I have had a Duster for about 18 months, best car I have ever owned, is there a better 4x4 for the money?I like its looks, different to most SUV's and it drives well, much better than most reviewers will say. Absolutely nice ride. I order my first one next week, 150 hp automatic. The main reason for the 3 points in safety are caused by the lack of modern driving assistant systems. The car shares platform with Renault Clio and Nissan Juke and since we don't hear of crushed families in these cars in masses I think I can live with it. I drove one two days ago, I come from an narrow, expensive and dead empty 118 I bmw, with seat textile and door rubber fading after 20,000 km for twice the price. A stunning car in every corner, I will miss it, but two kids need more space now. And even with BMW background for ten years the Duster to me seems surprisingly good. It was faultless throughout, nothing squeaked or rattled from that ‘built to a price’ interior, nothing fell off😀 It was comfortable, relaxing on the motorway and very predictable on the road. I’ve owned expensive cars, middle priced cars and a few cheap ones. None were as ‘satisfying’ to own as the Duster. Yes, not sophisticated, not full of electronics but utterly brilliant and dependable. Actually, there was one fault. Main beam headlight bulb went on year 2. the thing that doesn't get a lot of coverage on these reviews is what that soft, overrated suspension means on country roads. I have had a Diesel Duster for 3 years now and will likely side-grade to an LPG version as it makes sense for me. I live in Cambridgeshire, where the roads are pitted and undulate wildly, especially in the fens; every car my wife and I have owned prior to the Duster has been through endless suspension struts and springs and has been horrible to drive on those roads. Most people wildly dodge around sunken road segments (or just give up and drive in the middle of the road) and cause huge hazards in the process. The duster suspension is able to deal with those conditions effectively and there is a certain irony when you consistently overtake performance cars that have drivers squealing in agony over the bumps. I've driven in other SUV style cars belonging to other people, and while they don't wallow so much in the corner, the setup still leaves you regretting the ride after the first few miles.
@lawrenceholden57162 жыл бұрын
In effect they are learning the lessons from 40 years ago when cars such as the Citroën 2cv and its derivatives such as the Dyane were designed as inexpensive functional cars to cope admirably with just such roads. The Duster seems a great value car and is the only new car I would consider if I decide to change from my 11 year old Mercedes C class in a couple of years. The only things I'd like which it doesn't seem to have is a sun roof and cd player as don't want to have to fiddle with a touch screen when driving or mess around with a phone to play music, hate tech in general and you should be able to have what you like if paying for it.

Did I see twin gas struts on the bonnet? Lots of far more expensive cars don't get that! The dip in the boot would be great for umbrellas and as for hard scratchy plastic, so that's like a new VW then!? Had a 2016 model for 3 years from new. I live in rural Ireland - rough country roads come as standard. Tyres get punctured fairly regularly and cars get a fair old shaking. Not in the Duster though. Pot holes no problem and absolutely no squeaks or rattles in that interior for the 65,000 km I covered in the 3 years. (Unlike a new Golf and a new Passat I’d owned with a really ‘solid’ interior) No scratches on the plastic either - it’s tough. Only issue in the whole time was one headlight bulb in year 3. Cheap to buy a bulb and I changed it myself in less than 2 minutes, just like we could all those years ago, It was a dependable friend of a car.

I live in a mountainous area with a lot of gear-changing due to climbs and turns but I've also done a 600km trip to Paris with 4 in the car and a full boot on the Motorway using cruise control at 132kph which it kept pretty well but obviously we are not talking a 130bhp or 150bhp . Auto wipers, auto lights, reverse sensors. The roof racks swivel and lock into cross position which is handy for surf boards and also the car has as much ground clearance as the duster as far as I could see. It actually handles rough roads really well as it's light.. More than you need really. I love the car. I think it looks good, seems well built. Got good power. The facelift seems to have a few useful improvements - but I'm not a fan of the black roof roof rails and mirrors. Also not a fan of the latest orange(?) colour of the car in this video - the previous desert sand metallic was much better suited. The "cheap feel" and "plastici interior" doensn't bother me, your buying a car for around 20.000 euro's. Don't expect too much. I love the interior design more than leather or any other fancy type. The design, the looks, the infotainment system, the led lights, trunk space, Airco, cruise control. I mean it has al the features you need. I'm sold.

