With that much more club head speed but producing 3-4 mph less in ball speed you were definitely not hitting the Mavrik as well or as close to the sweet spot. If you adjusted for the same smash factor as you hit the EF I would assume you would have gotten 5 yards or maybe even more. Certainly not a definitive test especially if you have been gaming a EF and are potentially more comfortable with it than the Mavrik. Familiarity breeds contempt.

I recently discovered your youtube channel and love it. I have only played sporadically over about 20 years and never really improved. I still use a now very old Nike SQ Dymo, which by today's standards makes an awful ping noise lol. I watched a video of yours last night about getting better driver distance and went to the range tonight and it was amazing. I went from topping it and slicing it about 150m , to tonight fairly consistently crushing it (for me) uphill right over the top of the 180m (the furthermost board we have at the range here) board landing close to 190m and rolling on about another 20m - 40m. All basically as before I had the tee too low, i was lining the ball up too far back from my front foot. Just fixing that seemed to fix my slice and gave me a huge amount more power. Thanks a lot! Sorry we do everything in metres here in Australia :) I had to hit through the haze of bushfire smoke too.

I very much appreciate the thoroughness and unbiased nature of your reviews. One thing that would be great is if you could bring back your mid-handicap reviews. I suspect a large part of your audience are in the 10 - 20 handicap range with driver club head speeds in the range of 85 to 100 mph (as opposed to your 115 mph). (It is awesome watching you carry your tee shots around 285 yards :-)) As to your question, if I had to choose between the SIM & MAVRIK with my pocket book, the answer would be neither as it doesn't appear that either is better than many of the 2019 driver offerings. Physicist here, I really like this driver. The shape is legitimately good, about the best aerodynamics shape you're going to get. All of the vortex generators and other fluff seen on other drivers don't work, a smooth shape like the back end of an aerofoil is the optimum. The driver face, I'd been saying for a while they should look at optimising the face to make the ball come off at the same speed all over. Thats what they've done here. Not sure how well it works, but its one of the only things I could think of to theoretically help mishits (like "speedfoam" just better). Frankly I'm now at a loss to think what else I would do to improve drivers beyond these models, no other gimmicks or tricks actually make a difference in the real world. I like it.

I have watched a few reviews for new drivers now and I think the most important thing for us amateurs Is the consistency of the strike and how far the ball will travel on an off centre hit, clubhead speed and balls speed is for professionals. Clubhead speed for SZ was 0.2 faster than normal but ball speed was 1.4 slower. This means you didnt have the same smash factor with the SZ-not surprising with it being more difficult to hit. Interesting then that you got the same total yards of 307 with both. Makes me think that SZ can perform even better if you can manage to get solid strikes on it.

Club head speed is really the product of all the energy in the body's hinges being multiplied in sequence, minus the energy waste or leak attributable to opposing forces both inside and outside the body. This means the fastest club head speed will be achieved via the proper timing and sequence of the release of those hinges, the joints, and not from how much Force or power is supplied by muscle exertion. Another great video, Rick

Thanks a lot Rick for the great review ... As per my humble analysis for last six months, the claim by the company for 5 yards longer is unreal ... at the same time I conclude that the major difference between the two is response for off center hits ... with COR value being constant, how can company claim to increase the distance? By aero dynamics and COR value for off center hits ...Callaway has achieved both ...Rick's result have shown that swing speed with maverik was faster... and i have myself used mavrik ...dammmmm ...it is indeed good in off center hits ... so good that I purchased one ... summary is that if you hits the driver center most of the times, you won't be benefitted with extra distance very clearly from naverik ... but for players like me who need ball speed from off center hits, they won't be disappointed ... i have gained 30 to 40 yards for off center hits and 40 to 50 yards on center strikes ...my previous driver was Tylormade SLDR

yeah, that's an odd blanket statement coming from Rick. I only swing driver about 100 mph (less if i'm feeling stiff, and up to 105 if it's hot and i'm really loose), and the sub-zero epic flash was the club for me. I do usually hit around the middle of the face, but i tend to not get the best attack angle, and the SZ works fine for me. I average about 260-270 yards including rollout with it, and i hit a little under 60% of the fairways i play.

Love the honesty. Find a driver you like and stick with it for at least a few years. The Mavrik is really the Rogue replacement, not the Epic Flash replacement so it is probably better than the 2018 Rogue. That being said, they made their 5 yard claim against the Epic Flash instead of the Rogue. Well done.

Once again, no real difference between this year's model and last. If it doesn't benefit someone at Rick's level, it's unlikely to do anything for the average club golfer. My wallet is remaining firmly closed!

Peter Molyneux his efficiency was also down in the Mavrik head vs the epic flash. 1.39 vs 1.42. Clubhead speed up, forgiveness is higher for only losing two mph ball speed on strikes not quite as efficient. Human element always makes these reviews tricky, cause unless you’re hitting them both the same, how can you say which is better?

I did testing of the Sim against my M3 gamer and no matter what the TM rep tried, it was always 5 yards shorter. Saved myself $500.

There’s simply just not much left the manufacturers can improve on year over year. The face of the clubs have all been at the legal limit for some time now. I’d be interested to see if there is much difference on off center hits. I’d rather lose 10 yards to be able to hit it straighter.

Work in a golf shop and got all the new demo clubs this week have to say I didn't think there would be any noticable difference from 2019 but fell in love with the mavrik sub zero absolute beast, not much between the other manufacturers but this club takes the piss! I don't work for Callaway I swear 😂
