Never thought I'd be someone leaving a parasocial ass "you guys have saved my life" comment but here we are... I don't have a lot of family left, and none of them - or any of my friends - live within 10 hours of me. I'm completely alone, all I have is my dog. He's my reason for getting out of bed in the morning, I do everything for him, he's literally all I have. Recently he's been unwell even though he's usually healthy and not old. This weekend I rushed him to the emergency vet & they found a brain tumor. It totally destroyed me, since he's been sick I've been in complete massive depressive, nervous breakdown mode. I couldn't function, couldn't stop crying or having panic attacks. Nothing was able to pull me out of it. On Monday I knew I needed to do SOMETHING to try and get a grip and remembered you guys started this series. I don't know Bluey but I knew it was supposed to be good and very wholesome, and I know you guys always make me smile. So I started watching and honestly it is the first time in 3+ weeks that I laughed, hell, even smiled. I watch a few eps of this with you every morning now and just that little bit of serotonin, that few minutes of "things are good," has changed my entire day. I feel like I'm finally getting back on track with at least being able to take care of myself. Honestly I don't know how I could have done this without you guys. So thank you. But LORD, NONE OF YOU COULD HAVE WARNED ME ABOUT COPYCAT?!? MY GOD

With Barky-Boats, I remember in elementary school, there were times where there was a period for the older students in the same grade was given a kindergarten or first grade student, and they would have us read books to the kid or play with them. It was just part of the school week, like once every week

at my elementary school, we had pen pals in college and we went to meet them one time and mine gave me a little stuffed dog that i still have. it meant a lot to me cuz i was a depressed and anxious kid that was seen as too weird to hang out with.

I remember there being some programs like this when I was a kid but I don’t remember ever having an older buddy. I remember being the 10 year old helping to tutor a 1st grader in reading, though, and I think the relationship became similar. There’s a bluey podcast with Australian hosts (it’s called Gotta Be Done and also has many interviews with show creators and voice actors) and it sounded like they had various experiences with this in their childhood. Maybe it’s a more expected social thing there, where it would seem very normal to have an older buddy at school? Particularly since this school seems to be an alternate teaching style to what most kids go through, and they may have to adapt to a difference in school structure when they leave this school, it seems like a good idea to have older kids who can support the younger kids and help them prepare/manage expectations.
@Schu0086Ай бұрын
My real question is whether there is more than one class at Bluey’s school, because we only ever see Calypso and their classroom. But this suggests other classes who are preparing to go up to high school who may just have different time slots on the land? Or maybe there are different buildings for different grades?
@popcornhistory8344Ай бұрын
My son's school has the older kids do a lot of activities with the elementary school. Middle and high school are right next door so it's easy for the older kids to come over. The seniors even do a graduation parade so the littles (and their old teachers) get to see them in their caps and gowns.

In Australia we don't have middle school. For the most part Primary school is prep (age 5) to grade 6 (age 12). Highschool is year 7 (age 13) til year 12 (age 18) There are a few private schools that deviate from the formula.

They do, they're just usually an internal designation for administration and/or buildings/areas in a school campus. Satellite 7-9 campuses under an umbrella school name are rising, especially in areas where schools need to expand but space is limited or if two schools merge and reorganise their year level locations. Stand alone 7-9 aren't common at all, unless it's a specialist or gated entry school.

"Is the mountain also a part of the school?" Bluey's school is located in Glass House, which is next to a number of distinctive volcanic plugs. That's Mount Coonowrin, a big vertical spike about 1200ft high. In wider shots you can also see Mount Beerwah and Tibrogargan behind it.

Right! I am tired and have to be on alert in case my boy gets into trouble. I am awkward and sometimes blank out in the middle of conversations with other parents or I need to look at my phone as I was coordinating a meeting up but now feel like I am being rude when they came up and started telling me their life story and how they are struggling right now. I want to be polite but people are texting me with questions. Anyways… I do find parents are very accepting of each other at the end of the day as we all have been there. That has helped me a lot get over my social anxiety.

I believe it's supposed to be a Waldorf school. It's similar to Montessori in some ways, but different in others. Waldorf schools place a lot of emphasis on creative play and students' emotional well-being, but they get some criticism for their methods being based in spiritualism rather than science.
@laurashepherd2479Ай бұрын
It's a Waldorf Steiner school (usually just referred to as Steiner schools in Australia). Primary school is Prep-6. Bluey is grade 1 and her buddy is grade 6. There is only primary school and high school (7-12) in Australia. Bingo is still in kinder, so not at primary school yet.

Blueys school is a real school in Samson valley (just out of Brisbane) so the mountain is one of the glasshouse mountains, there's so many places in bluey that I can immediately recognize because they do such a great job with little details. I knew straight away bluey lives in redhill, the vet where they take the little bird was actually the "cat clinic" which is gone now but if you ever come to Australia we (your Brisbane community) could put together a list of all the shops and parks they go to which are real places!
@Baldwin-iv445Ай бұрын
Why would a school be built in that area? Just curious, because this is something I've been wondering about since I first watched Calypso.
@azzula729Ай бұрын
@Baldwin-iv445 people live out there but it's also only a 10-15 min drive to suburban Brisbane. So it's got the benefits of being out in nature while also being convenient. This school is a Waldorf school which takes a more holistic approach to education than the regular methods of teaching, hence the location.

Buddies are great, a Kindy kid is paired with a year 6. In NSW Primary school is K-6 ages 5-12ish and high (big) school is years 7-12 ages 12-18ish. Your Big buddy spends time with you on the first few kind of half days of school and have set class times to hang out with their little buddies. They are there to help the new students navigate the school, can help them navigate friendships and means the kindy kid knows someone when they start school so they can feel more confident. You meet them at like induction days the term before you start school. I remember being really excited to meet my little buddy because I had adored my big buddy as a little kid.

Being about 10-13 is ROUGH...i remember when i started high school and a mixture of nerves and hormones it was just like normal for me to throw up every day. Its not the best system. But yeh usually the little kids (about year 0 to 2) have year 7 buddies. They do some light school work, drawing, play games etc. It does get easier jay...people don't believe me when i say that im socially anxious. My son is also a massive social butterfly so he will talk to anyone about anything...like a more innocent jay from jay and silent bob. I dont know if thats a good thing...its just him and i wouldn't change him for anything but he feels the need to go parent someone elses baby if he feels the parents aren't doing a good enough job and I'm socially awkward...soo...yeh.
