I grew up in the Midwest and remember listening to songs like this on AM WLS and WCFL from Chicago late at night when the signals were more powerful. I listened on one of those small leather cased transistor radios. I knew the jingles the stations played to advertise their call letters. So there is a lot of nostalgia for those days and yes I admit that part of that was because I was young then.

If you were a teenager in the middle 1960's, you remember the New Colony Six. This song reminds me of a Girl named Donna Plestina. We met senior year in high school and became good friends and I grew to like her a lot. I wanted to ask her to the senior prom but couldn't work up the nerve. I landed up not going and later found out neither did she because no one asked her! I could have died knowing that. At graduation we gave each other a hug and kiss, and wished one another well. That's the last time I saw Donna. She didn't come to the 10 year reunion in 1979. I never forgot about her but hearing this song brings back those memories of her.

I lost having someone who was beautiful in heart and mind as well as physical beauty. I too was afraid to say Can I get to know you and love you. But thank Jesus, that He brought me the perfect wife for me thirty years later at my age of 44 to bless me for 23+ years. Last week she went home to Heaven. I look forward to seeing her very soon as my best friend again. Remember, no one is married in Heaven. But don't be disheartened, you will really feel and experience perfect love with everyone in Heaven, especially God. There is one prerequisite to heaven. You have to love God and His Son, Jesus. And accept the free gift of Salvation for your sinfulness(of not always loving everyone) by trusting Jesus and following Him in faith. If you think you lack faith, you can easily get faith by reading God's Bible He has given us. Going to a Bible believing church too with Godly people sharing themselves with you too will work. Ask Jesus right now to forgive and accept you even with your past sins and He forgive all of them. You must now though surrender every sinful thought to God. And try to sin no more.

Assassinations of leaders, Civil Rights, Vietnam, etc. The very day i graduated from high school was the day of Bobby Kennedy's funeral train procession. Surreal doesn't begin to explain the feelings i had that day. And we're all still here almost 6 decades later. You gotta hand it to Chicago for giving so much Airplay love to their own bands. A lot of songs that made it big regionally in Chicago, A lot of them baffle me as to how & why they weren’t huge hits Nationally. This song and “I Wanna Meet You” by The Cryan Shames I think should have sold better nationally. Also keep in mind Chicago never had their own Wrecking Crew so everything these Chicago bands did back in those days was played by the band members. I mean they had R&B/Soul Session Cats but they wouldn’t have been good fits for records like this so it was up to the guys in these bands to provide the instrumentation for their records.
@thomassmith87212 жыл бұрын
Sam L Williams, hello I gotta hand it to you! Your comment was great. Chicago didn't have the Wrecking Crew. They were the best of the best studio musicians ever assembled. Chicago radio loved Cryan" Shames, Shadows of Knight, The Buckinghams, Ides of March, and, of course, the NC6. They were a pack. Yeah, for sure, WLS and CFL bolstered their popularity. They were all well known names around Chicagoland because of the radio attention they received. I've had the pleasure of meeting Ronnie Rice of NC6. I was lucky to have seen all these bands back in the day. I also remember seeing The American Breed around town. They had a few hits, "Bend Me, Shape Me" and "Step Out of Your Mind" Another band was Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah. Their local/regional hit was "Lake Shore Drive" There were many more locally known underground garage bands. The Windy City was a rockin" town during the 60s. WLS and WCFL were a big part of the scene. My kind of town, Chicago is. ✌️
