The sword is called a "Scottish Claymore" and is a two handed greatsword. The reason it's in the game was because a British soldier named Jack Churchill in ww2 was one of the last men to use a long bow and greatsword in combat during a time of conflict. He chose to use the bow and sword over a fire arm for the sake of challenge. Look him up. He was a real Rambo without the m60.

Alright, here’s the deal: The Claymore as a sword was invented in the 12th century, it was the Scots version of a Longsword (the first widely used two-handed sword in Europe) at the time, and they made it longer, and heavier, making it a beastly cutting weapon. The name, when translated from Scottish Gaelic, translates to “Big Sword.” This eventually evolved into the 16th century version, with the upswept, quatrefoil guard we see in the game. What many people don’t know is that there is a another Scottish sword called a Claymore, it’s the 18th centuries Scottish Basket Hilt Broadsword. This was a one handed weapon that was a broad, double-edged and heavy sword compared to the more widely used military sabers of the time, think of it as the Scottish version of a military saber, fulfilled the same purpose. It was put into the game because of Mad Jack Churchill, who went into battle wielding a Claymore. However, the Claymore he went into battle with was the 18th century Claymore and NOT the two-handed sword we see in game. This is a common misconception. Another misconception about the Claymore is that it was the largest sword ever used. This is false, the largest sword used on the battlefield we’re 6 ft. tall Zweihanders, Spadones, and Montantes. The two-handed Claymore maxes out around 5.5 ft. While Zweihanders weren’t common, they were used to break up pike formations, most famously by the Landsknect mercenaries.
