Army is one of my favourite episodes, because it's such a great ADHD representation. ADHD isn't an inability to pay attention; it's a struggle to regulate how much attention you give a task. When Jack is told to sit still but isn't given something else to do, he goes straight back to moving around. But when he's on sentry duty and he knows that a) it's a part of a game that he really likes, and b) Rusty is counting on him to be still, he finds it much easier to lay there and focus.

As the dad of a kiddo who struggles with ADHD (and who may be undiagnosed myself), Jack's episode is one of my favorites because it demonstrates both the struggles and incredible strengths of kids with those challenges, as well as low-key teaching how you can adapt activities to play to those strengths (combining activity with information, engaging hyperfocus, and providing lots of positive reinforcement to replace the negative self-talk feedback loop).

In Disney's defense, it's not them that decided that Dad Baby wasn't appropriate for preschoolers-- it's the overall content ratings in the FCC guidelines. This particular episode gets a Y7 rating, while the entire rest of the series is rated Y. In order for Disney to air this episode, they'd have to change the rating for the entire series to Y7. Since Disney Junior only airs Y-rated content, that means this episode isn't available on Disney Jr. or Disney+. It's not the evil Disney censors, it's the evil FCC. So if you're going to blame someone, that's who to blame. Also, although it only got uploaded to KZbin recently, it was available to buy as an individual episode in the US via Apple, Amazon, Google, etc., and is on the DVDs and an extra. So it's not outright banned, either. That being said, it is 100% the funniest episode in the show and I'm glad it's more widely available via KZbin now. :)

I teach kindergarten, and am watching this on a Sunday morning while I lesson plan for the week. Hello! I just wanted to say that I am so impressed, Jay, at the way you're using these episodes as a tool to reflect on your own parenting "practice". I do it too (Calypso is a QUEEN). Typically, I recommend parents keep their kids the hell off of screens, especially in early childhood - but there are two exceptions. One of these is Mister Rogers Neighborhood, because duh. The other is Bluey, because so many episodes are excellent social-emotional learning parables for both children and adults. I use it in my own classroom to start conversations with the kids when I start noticing behavioral trends that need to be addressed. By the way, I was also a wiggly little kid. For some of us, learning is easy, but school is hard. I'm happy to report that, these days, schools tend to be a lot kinder to kids like us (and, possibly, your son when he joins the "big kids" in elementary). Modern classrooms offer more options for seating, more opportunities for movement and brain breaks, and more hands-on experiences that get us away from our desks. Oh, and best practice these days is to explain the "why" - learning objectives - at the beginning of each learning activity. It's good to have a target to aim at, and really helps students who require a stated "why" before engaging, which is a behavior common among kids who are GT.

11:50 Condensed milk has more sugar than regular cow's milk, so aside being used in baking, it's pretty much considered a sweet treat to adults and kids in other countries, like Australia. But for adults, it can be used in coffee or tea, since it's sweetened milk, which is handy if you want to save on milk/cream and sugar. Plus it makes said coffees and teas really tasty. I've done this myself sometimes in my coffee and it's REALLY good! It gives the coffee a silky, smooth and creamy feeling when you drink it. Plus, condensed milk is an ingredient in Vietnamese iced coffee, so that's another reason to try it.
@kioku1193 ай бұрын
Also as people are saying I think Australia just realizes that kids see their parents get drunk. There's at least 3 other times it comes up later (one is more subtle. Someone was doing work on their house and the kids were drawing some of the things they were talking about including beers in the picture.)
