I’ve owned three of these, different models all Dewalt. I was a Rough Carpentry Apprentice and on one job site, a hotel, I went through two of them. The first had its gears stripped and the other sheared off in high torque applications. They were used heavily to install heavy hold downs between walls but they were invaluable. The third 90 degree impact adapter has heavy wear. I’d say that they are only good for maybe 200-300 screws in a high torque setting. The upgraded metal one gets incredibly hot after solid use for a half hour-an hour. Gloves needed. It was also hard to mark it with your name or something as it melted my 3m gloves and the rubber took into the groves on the metal. I would on occasion take a purple sharpie every other day or so and mark up the whole unit.

Long screws no problem. Small bolts 12mm 10mm 14 mm. Id get one. I gave them for Xmas to all the guys in my family. And yes I have a rt angle Bosch 12v but it doesn't fit. This thing fits in 1.25" with a 1" insert bit. Great video showing a very valuable tool. I dont kmow what $25 tool I have thats done more for me! Get one. This one. I install composite panels at work and need to put screws against a brick wall within a 1/2” gap. The milwaukee right angle attachment can get tighter to walls. The distance from the center of the bit to the edge of the tool is smaller on the milwaukee and making the milwaukee attachment to work. I cant get a screw in with the dewalt setup

Great demonstration. I have a right angle drill, and the attachment. I only use them once or twice a year. Right angle drilling is not preferred, it’s an obstacle you find yourself in. Hopefully not very often. When you do, you want it to perform with as little difference as possible. Glad you brought up the heat. Stuff like overheating can slow you down. If you have multiple holes, and a lot of them, it might be worth having 2, to let them cool between holes.
@alfredomarquez97775 жыл бұрын
The heat comes from the gear's teeth not meshing perfectly... but rubbing a little. This is because those are NOT precision gears at all, and because Chinese bearings are made with alot of slop, to quicken the assembly and prevent binding in badly cut gears. It is a result of low cost coupled to high profit policies at companies like DeWalt, specially under Stanley!

It's a nice handy tool to have in your tool box for occasions where you'll only have 3-4" of clearance. Despite it being impact rated, I would avoid putting it on an impact driver and expect it to not blow apart after 200+ screws. There are multiple moving parts inside. I focus on putting a lot of pressure onto the head so that the screw doesn't cam out while giving it consistent power from your drill driver. Probably not good enough for daily use by a professional, but bailed me out every time I run into a jam the last 5 years.
@TrollinCrazyRussian5 жыл бұрын
Buy two and alternate between them as other cool down best if you open it up and replace grease for premium grade grease which will reduce heat by reducing friction. For those who need it.

Use these all the time doing hvac in tight spaces. They work great when you need them, but Iv gone thru three dewalts in probably 2 years. They can’t handle any type of serious torque for anything other then screws. And the magnet that holds the bit in is very weak so you bits will fall out and go behind the wall if you aren’t careful. When you are in a pinch tho they are great. I just ordered the heavy duty Milwaukee one, which was pretty expensive, but it actually holds the bit in so I’m hoping it’s worth the extra money considering Iv already gone thru three dewalts. Time will tell

I have the older version of the impact ready 90° adapter and I use it in the automotive field all the time. I must say, absolutely worth every penny and a very robust accessory. I use it to fasten screws and bolts in very tight spots and it's got some torque to it. Im anxious to see if this newer version is even more robust.
@user-rw9gi5dq1b5 жыл бұрын
I have had one go bad on me before but I was using a 1/2" drive impact bit to a 18mm 1/2" impact swivel socket which is probably too much for it but I have used that same setup for quite some time before it eventually failed on me so like I said very robust design!

@TheB1gR3d885 жыл бұрын
I wish I had bought the black and yellow version (home depot exclusive from what I understand btw). My gray and yellow one is junk... I do metal framing and install door frames daily with it. The metal pin that you push the bit out with will eventually grind its way through the back and fall out (exact same thing happened on 2, so not just a defective one). The magnet on it and I'm sure this new gray and silver one's, hits and rubs on my bit extensions which caused it to wear down and eventually break apart. Hopefully this new one fixes the rub issue with a lower set magnet, but by the looks of the video, it's the same depth and will eventually break apart and that means you'll have no hold on any bit let alone screws.

Good review video, I consider myself a DeWalt guy and in all fairness I will have to get my hands on this upgraded version of the driver before counting it out BUT based on your review I believe Milwaukee’s 49-22-8510 90deg driver is far superior. Milwaukee’s model offers all-Metal housing and steel gears with ball bearings, and a quick change chuck that LOCKS the bit in place. Not to mention it has an adjustable handle for added control. I can’t say DeWalts version isn’t a good tool but I can say That Milwaukee’s version has great features which in my opinion sets the bar in this category. Would love for to see a follow-up comparison video.

I have the old unit, the bit retention was weak, bits were falling out. I had to put a short apex for the magnet, but it defeats the purpose of a compact right angle attachment. The old one would have what ever you use fall out of the unit if you weren't holding on to it. So far I have been able to use it in a impact without failure. The price point for the old one was just under 20 bucks. In my opinion was better than milwaukee. Keep up the great videos!!

Have seen the newer ones out but never paid them much mind as I have no need. Love my older Dewalt 90 degree. Never an issue with it. I guess I never paid attention to rpm requirements on packaging as a lower speed just seemed more intuitive for control, not stripping out a fastener or burning out the grease faster. Maybe It’s just me but just because it’s a fairly inexpensive accessory doesn’t mean a bit of maintenance or care isn’t required. Just my opinion. Everyone has them I’m told, lol. Stay safe.

Everyone in comments is using this for construction but I want it to use similar to a ratchet. For those tight spots normal ratchets get in, but electric ones are too bulky. Now even the electric ratchets don’t have much torque they’re mainly used to drive bolts in and out, then tighten or break loose with a torque wrench or a breaker bar. That is the intended use I want to do with this cool accessory.

Does this work with a drill + hole saw with appropriate shank? Or can get damaged? I want to drill 2.5" hole in a few joists. Have you done a video of this tool with a hole saw drilling in a 2x wood?
