I enjoy it, my first chromecast since the original version. And right now preferring it to my Amazon Firestick. It is nice to have access to the play store and you can side load apps too. The best part of it all is the remote, you can power your tv on and off and volume. So, you only need one remote now.

Another "feature" I'd like Google and Amazon to work out is to allow Google to see what you have purchased, rented, or added to your Amazon Prime watchlist so it can show up on the Google TV menu. Right now all Prime Video content on the Google TV is "generic" in the sense that it doesn't know anything about your Prime Video account -- what you've watched, what you own, or what you've added to your watchlist.

The Chromecast with Google TV has ads! The "For You" contains suggestions for apps you don't have installed and have not subscribed to. For instance it will make suggests from HBO Now even if you don't have that app installed. Also demonstrating the new Chromecast with Google TV without showing the "Live" tab is doing a disservice. I realize not everyone has KZbin TV but that really is the killer application for this product. Being able to integrate live tv with your streaming services all on one menu is incredible. Hopefully it will support other live services like Hulu Live, ATT Now, and Sling TV eventually.

With a mic AND cross-channel searching / smart suggestions, this is a no-brainer! I'm already a heavy Google user, so Google knows me even better than most of my good friends. So I'll totally get this, but will wait for a Black Friday or Cyber Week deal. This new Chromecast will make my cheap old Chromecast into a doorstop. And my not-even-one-year-old Roku Premiere will be left abandoned, lonely and jealous. (Had I bought the Premiere Plus with built-in mic, it might at least get more love.) I just hope that after I get this new Chromecast, I can sell the Roku Premiere for at least half of what I paid for it!

I would avoid it im 2 weeks in and the thing is terrible i plan on returning it asap. Laggy unresponsive UI that sometimes had double inputs and other times misses them entirely, offensive Google assistant implementation that is unfunctional and also gimps the system if you try to disable it.

One thing this needs is Nest (yes that's what I meant) camera integrations. I want to be able to do video calls/Google Meet/Hangouts/Duo using this. With that feature it would be a top tier product.

I can watch my Nest camera through my Chromecast with Google TV. You could do that with the older Chromecasts as well.

I doubt it works with iPhone. From what I have seen you can setup different profiles linked to different google accounts and switch between them.

Iam an amazing prime member and bought a roku ultra to use with my hue gradient light tv strip. I have not set it up yet. Is there any advantages of getting amazon fire stick instead since am an amazon prime member or should I stay with roku ultra or get the new chromcast with remote? I have echo and Google devices too. Just need a streaming service for my apps so hue lights can sync with them. Tv native apps don't work with hue gradient lights that's why I need a streaming device. Right now I have external chromcast but the downside is that I have to use my phone to stream to tv. Rigjt now I have direct tv. Will I be able to get all channels I currently have right now with one of the devices mentioned avobe?

You have extremely nice review but I couldn’t find what I’m looking for. Example, if I connect this to a projector, is it possible during casting, you can split the sound to output in a Bluetooth Home Theater instead of projector sound output? I have connectivity issue in my home. The home theater is in front and the projector at the back. Using 3.5mm jack wired will not give you Dolby Atmos Surround quality. My projector has only 3.5mm jack and AV options which both of them are not surround sound. My only hope this device can split the video and audito into its Bluetooth. I have it and it is great. I don't care for the remote but you can pair with the Fire stick and other remotes. I also have it paired with a Surface mouse. I find the whole experience much better than the Fire stick but still prefer Roku.

Just wondering why do you still prefer Roku over the new Chromecast, since Roku doesn't have cross-channel searching? I haven't bought this yet, but it seems far better than my Roku Premiere, which does not have a built-in mic like this does -- and for much less than the Roku Premiere Plus.

My VPN works on my Chromecast. Side loading is easy. Only downside is it on 4 gig. It can be expanded though.

Continue watching feature! I noticed that too. Small bug but definitely worth noting. Hopefully they'll update it. And yes, it did not work the way I thought it would, especially for Disney+. When you click on it, it would open the app instead of taking you right to the movie/show where you left off like it's supposed to. Another con, so far Disney+ and Vudu app doesn't support Atmos. Again hopefully they'll update that as well. Lastly, I subscribe to KZbin TV, I love the Live TV tab up top how easily you access the channel guide seamlessly without actually going into the app. However, once you click on a channel, instead of still using the new interface, now you're in the KZbin TV app anyway. It's almost as if Google attempted to integrate the new UI but then stopped halfway. Was hoping for KZbin TV to be a unique experience with this device, which in some ways it is because you can access the guide prior to actually going into the app as I said, but ultimately you'll eventually go into the app anyway.

Nice review as always.. I have an old Chromecast and firetv I carry around for hotel visits. My question is.. if the hotel WiFi has an annoying "welcome to hotel blah click login" screens historically Chromecast was dead in the water but FireTV you could use the remote to click login.. Can this Chromecast finally do the same ? If so I only need carry 1 stick with me in my bag which would be a bonus.

Yes! you need a browser like Puffin or Bro TV but you can access the hotel's login page from this.

Hi Mike, I really like your videos. I have recently bought this and the only problem I am facing is using the vpn app with this. It has support for all the major vpn apps like, ExpressVPN, Nord and Surfshark. Surfshark has the best interface among these, but with this device it’s not much of a deal for using against Netflix or Prime Videos ☹️
