If Stephanie hasn't seen this episode, it might be a nice idea to take a small remnant of the Toile to her after the curtains have been completed. Stephanie frames Toile as well as using it for decor around the chateau and may know the history of this design or the remnant will add to her knowledge.

Patrick, I had to smile when I saw you in long socks and shorts. The first time I saw my husband in that outfit I just shook my head. Well, there is a reason. The two pair of long socks are left over from his hockey days in Ohio. They also protected his legs while out doing yard work in the unbearable humid and heat in Florida. When he can home from work, those socks would be pushed down to the tops of his boots. It's always a pleasure to save your videos when I'm ready for a cup of coffee on the deck. Oh my goodness...I would be in heaven having those peaches and blackberries on my property. Good job picking the harvest Patrick! I feel the pain you went through being attacked by the brambles...as a child we went blackberry picking one of us always managed to tumble right in and came out screaming...ahhh memories! Patrick you pick peaches like I pick almonds from an almond tree when I was a small child. LOL. Oh my you had me smiling with that memory. My mommy came running out asked me if I picked the almonds from the tree and I could truthfully say no. Then she asked me how I got them. So I showed her. She had to laugh, at my creativity of how to get the almonds off the tree without picking them.

You said a real truth - what one generation likes, another thinks is ugly. That magenta pink and turquoise are pretty bold! I remember when peach/mint/pale blue came in in the 1980s - then it was a fresh change from the earthy 70s; now it's considered washed out and sickly. Now we see so much white/gray/artificially distressed, which a few years ago would have been anathema. Glad you got that cute toile - I am sure it will be charming.

Oh yes Lisa. Thé colours of the 80….. I loved the minty greens. We will have some off white and grays because the chateau had that originally but we don’t need to artificially distress…. 😂. I am looking forward sewing the toile curtains. Thank you so much for a great comment. 😘💖😘

What a wonderful discovery, finding the fabrics behind the door lock. Kuddos to Margaret for noticing them. Not to mention all of help from your parents, Patrick, but also to Margaret's husband. You know, having all of those white peaches, you may enjoy making Bellini's. I am sure you already know about them. They are mostly white peaches and Processco. Interestingly, the Bellini was first invented in 1948 at Harry's Bar in Venice Italy because of the owner, Cipriani, was reminded of a beautiful sunset painting created by Giovani Bellini, so much that he named the cocktail after the local artist. Of course one must remember that the origins of this cocktail have many different opinions many of which may or may not be accurate. Although there are many recipes for them, I think Harry''s happens to be the best.

Hi fellas, wow what a find. It's lovely to have a piece of the past right in your hands. I'm sure you'll be able to incorporate that color somewhere in the room. I'm so glad the material got there for you to make your curtains, they are going to be very nice. That has been the material that Stephanie has been teaching us the history and meaning behind the scenes in them. And your guests how lovely of them to help you I love it it's awesome. And I was already watching Stephanie serve your marmalade to Guess that we're coming back to see you the other fellows I don't remember their names I'm so sorry. How fun. Patrick you'll be happy to know that I've been out of it a bit as I was just sitting in my chair that I used to make it around the house until I'm able to walk full-time and my oxygen hose got caught around at the bottom so I was trying to figure out how to get it loose and not wake up my husband to help me. So while I was contemplating it I fell asleep and as I was sleeping I did a face plant off my chair right onto our floor which is a beautiful tile that looks like wood. It's really funny until you actually do it and then when the fireman come to try to take you to the hospital but you really won't let them it's just not that much fun. Although, there were a couple of really cute firemen. I told Tom that, he says it's okay if I go out with him I just can't have too much fun with him. My darling Cliff. Yes they are fabulous and people who watch the vlog, might want to help. Tomorrow we will start building the first dog run and make elderberry juice. Picking ones own fruit and vegetables is therapeutic. Jane and Tony com by to fix our side gate with my dad. Good morning Patrick & Stuart, what a lovely video!! I so loved the collection of goods bought, they look as though they have always been part of the chateaux. The old porcelain plates hanging together putting on a fine display, loved the old cupboard and the porcelain jugs to dear for words. Now that copper jug just finished off the corner completely. Whomever discovered that idea, well done. It was mindful to collect as many berries as possible, then saving the peaches for this season, well done. Try and do some fresh peaches in a sweet white wine for desert, they are just too delicious. Now that piece of fabric Margaret discovered, I would take photos from the video, keep the material as is with pins and all and box frame the lot. That would be a masterpiece all in it's own class. How beautiful it must have looked when it was just done. The door will be lovely once cleaned and sanded, or did Margaret do that already. I have goods that when it comes to cleaning I could just hand it out but once it's gone that's it, gone forever. Clean it up if you are that sick and tired of cleaning and pack them away for later. At the time we think oh this is just so smart but when the novelty wears off, so do we get bored with our gifts. Move the stuff around. I have a lovely wicker tray, it's all wobbly, hardly use it, it makes the crockery unstable, so I decided I am going to get a piece of glass cut to size and place that inside and voila, all level and perfect. Sometimes we just need time, ideas will come with a solution. Depending where the door fits, perhaps you can cover it with another fabric again for privacy or I would leave it for the light to shine through. It was a lovely video, it was joyful and exciting. On the door you can still see the stripes of the measuring of the distances for the pleats in the fabric. A little tip if you make bramble jam: Use a 'Flotte Lotte' so you don't get so many pips and other hard parts in your jam! I also add a sachet of vanilla sugar...just rounds off the taste. Love your chateau!

Editing gets better and better! I don't always comment but I have become addicted to my midweek update on Château de Colombe. I am delighted life is full of joy and that you have successfully started tour gîte operating business . One thing I was wondering is how you intend to prepare the chateau for the winter, the heating, insulation...could you cover that in another episode? Regarding your peaches, I am amazed by the quantity you have considering the bad frosts in early April. What you harvested are commonly known in France as " pêches de vigne", a hardy, thick-skinned, reddish variety which used to be grown in vineyards. Normally they are ripe in October, but this summer has been.so hot. They are also great in tarts.

Thank you Francois. Stuart does a great job! We have our start. That is true. We are very happy about that. Winter preparations are a big item. We have to order oil and decide what rooms we want to heat. Definitely going to talk about that. 👍🏻. Great idea. The peaches are close to a barn wall I think they got lucky and so did we in return. The farmhouse looks lovely and inviting. The fabric bits are a wonderful find. The salon with that fuschia on the walls would have been blinding! Nothing subtle there. When I pick berries I pick into a small bucket hung around my neck. It means both my hands are free so I can not only pick faster but also ward off some of the thorns. Raspberries and blackberries do tend to be a blood sport!

Gentlemen, I'm amazed at the find of the fabric on the window. I have never ever seen anything like that before as a way to attach a curtain. However, as the art historian I am, I advice you to use more regular ways to hang your curtains 😉. I wonder about that date of the fabric. I suspect somewhere in 20th century.

Hi Robert. The fabric is a re-print of an old Toile de Jouy that we ordered from the manufacturer. The ones that we have already in the farmhouse are a Laura Ashley fabric that we got as a gift from my mother who had them for a long time. Hope all is well. 💕
