I own the CMMG Banshee 10mm MK10 and the Tactical Edge RD-10 10mm pistol. 5 trips to the firing range and 500 rounds later, here are the observations (been using Sellier & Bennott and SigSauer 180 grain FMJ): -The CMMG radial blowback system dramatically decreases the recoil and is very evident when compared to the RD-10. RD-10 recoil is so prominent that after several hundred rounds, I had to wear my tactical glove to reduce numbness that was developing in my index finger -The CMMG MK10 has fired over 500 rounds with no malfunctions and no cleaning to date. The LRBHO on the MK10 has not malfunctioned to date. -The RD-10's LRBHO started malfunctioning within the first 2 magazines. Was never able to get the LRBHO to work reliably so I removed the mechanism. -Within the first 50 rounds, the RD-10 starting severing the empty casings in half, causing additional malfunctions when half of the casings were not extracted from the breach. My gunsmith tested heavier buffers until we found one that stopped the severing of the empty casings ($75 buffer & $125 of labor). -About 100 rounds into the RD-10, the bolt carrier assembly failed (extractor stripped). Replaced it with a KAK Industries 40-S&W-10-MM-BCG ($145.00 later) -RD-10 now fires reliably with the KAK bolt carrier assembly and heavier buffer. All in for the RD-10 (purchase price/tax, shipping and replacement parts), over $2,150.00 -All in with the CMMG Banshee MK10: $1,645.00 with taxes, local pickup at RifleGear. -CMMG MK10 came with one 30 round mag, Glock compatible. RD-10 came with two 15 round Glock mags. Other observation: RD-10 is noticeably heavier with the balance point noticeably forward of the mag well. RD10 leverages side charging handle while the MK10 uses classic AR style charging handle. Advantage goes to the CMMG MK10

What he said was true. A lot of gun ranges don't allow centerfire rifles. My local gun range won't allow a standard AR-15, so I ended up buying the CMMG .22 LR conversion bolt carrier. Thing works flawlessly in my AR and now I can shoot it at my local range, and for a fraction of the cost as a bonus. I'm a huge CMMG fan now, and I plan on getting the 9mm ARC kit for my AR, but with the Resolute upper. And when I'm 21, I'm definitely getting the Banshee.

I watched quite a few videos with the Banshees (this is my first in 10mm though) and the failure to lock issue seems to go away after a break-in period. I think the average was 900 to 1000 rounds or so. That said, my view on PCCs is that if you want a rifle, get a rifle. And if you want to shoot at rifle distances, get a rifle. But if you want a shoulderable firearm in your favorite pistol self defense calibers and intend to use it in the SAME situations you would your pistol, then PCCs are awesome. They also allow people who may be smaller or have issues shooting a pistol, to shoot the same ammo with the same velocities the pistol ammo was INTENDED to be used at (which is my biggest problem with a lot of SBRs, they reduce the velocities below what is ideal for rile rounds)m and again, this is NOT an issue when using PCCs. But again, they are what they are, and NOT what they are not. And I find the biggest disconnect with some people is the not keeping this in mind.... "It looks like an SBR so it must BE an SBR!".... and they are disappointed. And when they use their pistol ammo thinking it is RIFLE AMMO, again, they are disappointed. No..... So me? I love them... for what they ARE. :) Cheers!

Mac, another great video! I finally bought the gun partially based on your great review. However I have a serious issue which I can’t find any YT gun channel which addresses it. The problem I have on my hands with the 10mm CMMG is that most, yes most, of my cases coming out are bulged. Some a VERY bugled. So much so that there is no way I am gonna reload them to the specs that a 10mm should be reloaded at. The case web deflection from spec is just way too much for me to consider it safe for reloading. CMMG had danced around my problem with excuses such as “change the ammo used. Change the buffer and spring. AND lastly was that I was possibly using old worn out cases” BUT that is incorrect as I am speaking of BRAND new factory ammo. I have used factory ammo all the way from weak federal white box to Underwood and Buffalo Bore. The heavier loads tend to bulge more, but probably 4 of 5 of any factory ammo bulges. I have even had maybe a dozen out of approx. 300-400 rounds that actually split the case. I finally get a “Lawyered up” letter from CMMG that was pages long and full of lawyer speak basically claiming that due to a fully supported chamber, that “an occasional round” would likely happen! This unsupported chamber was not a fact I was aware of prior otherwise I would surely have passed on it as there is plenty of 10mm guns out there with a fully supported chamber which a few I already own. These guns DO NOT cause bulged cases. The CMMG is the only 10mm I own that produces this problem. The customer service manager has tried to talk me into thinking the bulged cases are very minor and not to worry about it, BUT will not state that in writing on his emails. When asked what the solution was after I got the LAWYERED UP letter, I then received no further reply. Despite 3 inquires afterwards , they still have refused to answer my question on what the solution is….., very disappointing considering the gun cost something like what, $1200-$1500 or more…. I would have expected SO MUCH More than that from a company with the reputation of CMMG. In closing, what’s been your experience with this particular problem? And if you have seen this, what’s your confidence level using cases that are severely bulged (visible from 3 feet away….) regarding reloading these rounds to full power or even moderate power loads? ANY feedback at all would be sincerely appreciated. Keep up your great work! Cheers, Chad.

