you give it a hard 1/4 pedal stroke you get the same power and distance under power of a full 360 degree pedal stroke, possibly even longer if you're in a taller gear. This means that in chunky rock sections where you will pedal strike like mad, you can simply ratchet the pedals a 1/4 turn at at time and power through the whole section. Same for step ups or big logs, just give the pedals a kick and let the motor do the work. This really feels like a big step unleashing the full potential of ebike performance. This is a very clever way to get the benefit of a throttle blip without actually having a throttle. Great job Bosch, I can only imagine what the next few years of R&D will bring.

After my girlfriend rode my Trek, she wanted an eBike as well. We ordered a Cube access with the same Bosch motor, which we collected yesterday. Asked the bike shop to check for the new update over the phone after watching this video, they said nothing had come through. When we arrived in the shop an hour later, update was available! Plugged it in, around 5 minutes to install, if you ask them really nicely, get them to set the region as Canada, you'll grain an extra 5mph because they have a higher restriction speed (20mph). I've had to prebook my first service for end of August, they'll install the update then.

@jonm72724 жыл бұрын
Nothing to do with angle, it's just torque sensing, the harder you push the pedals the higher the boost assist. Emtb just jumps higher boost per pedal effort. Jumps from tour to turbo even on the flat if you suddenly pedal harder.

Steve, what did you mean 'Bosch say the pedals rarely if ever jam' at 3.33?
@zedpoutine4 жыл бұрын
I think it means when the motor doesn't give any support. He mentions this when talking about the extended boost feature where one is going very slowly - no pedal rotation(?) - over a difficult obstacle. You then apply pressure to the pedals and the motor "kicks in". If the motor did not kick in, then this would feel as if the pedal "jammed" since it would be almost impossible for the rider to move the bike- or rotate the pedals - on pure leg power.
@derekharper60314 жыл бұрын
@@zedpoutine It will be interesting to see how this works in reality. Having ridden ebikes for a while now, the one thing i notice is that a stalled ebike, sucumbs to gravity more than a lighter non ebike.. i.e if an object or incline is causing you to stall, calling on the motor to give you a turbo shove without the need to pedal sounds like a great idea at first and sure may at times work, however being clipped in when this occurs might be an unwelcome shove :)

Will the 2020 models receive the software upgrade this year? Three days ago my CUBE shop didn't mention the upgrade. Are there really no hardware differences? They are not really getting an other 10 Nm just by an software upgrade, are they? I bought my bike, a CUBE Reaction Race 500 2020 three days ago, this is kind of a mixed blessing. It is one of the BOSCH low points, that you can not upgrade your software at home. Not only is it necessary to bring your bike to your dealer, you must pay for an upgrade every time. Nevertheless I have been riding it all over Munich and about 60 km in two days isn't too bad for somebody who returns to cycling after more than 30 years. I'm enjoying my bike a lot. The BOSCH Gen 4 motor is fantastic. I can ride my bike even with a severely broken foot without major pain even on medium distances. My E-montain bike allows me to get back into one of my favorite sports. It makes me happy. I'm already sure, that buying the Reaction was a great decision.

Everyone focusing on how annoying it is to have to get the bike shop to do the upgrade. But how awesome is it that the bike you already own is getting more power and features added after you bought it. When was the last time a car company did that (other than tesla). 😃
@Snipeonz4 жыл бұрын
@@Adamoo8 Having to go to a dealer to do a simple firmware update is just part of the problem. The real problem here is how irreparable and unserviceable these motor companies have made their products. Open up the motor yourself? Warranty voided. Circuit board fried? Buy a new motor. And what if your motor is from years ago and has been discontinued? Depending on what bike it's on, you're basically forced to buy a new bike. While this business model is perfect for their profit margins, it's subpar for the environment and consumer. While this update is great in the sense that it makes you feel that your motor is still relevant, its doesn't solve any of the problems mentioned above.
@Mike.Muc.3.14154 жыл бұрын
@@Adamoo8 You are not wrong. ;-) As a techie it is just a little frustrating. The one thing I miss about my bike is better connectivity. The sensors could offer a fantastic foundation for an entire ecosystem of electronic gadgets and apps. For example, it would be extremely easy to use the sensors measuring how much energy the rider puts into his pedals... Sadly Bosch doesn't seem willing to open the interface standards. I get this for safety related motor features, like the output and the top speed, but other brands seem to be much more open, I'm looking at you Specialized... ;-) Software upgrades, based on signed code shouldn't be a problem at all.

What about the knock in the motor when riding is it still there? as it is annoying from what I hear. Maybe they should concentrate on that problem rather than ignoring it eh

@@johncooper6884 Thanks mate, have never ridden one with the Bosch motor but from all reports I have seen, the knock is def there, but will try one in the Focus Jam and see for myself. They look the goods and seem to be improving things at a good pace.

I need to update my gen 4, but we have no dealer here in my country. does anyone know if you can update the motor just by having the motor (without bike)? that case I would ship the motor only, to the original dealer, your feedback will be highly appreciated!

How does the customer make the update? Must go to a workshop? What is bothering me with the new Bosch is they are making us more dependent of the workshops and not always we have a good workshop nearby that won´t ripp us off. I got yamaha in one site and bosch on another, got no probs going to a workshop where I have the bosch bike but where I live most of the time I have yamaha and have no reliable workshop nearby. If updating to keep it optimal is the way to go, they should give the consumer the opportunity of buying the software and update our bikes directly from the brand web and be independent from the workshops. Bike industry always made it easy to be independent so I hope motor producers will do the same