Thank goodness for affordable and cheap and simple cars. You may not think of buying this particular vehicle or be interested in its existence, but in more recent times, its manufacturers such as Dacia that keep the bottom end of affordable cars down, and help prevent them escalating into the stratosphere. Decades ago, car manufacturers spend until amounts of money and effort in trying to both anticipate and listen to what car customers wanted. Sometimes they missed the mark, often times they had a hit. In recent times, the car market is mired in choice. But in that hurricane of models and makes, there's one thing that has become seemingly acceptable. They're all getting expensive. We're not simply talking about electric batteries costing more or the rise of material costs. Cars used to be a means to get around. They were useful, practical and were a often a mean for people and families to have a better quality of life by allowing freedom and access to many. But recently, they're status symbols parked on driveways to appease a sense of more is more. More lights, more gimmicks, more toys. Ask yourself this; if things like blind spsot cameras, big vapid interior screens and toys were stripped from tour car, would you be a worse driver for it? Dacia and brands like them may seem cheap and cheerful, but they serve a purpose also. They show that cars can be simple and cheap. When cheap cars sell in volumes, other makers get worried because they never know if it may signal a sudden shift in customer demands. These high end makers never be 100% sure if the bubble may burst as cost of living rises. Has the modern car now become less of a method of getting around and more of a luxury item again? Perhaps, but Dacia keeps others on their toes and reminds ordinary people that cars can be rugged, well made, simple and above all else, that they need not swallow 25% + of your monthly income to own. Scoff if you will, but customers can be fickle and tastes can change unexpectedly like the wind. You'll always get rich people buying big luxury SUVs, but as wallets get tighter and prices of other things in daily life increases, the market may one day shift very suddenly to makers such as Dacia and their non nonsense cars.

Hard plastics = hard wearing. We had kids and muddy everything in and out of ours and it never damaged anything. Soft touch stuff is fine if you're not going to use the car. If you want it to last and be easy to clean, nothing wrong with tough materials. For the record our other car is a 71 plate 5 series, so I understand the nice interiors thing. I just don't see the Duster as the same thing. It's a hard wearing vehicle to get out and use, and for that it's great. Like criticising a spade for not being leather trimmed and heated. Automatic emergency braking sometimes helps to prevent accidents BUT sometimes it will slam on brakes in the middle of intersection thinking you are driving directly into oncoming cars it gets spooked by sings mounted in the middle of curves or oncoming cars that barelly touch dividing line in curves and so on, I am glad Dacia does not put this system in Duster and still is a little bit oldschool compared to other manufacturers making car interiors into spaceships full touch screens for climate control, brightness settings, start-stop system turn off etc. I hope mine lasts at least 15years by that time we should be fueling ICE with hydrogen because the only the only batery powered vehicle that I am willing to buy is Tamiya Clodbuster.

Thanks for that good presentation with showing all its pros and conts. I ordered a new Duster in november 2021 and hopefully will get it soon. I have chosen the bi-fuel LPG version, because here in germany (where I'm living) the petrol prices are exploding due to the new CO2 taxes. this is really the kind of stuff that's missing in North America. Latin america has cars that just get you places without much fuss, but over here, everybody just has to have something better than their neighbour. Maybe it's a bit low on power, but, if stelantis brings it over, it might apeal to the few sensible buyers still around, just don't stick a FIAT badge on it.
@tg1w2 жыл бұрын
I think Dacia has nothing to do with Stelantis unfortunately as Renault is not part of the PSA group. Speaking of power though, the car is actually one of the lightest SUVs out there, so with the 1.3 TCe engine I have no issues doing overtakes or driving on the motorway; it's all adequate.

Bi fuel version ? I have the bi fuel Sandero Stepway and to be honest I bought a get you home tyre. Plus lpg is a good option and even in May 2022 lpg is about 75 to 80 p per litre. You get 40 mpg so less than the unleaded. The TCe 999 cc engine (used in the bi fuel) is the same as the one in the Clio. Safety? Most cars like this are absolutely fine, it's not a Ford, VW or Skoda but it's half the price. What's not to like? The Stepway is a ''mini duster'' and is effectively a super mini sized vehicle.

Tbh they did the Sandero dirty by pairing it with a rubbish CVT for the automatic version. Doubt it can make it up some city hills with that puddly amount of torque and the 0-60 taking 14 seconds with is criminal. That engine does it in around 10.5-11 seconds usually. They should’ve paired it with the dct. This duster makes up for those shortcomings but it’s a much bigger car than most need or look for.