The trick with the cotter pin is usually one leg is straight and one is bent down a little. Insert the pin with the bent leg down. Then with the rear of the carrier facing you, use a small screw driver/punch/allen key in the gap on the right side between the firing pin and carrier to pry the bent leg up while putting pressure on the pin...and it goes right in. You are essentially squeezing the two legs together so they fit into the hole on the other side of the carrier. Saw the guy on Small Arms Solutions do that and it was a revelation

@alan wake OOBs do not occur on ARs. It is fundamentally impossible without a broken firing pin protruding from the bolt face. Most high order kaBooms are the result of the ammunition being flawed. Two possible causes; the tension that held the bullet in the neck was insufficient and as the round chambered the bullet was shoved further back into the powder compressing the load or a double load of the wrong powder (usually pistol powder) created a catastrophically overpressure event. What matters most is if the failure followed the engineered cascade path.

10 is awesome but only full power loads, as a reloader I can tell you off the shelf ammo is water downed, full power is divine!

even underwood and buffalo bore? those 2 are known for loading their ammo hot

Steven yes there is even more, in my 10mm delta elite Im sending a 180 grain pill @ 1531 fps! The power is there and thats shot over chrono results, Ive found more so then not the data on box is bullshit to what you really get.

40 cal is a great , it’s all marketing today , just like the 6.5 creedmoor , it’s also a purpose BULLET. Great 👍 video

Exactly. I've had a .40 cal since the mid 90's and I have no desire to abandon the caliber. I like 9mm, nothing against it, but the only reason 9's are so popular today is the marketing hype. Frankly, I'm getting bored with the endless supply of so called "new" 9mm pistols. Give the .40 the love it deserves, it's still a great round.

Because the FBI made 9nm cool again and you just got to be leet like the lawman !!!! marketing....
@HickLif35 жыл бұрын
@@richb.4374 I kind of agree with you. 40 is a great round but I carry a primarily 9 because of capacity, 2 extra rounds is 2 extra rounds that might save my life. Plus modern bullets perform pretty similarly from 9 to 45. Recoil control and the speed to get another accurate shot off is a factor also. If I could get a 17rd (19 with basepads) 380 I would but they just don't make them. The beretta 84 is 13 rds but it's still less than the 20 I get in my p320 xcarry with +2 base pads and one in the chamber. Everyone has their preferences though and everything is a tradeoff

Why do some companies load 10mm to .40s&w pressure? It seems odd that full power ammo is almost a niche product. Is it some kind of safety thing?

You are literally the only person I’ve ever heard complain about the cotter pin. It’s super simple to use and does its job. as much as you handle ARs, how don’t you know how to use one by now?

Paul Harrell has an excellent video about having handgun and carbine with the same ammunition, both in scenarios of personal defense, hunting, and you can apply to LE too

Angelo Bartolomeu I don't have any 9mm carbines but I do often use a 1894 in 357 paired with either a model 19 or a security six in 357 in the woods. Great hunting combo here in Indiana. The revolver is only ever for dogs snakes or meth heads but the rifle can be used on small game like rabbits and squirrel with some 38spl fmj or with some good hot 357 drop deer or coyotes no problem. Works great on hogs too but we don't have those in my neck of the woods yet.

I wonder if handgun-carbine pairings make more sense with a revolver-lever action long arm than with semiautomatics. It's easier to use the same ammunition when neither gun depends on the force of firing to work.
@Libertarian_Neighbor5 жыл бұрын
Greg Camp Exactly. Also, this “same ammo” concept was only relevant when you were 10 days ride via horseback from the next ammo vendor who may or may not have the caliber you need. So before automobiles.

@05:54 This is exactly why I got rid of my 10mm glock. It's not worth all the extra money for that ammo. Standard 10mm Federal ammo should come out at 1,150 as a baseline out of a 3 inch barrel for the cheap stuff. Federal 10mm should be at 1200 fps. Premium ammo like double-tap and underwood give you premium performance at a dollar+ per round. Anyway, rant over.

I'd be more interested if it where a 16in carbine. Still a fan of CMMG and I like that they always try to innovate.
@TheDiameter2 жыл бұрын
Why? Even extremely hot 10mm gets basically nothing past 14” and realistically sees exponentially decreasing returns on anything over 12”

@@TheDiameter OK 12inches it is then. I just want more than 8in. O want a 10mm carbine not an AR pistol
