Geologist here. To take up Johns point on talking to people outside the astrofysics box. I think that in classifying these things a comparison could be drawn to sedimentary rocks. Take sandstone. The sand grains come with all kinds of properties but so does the matrix binding the grains. That can be anything from ice and clathrates to liquids and quartz. The composition of an asteroid or comets could vary along granulometric, mineralogic, chemical, etc... properties. A couple of fossil fuel geologists/petrologists might give some methodological insights. Personnaly i see simularities in rock classification, rock metamorfosis, diagenesis.....

I can certainly see there could be a lot Mir discovered given more eyes from the material sciences, a life long geologist will definitely have a bit different approach and outlook than an astronomer. Our modern hyper specialization has it's strong suits but we've emphasized it too much at the expense of cross discipline and generalist work. They're all important.

JMG…you have a remarkable skill-one that can’t be taught. Whether you’re speaking with one guest or many, you have an innate ability to sense when and what questions to ask, when to interject, and when to simply let the conversation flow. You also need to stop selling yourself short. While you may not fit the mold of a traditional academic, you consistently engage in deep, meaningful, and thought-provoking conversations with some of the brightest minds of our time. More often than not, you raise questions or propose hypotheticals that compel these scientists to pause and reflect-perhaps even sparking an “aha!” moment they haven’t experienced in a while. The scientific community needs more people like you-individuals who can grasp complex concepts, ask interdisciplinary questions, and infuse creativity and artistry into scientific discourse. You bring the “what-ifs” and imaginative perspectives that pure science sometimes overlooks, and that is invaluable. Thanks for the video. Looking forward to the next one.

Instrumentation bias. As a young science starts to spool up, the instrumentation is "primitive". In the case of astronomy, this meant small, atmosphere bound telescopes that today would be considered "toys" by the profession. So all of our Classification Systems were skewed to BRIGHT! Huge asteroids and pristine gassy comets. (Also giant stars, and local planets). The more we can see, the more holes in our older cladistics we do see. Biology has it even worse with the sudden addition of genetic tech.

Person without training in conventional thinking here. I don't use credentials or certificates to prove I know something, instead I rely on the content of my speech to portray ideas and concepts and trust that if the content is good then it'll be heard. I love how people introduce themselves as "credentialed individuals". It's honestly an ego thing, and I personally find it disgusting. On top of that I find that the majority of those "with credentials" are trained into a way of thinking that supports CONVENTION and not CRITICAL THINKING. So, stop leaning on your "credentials", it merely signals to me that you're brainwashed.
