Between update 5.0 and Thrones of Decay you get some nice changes for the Dwarfs. Malakai is a Slayer but his faction focusses on all the different guns and making them stronger. Well what about Ungrim? Well Ungrim has changed and he really knows how to have a unique campaign now :)

The way I think of the new dwarf campaigns are that of Grimnir and Grungni. Grimnir is for expansion and reckoning, Grungni is for rebuilding and fortification and taking breaks from the age of reckoning

They adjusted Umgrins initial battles too? Pre-patch you actually are moved back quite a significant distance and had to fight an army first - then the settlement - then Fallen King mountain settlement army + settlement. Now it looks like they removed one army of red eye in its entirety. Allowing you to actually expand a lot quicker, instead of the tedious walking with the extremely high movement cost area. And Umgrin starts with 12k in the bank? Thats insane. All that is more of a buff than the actual new skills....

This DOES look nice, although allot of the juciy stuff for the slayers seem to be endemic to the character rather then the faction itsself, don't get me wrong the minus build cost for slayer buildings is nice but, i almost feel like going with Malakai and then confederating Ungrim into the fold would result in either equall or better results, presuming the Goblin Hewer benefits from Malakais workshop, and of course all the Legendary items you get from Malakais unique quests.

@TheGreatBookofGrudges you cannot disband Heroes and store them in the recruitment pool, like with Lords. They are always permanently disbanded just like regular units.

Looks good, true, but I wish they gave him a new mechanic like they did with Gelt. typically speaking, I'd love for each race of the DLC to get 1 vanilla LL get proper rework with actual unique mechanic with it's own UI and stuff. ToD really gave Warhammer 3 a new wave of vitality with these updates! Other Empire ,Dwarf and Nurgle factions are now more interesting and worth revisiting! I had no interest in Slayers before, mostly because ti never had chances to properly use them and when i did they sucked) but after this update i genuinely want to explore how to properly use them!

Ungrim finally becoming relevant. I've always felt obligated to start as Thorgrim cuz his faction effects were on a whole other level. Belegar had his situation and Grombrindal went so far away when I like to confederate the dwarves. That said, it does tempt me to try that as Grombrindal. Anyhow, now Ungrim is actually a choice rather than a sacrifice compared to Thorgrim.

only problem is ungrim has minimal unique faction mechanics. Worth way more confederating rather than playing. its a unique start and u can occupy frozen easily but u miss out on so many mechanics from another lords faction.

Well that 75% damage to casualty is bit little, but fact that it used to be 50% Slayers unit damage, was bit too much too bad they didn't set it to 66% instead.

No, it's a quest battle. Malakai specifically gets them at turn 1, but all other factions that could get them, still can.

@@Marakano The most likely answer is that AI Malakai doesn't get them gratis to start, or that they do leave an AI if a player goes through the means to get them. As for co-op mod, that's a mod, so they'll have to sort out that question themselves, but the answer will likely depend on how CA handles Gotrek and Felix in multiplayer.

@@Marakano Idk, only seen it from a single player perspective. Then you can just get them, and as Malakai you just get them immediately. I believe it works the same ways as Lord Kroak does I believe (Iza gets him, everyone else can get him in a quest battle). I don't actually know how that works when multiple people play lizardman in the same campaign either.

GBoG is ussually excellent but I hard disagree at around 02:30 when he uses the phrase "slayer faction". Because of the faction effects, it is not. But it should be. As it stand, Malakai is much more a slayer faction. Which should not be. Because the Ungrim effects that are relevant are lord effects and the irrelevant effects are campaign effects, infantry speed being the exception.
