kind of, but i still think that the rear end is way too round and it could definitely take some more lines to help with the design. I've got the expression, that they overdid their philosophy of reducing the lines on the rear end.

Nope ! I went to see one in the flesh at the weekend and was truly disappointed. I've owned 219 and 218 models and I have to say that this new CLS feels down market, vulgar and cramped. Oh, and the build quality has gone down a couple of notches as well. Such a shame.

E400 in my opinion is better than then cls 400 because the E400 gives out more power because of the V6 but instead the cls 400 is just a inline 6 and just approximately 2 grand less than the E400.

Great review, as always. Living with the CLS it does have some annoying kinks- compared to the previous generation- in cold weather, with the 20inch alloys the 4matic system has a horrible habit of crabbing/juddering at low speeds. The foot rest is so thin it’s impossible to rest your left foot comfortably. I also find the tech a little slow to respond. Picking out semantics on an overall beautiful and well put together car

The new A7 looks to have an interior that is about 5 years more modern, the CLS interior appears similar to the S class we first saw in 2013. It's still very nice, but no longer cutting edge.

No, the rear end is a disaster. As a Mercedes fan, it's massively disappointing. The angle, the tail lights, the small ass trunk opening, they all suck. And the CLS53 is no better. Fake, circular exhaust (fake as in those circular tips are not part of the mufflers, they're just stuck on there and the mufflers blow through them), and it doesn't even say "AMG" on the tips. They killed the CLS, especially since it's not getting a CLS63 model. They could've at least bumped the horsepower to 469HP and called the car CLS55 rather than CLS53, and have it compete with the 443HP BMW 650i, but no, they stuck with 429HP and called it the CLS53. The CLS is dead.

Exactly, this new Merc design language is the reason why I abandoned the brand that I loved for 7 years and pre-ordered the new A7. I had a feeling Audi with their A6 and A7 is gonna dominate the luxury car industry in the next a few years, knocking Mercedes out of the throne.

YX Yang Exactly. I'm not a huge Audi fan exception of R8/R10 and the S line but Mercedes has fell on their heads. How do you kill one of your best selling lines and sterilize it at that? Then to boot, MB is not even in the top 5 of reliable cars anymore, matter of fact they are out of the top 10. Porsche, BMW and Hyundai (WOW What?) are in some of the top spots. My 09 Designo CLS63 is staying with a while longer.

That's not gonna happen. The problem with VAG is that they cheap out on their cars and they don't last. They're great for the first time buyer or leaser, but after 5 years the cars start having issues and after 10 they start falling apart. That's not a way to build a reputation. On top of that, as he said in the video, Mercedes has the best interior bar none, and that's where you spend all of your time so the cars will keep selling.

I love the shark nose design, love the rear end, and the reduction to minimalist body lines and creases. Its the perfect balance of conservative sedan/coupe, without being too stodgy, and without being too much the sport coupe' Just a nice balance, and I would take it anywhere. Yes, I know it's pretty body built on an E-class platform, but it is much sexier. I like the AMG variant, but I do wish that it had a full roof panoramic glass panel. But that's not a deal breaker for me. I'd like the CLS-53 in-line 6. This is a huge improvement over the past CLS versions, and frankly I think Mercedes is hitting home-runs in the design department in recent years. The interiors, are my favorites against its nearest competitors.

I have a 2014 CLS 550 and you can't beat the exterior looks of it. I'm disappointed in the new design for the 2019 model. However, when it's time to upgrade I will probably go with the new model.

I just bought last month a 2013 CLS because I wanted a specific color, a Designo interior, and I love the specific design of the 12-15. I finally found the exact car with only 4K miles on the clock. I can afford to buy any car I want but the new CLS has lost it distinction. I know the technology is better on the newer cars but at what point do you have to say enough and actually buy a car for its beauty. This was my reasoning for buying a used car CLS vs a new one. I personally find the newer styling just ordinary and plain ugly.

Your reviews are very good, in particular this one. I owned the previous CLS and whilst good the new version is many steps up so it seems. I think they have watered the styling down somewhat but will reserve judgement until I visit Hughes and have a word Raj & Andy at Beaconsfield. Good bunch of guys!

Never liked the first gen CLS, bought a CLK instead around that time (now of course called the E coupe). 2nd gen CLS a bit nicer but still, didn't appeal much to me. This new one now, has that understated Merc elegance that I love, like the old SEC and the SL coupe of the 80's. I'm visiting the showroom soon to see this car.

I have to say this. Mercedes is and has ruined some of the best lines they had. The CLS has been made sterile, 63 level is gone. The quality of the interiors, and the fit and finish Mercedes was known for is gone. What are these guys thinking about? Nice review and video, but I am not feeling this new CLS.

Just flipped my 2014 CLS 550, loved that car, and the 550 motor was unreal, now you start with a straight 6 hybrid, not for me, and gonna be a big number AMG , new body, I love this body, and car, however I ordered a 2018 E 43 AMG, cause the body is 2 yrs old, and leases better, maybe next time, but I love the E43

Liked the upload but if i can make a suggestion. I understand why you look at the camera from time to time when your driving. But for me personally id prefer it if you just drove keeping our eyes on the road. I think you’d still make an excellent video but you’d also be safer.

The rear end of the CLS450 was an immediate I HATE IT but it's growing on me. I'm about to trade my 2017 CLS550 for a 2020 CLS450 bc that twin turbo engine in the 550s have problems. And before I had ANY I'm getting rid of it. I recently had a coolant leak. And that's a domino effect to engine failure. I fixed the coolant hose and I'm about to trade!

I never thought too deep about the back design. I just thought it was the more up to date design mercedes was leaning toward. Especially since the gle coupe and cla have the same back design. Not bad looking in my opinion. Im not THAT much into cars or know every single spec but the cla seems like a smaller version of the cls and WAYYY cheaper. The cls is sexy but if it came down to it, id get the cla to save thousands.

Sorry, Dude. I love my 2014 E550. I think it's one of the best blends of luxury and sport Merc has put out recently. But, I think it was the last non AMG vehicle that really maintained that balance. I think MB as entered into a bland period that really lacks excitement with the exception of the GT R. It may have been the color that contributed to my dislike of the rear end. I've always been an ass man, but this just doesn't do it for me...again, SORRY! I'm sure from a technological standpoint it's all that and a bag of chips, but I won't be trading in on this one. Thanks for the very thoughtful, comprehensive and unbiased review.

I love it, but would like to see the b pillar go away, and would like extended glass top for the rear passengers, and not just over the front seats. Bring back the availability of the "bengal red" leather. (We live with it in an SLK and love it. it wears well with time) Overall I love the aggressive front, the narrow "angry" eyes look of the headlamps, and I like the clean and simple rear end. Mercedes has continued in a heavier more ornate look, and its time for this slim knife edge modernist look. Classic muscular-look Mercedes fans may not like it but it's "eye candy" to me. The double flat screen front gauges are nice, I miss the triple stalk on the steering column, and not sure I want the touch pad on the steering wheel. Time will tell on that. I'm old-school, and still prefer the command wheel at my right hand, and a four button with center select combination on the left and right arms of the steering wheel. It's precise, and doesn't require fine dexterity to manage when my focus is on the road. But this goes across the boards in all the new mercedes lineup. During my 30s and 40s the Mercedes looked like an "old man's car" but in the last few years they've managed to blend the classic and the modern in a way that is not at all displeasing. I love all the GT variants, and the big S-class sedans still maintain their presence, aloof from all other mere mortals. Yes, you could say that I like them all, from "A to S" and everywhere in-between. These are wonderful years for Mercedes.
