@@emilyannfrancesmay3919 There were many times In past episodes I hated what Angelique did for her own selfish reasons but this is one of many more times that she has amazed me by putting down Laura. I also like Diana Millay as a actress. These 2 could've done a early Laverne & Shirley movie a few years before the T.V. series.

Well, Laura was already destroying herself, as all phoenixes did. Angelique did not destroy Laura, but she did foil her plan to sacrifice her children in the fire by turning her into a frightful hag. Remember, as we saw in Season 1 of DS, Laura came back in the 1960s. It was Vicky who foiled her plan to bring David with her into the fire.

Diana Millay was'nt on the 1897 storyline as long as when she appeared as Laura in D.S. The Early episodes 1966-67.

Laura is a Phoenix. Why does she have to yell for help to Dirk against Angelique? Many of times Angelique shows up just in time to save Barnabas from being staked.

That is why I always thought Laura's powers were limited. Angelique could zap someone on sight, Laura had to sit in front of a fire for minutes on end just to conjure up one spell. Other than starting fires, causing accidents involving fires, occasionally putting people into temporary catatonic states, and burning herself up to come back a century later, her powers were nothing compared to those of Angelique.

I think a recurring theme, hidden though it was, is that true love could conquer all. Julia and Vicky truly loved Barnabas, which is why they were able to stand up to the evil forces in the show without getting seriously harmed. In this sequence, Angelique was more benevolent and truly loved Barnabas rather than seeking to "conquer" him. Laura was a lone wolf who loved no one (not really even her own children).

Vicki was tough! I have no idea why so many people, even Alexandra Moltke, thought her character was naive and weak. I think it is because Vicki herself had certain powers that protected her from their wrath and that of Nicholas Blair as well. Remember, she had been teleported from the 18th century, and though in solid form, she was basically a "spirit" who had already died.
