Lack of humility is what cause the Titan to implode.

A PlayStation controller being used to operate the sub wasn't the problem. Don't try to be so disingenuous with that fact. The US military uses XBox controllers to operate certain vehicles with that. The controller wasn't the problem.
@elysiabarr425Ай бұрын
Right? If it was a part of the problem, it’s a small part. The submersible was not meant to go 12,500 feet/4000km. It was a ticking time bomb. It was showing signs of haul fatigue. Stockton fired people because they pointed that out
@MrMustangManАй бұрын
those controller are like aircraft black boxes.... i've throw mine around and they still function like new.!!!!!!
@grahamsmith4183Ай бұрын
They clearly are not meant to be used in the pressures of that depth even though the cabin is pressurised, or do we skip past this lesson and use them as a sub controller again ?
@Ruka-f7kАй бұрын
The US military uses wired, official Microsoft controller. Titan used wireless bluetooth Logitech controller, arguably less reliable. The main concern was seeing them using the cheapest option available for what is the primary control system of the submarine.
@ewatfredАй бұрын
It was NOT a PlayStation controller, it was WORSE. It was a PC controller made by Logitech which is widely regarded by the PC gaming community as one of the worst controllers you can still buy new. The fact it still exists is terrible.

@carlostavaresjr958Ай бұрын
The media needs to get over the fact that a PlayStation controller drove the sub. It's more common then you think from gaming to robotics to industrial applications. Playstation controllers are the easiest to implement for control just about anything. The use of carbon fiber should be the talk there.
@irieite9666Ай бұрын
I'd be more concerned about the story of the CEO having a fit of rage and throwing the controller at his colleague.
@carlostavaresjr958Ай бұрын
@@irieite9666 haha but in seriousness that is the least of the issue. The materials were the problem here.
@davebrown9725Ай бұрын
Not only was the carbon fiber laid up in a problematic manner (spiral layers like cable on a winch, instead of an overlapping diagonal wrap), carbon fibers are strong in tension (pull) loading, not in compression (push/squeeze) loading. Wrong design for this kind of use all around.

The wreckage is not conclusive evidence that it is that of the Titan on its final voyage, as earlier submersibles had failed and they all are of similar appearance. This looks like part of one that failed near the surface and sank. Where are the pulverized fragments?

@davebrown9725Ай бұрын
The wreckage says "Titan" on the side of it, not some other submersible name. The carbon fiber "pressure vessel" shattered, and there is even a piece right next to the external (Non-pressurized) cover, nose down on the bottom.

Just finished watching Lockridge’s testimony, that the clip was pulled from! A lot of the same stuff we already knew, overall it just pointed out. There were worried about starting tours to make money! When that’s your only priority it never ends well! No one was experienced building subs. Some of the people didn’t even go to University. A bit of that DEI sprinkled in there! Same thing with the money you can apply to the DEI, it never ends well! Edit: investigators investigating on not what to do so they can prevent it! Um, perhaps Hiring based off a qualifications, experience, education will solve that problem! Just saying!

I don't feel sorry for them. They were stupid and reckless and unfortunately bad choices led to dire consequences. That's what happens when you're arrogant, stupid and reckless and they are likely in eternity regretting their recklessness and utter disregard for what truly mattered in life. They signed waivers and each person on board was of age and understood that they were putting their lives in jeopardy and they did it anyway.
