OMG, what a fantastic charity ... thank you Michele! 👍❤ My mom adopted a very tiny kitten in the 90s, whom we named Boots. He was the most beautiful, fluffy little boy ever, but he constantly, viciously attacked us, the dog and destroyed whatever he could. He would poo on the bed and was always hissing and growling. We had to have a 5 foot high pen built for night or someone would wake up bleeding. My mom had animals her entire life and was an excellent trainer, and was home all day, so it wasn't lack of knowledge, training or supervision. She spent a fortune at 2 different vets, ruling out health issues and even went to a cat behavioralist. They all thought he had brain damage and should be put down. But we just couldn't do that. I told all my friends about it and one said she knew a woman who cared for "unadoptable" and unwanted cats with her husband. She lived in the country and had a huge property and barn. She had all her cats neutered or spayed, and the same shots, flea meds, exams as her indoor cat. She agreed to take him! We got a tour of the barn, which was heated, lighted, super clean and had designated stalls for kittens, special needs, feeding, litter boxes, etc. There were toys everywhere and a small flap so they could also go outside (the property was all fenced). It was PERFECT! There were around 25 cats in the barn and I fell in love with one. She followed me everywhere! I asked about her story and was told her and her brother were found wandering the side of the road nearby. They were in bad shape, and just 5 months old. She said she wasn't able to find their owner and assumed they were dumped. They appeared domesticated so she was going to try to find homes for them. I called my mom and got the OK to adopt her, and my friend adopted her brother! Both cats lived very long, healthy and love filled lives. But the story doesn't end there! Nine months after "kitty trade day", I received a letter with a photo of Boots from the woman who took him in! She said he got along well with the other barn cats and climbed his way to the Alpha spot. He was a beautiful, healthy, friendly, happy cat, who she loved so much that she allowed him in the house! It turns out he was just feral (wild), and acting out because we kept him indoors 24/7.
