Native Tampon here.... yes I was born here. Things are so out of control that if you make 100k a year, expect to spend 50%+ of your take home pay for a studio apartment. Luckily I paid off my home 20 years ago. 2000 square ft with one acre lot on a deep water canal with gulf access was under 100k. Neighbors house sold last year for 3.2 million bucks. What are these people doing to even afford a 450k median priced house? I dropped my insurance the day I paid off my mortgage. I put that premium in the bank instead of paying the insurance companies. I now have enough saved to rebuild my home twice in cash. Just get a general liability policy in case the mailman trips on your property.

I would self insure if I wasn't in a townhouse with HOA🥲

I am a Tampa native and I would say that the cost of living has at least tripled in the last 20 years. It has gotten so expensive, that I am leaving my beloved city and moving to the Phillipines.

Man that sucks!!! But I totally get it. I have a friend in the Phillipines right now and loves it!

Lived, grew up and purchased my first residence in Polk county. Moved to hillsborough county eight years ago. This county along with Tampa a so expensive. The property taxes in this county are double than what I previously paid.

Home prices went up throughout most of the country not just here in FL. Our insurances and utilities are climbing at a crazy rate. We are in a world wide recession, with inflation, and min. wage doubling - all costs will increase and will cont. since we are still working on increasing our wages here in FL. This lowers the middle class who has been working so hard for a better quality of life. I have moved up the ladder, but my quality of life surely is no longer reflecting this. So glad you are talking about insurances as it will shock new comers and is driving owners out. In Pasco we are only accessed around 50%, so there is so much room for tax hikes, which is also a financial risk, homestead slows it down and make you not want to seel, because your next home will be thousands more in taxes. If you are moving to the state, understand homestead, HOAs, and CDDs, historic claims on homes.

Just to give you an idea, I got priced out of the apartment complex I used to live in near Hyde Park Village. I feel like you have to have a job with commercial domicile in New York or California just to stay afloat there now.

I agree...its nuts and needs to be addressed. HOW are people to live here now????

The title alone brakes my heart we are being evicted from our homes. Sadly one day I won’t be able to afford to live in Florida any more

If a single person “needs” $95k to live comfortably, he is doing something wrong. Unless you have massive debt, how can you not live on a $95k salary?

I make 19K a month, house paid off, no car debt and it still feels expensive here.

I wanna know how you would build equity in a condo when prices are dropping because it is so much cheaper to rent now than to buy 🤣🤣🤣

Not in Tampa...I bought my condo for $120K in 2017 and it appraised for $245K in 2023. Rents are still TOO high IMO

"Get a condo" you are insane if you wanna get a Condo, Especially after seeing the assessments some people are getting...
@TampaLivingwithEm2 ай бұрын
I am not telling EVERYONE to get a condo. But it is best for some people and not all condos have assessments. that's why we ask for their yearly budget to see what could be coming ;)

60K is not much. It’s kinda average.
@TampaLivingwithEm2 ай бұрын
$40K used to be the median and now it just keeps going up and up! The issue is TAMPA needs to raise their hourly rates and salaries to match the rest of the nation with the same cost of living....
@Krnesbitt5 ай бұрын
Tampa does NOT need rent control. It will only disincentivize the building of new apartments. That is not what you want.
@Bridging_the_Political_Divide19 сағат бұрын
Agreed. Rentals here in LA are hella expensive, but it's the market, supply & demand. It may hurt, but you have to let the free market play out. You got it. 💯
