Just like with the Kavanaugh hearings, it's a way for Democrats to grandstand and look tough and thoughtful... thing is, it rarely if ever actually means anything. The only person from such events that actually stood office was Harris, and she only got the job because of demographic labels, not by how people felt she acted in hearings. Basically, the hearings, and the bravado of the people doing the questioning, is only useful to act as a bellwether for what Democrats have Presidential ambitions; in that regard, clearly Warren thinks she still has a shot, even though this'd be at least the third time she tried.
