This is the new Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 and everything you want to know about it! From a full in-depth walkaround to heading out on the roads near Barcelona in the latest car from AMG. The global launch event for the new CLS was hosted by Mercedes near to Barcelona, Spain with perfect weather to spend some time with the luxury 4 door coupe and discover its capabilities. First is an exploration of the car, seeing the ins and outs. Then it's a short drive around the local roads to experience it in that environment before returning to a much more detailed look at the interior controls, displays and luxury features.

@hharyych - I cant agree with you on that headlight comment - In fact till these latest generations the MB headlamps had a rather crunky shape and I found it awful, was not cool as BMW´s headlamps or neither clear and clean as AUDI´s - This new headlamp shape is clean and dynamic and does not fuzz around trying to do more than it should - I think its about be base shape that MB has come with for along time. But styling is difficult to discuss.

If I have to give it an AMG score it will be 5/10. It only has 50 % AMG DNA. The exhaust tips and tail and head lights did not really follow the AMG tradition in my humble opinion. Still it's a lovely car. Nice video Shmee ! Seamless presentation. You are a great auto critic

I read somewhere that only sometimes you do a second take..amazing. Have to give you mayor props for the fluent, detailed, on point delivery of the many (many!!) details pertaining to the cars you review - you definitely have a huge talent to get this info across in such fluent and interesting manner. In that regard I don't think you have any true competition...(hence your 1.1 mln subs). Can't wait to hear about all the problems this new powertrain gives. I was excited to hear MB was returning to using I6 motors but of course they had to reinvent the wheel. The I6 motor along with the electric motors AND the turbo does sound brilliant in theory and the R&D must have been insane but I sure hope it can be a reliable package for many many miles.

AMG Styling, performance and the interior are on point! I just love it. I had the privilege of reviewing it on my channel and there's so much of this car that's underrated. Some say it is not a true AMG, but, I think it is.

The whole design of the car from the outside and inside is top notch. Only downside to the 3rd Gen CLS models is it doesn’t have the 63 AMG’s anymore which means you won’t get 550-577 HP. Now it’s maximum HP is 430

This has the M256 engine I am so fond of. 48V electrical system, integrated starter motor (responsible for the "weird" startup, electric water pump, direct drive aircon compressor as well as an eTurbo (intake e-booster)

SNUIF It's not a real AMG. Every real AMG has that badge on its engine. It's basically an AMG-lite, pitched to compete with the M performance cars with more than one number after the M (like M140i) but not true M and the Audi S series (but not RS).

The 4 cylinder Turbo in the A/CLA/GLA 45 is also a „One Man One Engine“ badge. But yeah this is not a real amg. More like the 450/43 models a Line between the standard and the „real“ amg models.

I recently discussed this with Mercedes people, and they were claiming that the cls is one of the worst selling cars, that’s why they made some changes with engine and trim, hopefully with prices too, bc if this car would have reasonable price, I might get one.

Tired of Benz throwing AMG badges on everything. AMGs are *V8 minimum*, *Hand built*, and made in *Affalterbach*. These 43 and 53's fulfill none of those, but still wear the badge. Pretty soon, every Benz model will be badged AMG...

This car isn't built by AMG, Mercedes just borrowed some styling and placed it on a CLS450 equivalent. Its just like the C43s where the engine isn't actually hand built.

Its not a handmade engine, these engines are mass produced for the 43/53 lines. only the 63 are the hand built ones as well as the 45's. This is a basically just the base cls with a tweaked engine. It's not meant to be a full fledged AMG model, its a in-between. Just wait for the AMG GT4 ;)

Really disappointed with the look of this third gen. (aside from the rear diffuser/exhaust, which I am very fond of). Also, the hybrid, straight-6 powertrain leaves a lot to be desired, despite it being an interesting choice. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds is not impressive for a $100k+ AMG car.

Is the engine actually build by AMG? Since for me it sounds more like the 43AMG Tag... The 43 wasnt build by AMG. Mercedes just took the AMG bodykit, suspension and some little motor tune, to put an AMG Tag onto their 400 labeled cars. Since there is no label on the engine of this car i dont think this is a true amg. No handcrafted Engine = not an AMG... 45, 63 and 65 are the only true AMGs at this point... :/

They can call it whatever they want, this is clearly NOT an AMG! All upcoming 53, 43 and even 35 AMG are fully trash, and have nothing to do with the principles why the AMG brand got its reputation. A true AMG is a 63 or 65 (natural aspirated or even turbo charged) with a 5 to 7 liter V8 or V12, in a classy, edged and fake-elements-free Mercedes, which consumes 20l+ petrol and costs you at least 100k.

@plastar99 - Yeah, and a "real" locomotive burns coal. But still, the electrified TGV goes up to 600 km/h and fucks this coal-burner in each situation. I bet, the CLS53 has no wheelspin, while each older E63 AMG burns off its wheels for at least 2 seconds, before it starts. Why not driving an AMG with 10 liters only? And be cool: The CLS53 will cost over 100.000.

in my opinion, there is no Mercedes turbocharged V8 that's ever going to scream like an I6, or feel smoother than an Inline 6. It's definitely a cool direction for MB. It's been nearly 20 years since they've had an I-6 in production, but it's absolutely a staple for them. The I-6 has been used by them since the late 20s, and this revival could be viewed as a tribute to many past AMG models that utilized such an engine.
