What happened to all of our dahlias? Well, in this video, we'll tell you and show you what garden care we need to get done in our garden. Hydrangeas need to be deadheaded, perennials cut back, AND we'll show you our new summer flowering bulbs ‪@edenbrothers8767‬ sent us (which we can finally plant, soon, now that the weather has warmed up enough)! It's a fun day in our garden and we hope you enjoy it with us. 😊Definitely let us know what you are doing in your garden right now and what perennials are growing. And, of course, thank you for watching! 😊

Hi there! We thought about doing a video on planting these dahlias, but we have an older video where we did that, and we needed to just get these planted fast. Might make a video on planting the new gladiolus bulbs. If you are looking for bulb planting and care videos, we have 2 playlists; one for Everything Bulbs: kzbin.info/www/bejne/baDak2uPmJZod5o&pp=gAQBiAQB and then a playlist for Fall Planted/Spring Flowering Bulbs: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2KbZIN9r6iDmdU&pp=gAQBiAQB We hope that these videos help you with any of your questions, and if not, please don't hesitate to ask on any video or you can email us at SeanandAllison@spokengarden.com Thank you for watching! 😀😊

I know, obviously, it is best to purchase your bulbs from a reputable source like Eden Brothers. My problem is anytime I go into a big box store and I see clearance bulbs that are sprouting I always want to save them. It literally pains me to know that they will just be thrown away. Most of the bulbs are out of season but I plant them anyway and they seem to do well-ish. I have a really long grow season in 8b but I'm wondering if I might be doing these bulbs more harm than good by forcing them out of season. I have tried, in the past, waiting until they are "supposed to" be planted but the bulbs always seem to die before I have the chance to put them in the ground. Right now I have more lawn than I want to have to deal with so I just plant the bulbs willy-nilly knowing I can always go back and move them if need be. This is really only my second year flower gardening full-time. I guess I just need a little reassurance that I'm not totally messing my garden up by doing this.

I here in Texas my hydrangeas have already bloomed. Once the blooms are spent, should I dead head as you have done?

Will deadheading the hydrangea produce more blooms?
@SpokenGarden

Hi there! Good question. It depends. If you have a reblooming variety, then deadheading can usher in the next flush of blooms a little faster. If you have a regular or traditional hydrangea that blooms once a year, then deadheading won't help with more blooms. In general, for reblooming or traditional hydrangeas, deadheading helps keep the plant looking tidy and lessens disease and pest infestations. So, definitely know if you have a rebloomer or not. ALSO, different species, including hybrids, will flower on last years or older growth (or wood) and others will flower on this years new growth). For example, Big Leaf or Mop Head Hydrangeas mostly flower on last years growth, but some newer hybrids will flower on both old and new growth. Get very familiar with your hydrangea(s) and know if you are growing a rebloomer or not, and on how-old-of-wood your flowers are growing from. Hope that helps and thank you for your question and for watching!
