@@Webbster77 Ah, yes. It just came back in a moment of clarity. 2.5mm has a resistance per metre of 7.41mΩ and a ring shouldn't serve a floor area greater than 100m square (Appendix 15), so 7.41mΩ x 100m = 0.74Ω. If it's higher, the cable route is probably too long for the design. As for starting a channel, happy to chat sometime!

I'm surprised people bother with downlights nowadays. I suppose if it was a kitchen or something they might be nice to have a bright light. But don't they seem such a faff compared to just a couple of ceiling roses or something?. In a living room you'd only want a lamp and the TV on at night surely anyway, not have it lit up like an operating theatre! Good vid as always. :)
@dsesuk3 жыл бұрын
Personally, I wouldn't go out of my way to fit them anywhere it would be a faff. They were the in-thing in the 1990s into the 2000s, but I see them as being practical for corridors, kitchens and bathrooms rather then lounges or bedrooms.

Classic😂😂. Nice to see another company doing a back plate, crabtree do one but don't think it has the fire seal. That light would have been ok on a breaker, but for that stupid reg for domestic lights need to be RCD protected, yet you could install a cooker circuit, heater circuit etc and they could go on breakers if the relevent regs are adhered to. I started using the challenger flood lights from cities, not had any issues plus they have a 5 year warranty, but most led stuff is crap, but when people are sold it, they are told it will last forever, that needs to stop.

You were fortunate that the circuit conductors were long enough to reach the openings in the back ! What I would like to see is something like a miniture DIN rail at the top of the unit with contact blocks that can be slid to the left / right / center for the short conductors wherever they have to enter from. I dissagree about puting the outside light onto the same breaker as the inside lights, I thought you would have known better than to do that since in your videos when you get nuisance tripping you imediatly suspect and test the outside stuff ! The initial cost of a separate outside trip is minimal and will save hours of testing for someone in the future !
@dsesuk3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the point about the outside light Steve, but as a wholly new luminaire installed on the immediate outside wall using a decent brand that we haven't yet experienced a single failure of, I think we were better to splice it into the lighting than lose a circuitway and dedicated RCBO to it.
