At 220 bucks it’s a great reel. I’ve been fishing one for a while now cause my buddy works for Daiwa so I’ve had it for almost 3 months. I also have steez and zillions as well. My hands down favorite reel from Daiwa though is my zillion, for some reason it’s just amazing it does everything I need it to do. One of the smoothest reels ever made

A bit of correction on Daiwa's lineup changes (this comes straight from a Daiwa representative, so this is NOT just a theory): The new Tatula SV TW 100 is replacing the Tatula SV TW 103, while the old(er) Tatula 100 will stay. The new Tatula SV TW 150 is NOT replacing the old Tatula 150, so the new SV TW 150 is really just an upgraded option for the old 150. Hope this helps you guys make sense of the mess Daiwa has created in its lineup!

It's true, it's a shame that the 103 line is going extinct, it was the best quality-price series from Tatulas, $180 and you had almost everything you needed and improved, now you have to pay $200 or more.

I watch a lot of stuff from daiwa and a lot of their pro shops and I haven’t heard they are discontinuing the 2023 tatula 100. Also, the tatula sv tw 103 was 209 before this new tatula sv 100 came out. As long as it works like I expect it to I would happily pay the few bucks more for the sv boost.

Daiwa's braking system is definitely easier to use, and works a lot better in the wind and on lighter baits, than the SVS braking of Shimano. The reason I always went Shimano was because they tended to be smooth out of the box and stay mostly smooth. My old Tatula was a geary mess after a season. I need a new topwater reel, so I'll probably pick this up to try it out.

It's only $10 more than the outgoing SV103 lists at right now. It's more the apparent loss of teh $179 TW100 that creates the challenge on price, it seems they're replacing 3 reels (SV103, TW100 and TW150) with two new ones (SV100 and SV150)

Great video, and thanks for talking about the prices on the different models too. I have some Tatula's myself, and they are a very good reel, and I like them a lot but, It's too bad that Daiwa doesn't have a few more reals in the $140-180 dollar price range that have some good quality features. Not everyone wants to spend, or can spend $220- $750 for a Tatula or a Steez. Daiwa will still sell a lot of these reels because people will still buy them, but they might be forcing quite a few people to buy other brands as well. Lews came out with the LFS gen 3 and still kept it at $99. I would like to see you do a review on that reel if you can. Thanks again for the great content.

I been a shimano fan all the time and gotta say i really liked the tatula so much that got me a second one, have the 6.3 and the 8.1 gear rations.. cast great out the box but replaced the spool bearings with ceramic bearings and OMG !!!they are now my favorite reels cast way better than any of my other reels even my shimanos got curados calcuta and tranx also upgraded bearing. The design is very similar indeed but what i think makes a huge diference casting, is the level wind guide design how it opens up when you release the spool.

The majority of my reels are the japanese 2020 tatula sv and they have been my favorite. They all perform great and only get a "clunky" feeling with baits that require twitching, l think it's also from the play in the t-wing system like you pointed out. IMO the only downside with the old tatula's is the lack of pinion support, so i'm glad they put in that pinion bearing. Another downside for me is how ridiculously tiny the handles knobs are and swapping those out are another $40-$60. It'll be a great reel with that extra pinion support and upgraded spool but they need to stop using those tiny handles. If I were to get another reel though, I'd just go with the new shimano slx xt. The first slx xt is another favorite and fishes just as well at almost half the cost, it had the perfect profile for me, felt smooth and casted just as well as my tatula svs and came with the comfortable shaped knobs that I didn't have to switch out.

Both the older reels are now on clearance at TackleWarehouse. The Tatula100, Tatula150, Tatula200, and Tatula300 are all still being sold, with only the Tatula100 getting the refresh last year. So the new TatulaSV100 (2024) is replacing the older TatulaSV100 (2017) and not the Tatula100 (2023)

I think the old Tatula SV TW is being replaced by both the new Tatula SV 100 and SV TW 150. The new SV 100 holds the same amount of line as the old model and gets the boost spool. While the new SV TW 150 holds 30 more yards of line but retains a normal SV spool. Daiwa likes to add skews. I doubt these 2 new reels have anything to do with the regular Tatula 100 and 150 in any way. Something else would replace those for that price segment.

down side off tatula, like shimano, sparfts that run through the pinion dont handle heavy drag. bend and rub on the pinion, i dont buy any reel with that design anymore. shitmano now craptula
