A show well beyond its time. It saddens me that we've lost so many of these fine actors and actresses. I have the entire DVD collection of Dark Shadows and still watch it. It brings back fond memories of a childhood long since passed.

I love the episode where Roger unfairly berates Stokes and is then shaken by the physical manifestation of Quentin's ghost. Then he yells at the spirit as he leaves the house. He denied Vicki's trip to the past as well as the supernatural nature of his wife Laura. ( who was a phoenix). Despite his stubbornness, Roger is still fun to watch.

I can't believe as good an actor as David Selby is, that they had him go so long without speaking.

Same thing with James Storm. Quentin got to speak right away in 1897 after being a silent ghost In 1969. Gerard had to be a silent ghost in 1995 and 1970 before he was allowed to speak in 1840.

@@bruce8808 Yes it's weird....it was a weird deja Vu.....the ghosts couldn't speak...(same thing with Daphne)....unless they were summoned from the dead. It's funny they didn't have BOTH Quentin I AND II as Ghosts.

I remember noticing how similar the melodies of "Quentin's Theme" and " Lara's Theme" ("Somewhere My Love") from Dr. Shivago are.

Barnabas Collins was the Vampire of my childhood even more so than Dracula. Funny things about Dark Shadows episode numbering... holidays or other occassions in which the show did not air were still assigned an episode #. Episode s01e8 was followed by episode s01ep11 because episode #'s 09 & 10 were skipped as the result of a holiday. Although there were officially 1245 episodes(!), 20 episodes don't actually exist. (1-09, 1-10, 1-31, 2-26, 3-69, 3-91. 5-33, 6-34, 6-53, 8-02.8-24, 8-95, 9,14, 9-20, 9-21. 11-35, 11-55, 11-75, 11-80 12-08) I'm not sure if this was a standard numbering convention for soap operas, but among my collection it is the only show that does this. (I originally thought I was missing episodes). I assume in seasons 4, 7 and 10 holidays fell on weekends when the show did not air anyway, so no episoide #'s were skipped. Hope that assists folks who are attempting to add the show to their collection through online sources.

That scene at 2:58 showing the missing panel was an effective way to remind viewers of how the story began - in early December of '68 the two kids played an imaginative game with a broken telephone which led to the chat with Quentin and that led to the removal of the panel from the wall to discover the secret passage into the other room, etc. This was an entertaining storyline. The ratings quickly began to go up, up, up.

Yes, Maggie Evans is a character. And that is in a way, is because she's the most beautiful woman. She's smart too, and that is in figuring out of where is the two children are at, and what's left there.
