While it looks like a halfway house graphically between a N64 and Dreamcast game, it's still great to see the little grey box being supported. It also can't be easy to make a game these days with limited resources, so even if it is glitchy, it still still has to be respected from a technical point.

Yeah not only is it easy to get the Sega Dreamcast to play something. But I think there's also a lot of love because it's Sega's last big console platform. That a really bad launch in Japan, the PlayStation 2 hype and all of their past mistakes starting with the Sega CD caught up to them and got it discontinued way before it's time. In a little over 2 years it had already amassed so many titles that are beloved to this day.

If it's crowd funded, I would like the devs to consider releasing the source code for the gsme or the engine so the fans can build on the great effort that's been put in already. Reflections, higher poly models, improved textures, better 2 and maybe 4 player support with online play are all things that the DC can do and do well. Let the DC shine!

Not really what crowd funding is all about though. It's nothing more than allowing small teams to get some private investment to help make their project a reality, those that back the project would have been given their incentives or rewards for doing so. I do agree it would be nice not to get the source code per say they obviously done their homework and got a game out, but maybe it would be nice if the devs could make the tools available? I would pay money for a small indie dev kit. Sort of like that NES maker from the new 8 bit heroes.

@Drumslav Czechisenko It could, at 60fps? Probably not but 30 fps? Yeah and there are already better looking racing games on those systems. For homebrew it's impressive because it's not a 2d shmup which are plentiful on the system but the moment you start comparing it to real games then this starts falling apart. I get it, it's a passion project but the moment you start asking money for it you should expect criticism also and this game is simply not worth it at 39 euros.

The duel mode is bugged. You can't win as player 2. If player 2 crosses the line 1st nothing happens then p1 crosses and wins. No sound for player 2 in there either. Has an option for a vibration pack but doesn't work. The single player is too easy unfortunately. The cars are cosmetic only too as they all are the same speed.

Props to the devs for making this, but it has the feel of an Android game to me. If it was cheaper, say $10-15, it may be worth it, but I can think of better ways to spend $40.

I will bite unapologetically, no matter if people want to jump at my throat, saying "you should develop your own game before talking trash": This game looks and feels TEPID. It even reminds me of the stuff Midas Games did over on the PS1. - No AA - Looks like it used an inefficient C++ SDK or the WindowsCE APIs - Bland design and tracks - Inefficient use of resources - Generic presentation

It certainly isn't a very stylish game, but the fact that you can get a physical copy that runs on a Dreamcast is obviously the main point. I hope the team doesn't stop here and considers using the knowledge they gained making this to work on a sequel with more polish! Seeing modern cars thrown in with period correct ones was distracting and certain style things like the menus, cars like the Outrun Ferrari riding on giant, narrow wheels instead of smaller, super wide ones, and the way the camera feels so unresponsive and makes it difficult to see ahead while turning are all things that keep this from being an exciting release. Computing power does not determine how good a game looks, a good sense of style does! I realize most of the work must have gone into just getting the thing to run properly and getting the manufacturing process figured out, but now that that's done I can't wait to see what comes next!

Yeah it may not be Shenmue 2 levels of graphics, but this is a low budget indie game. I'm just happy it's in 3D. Every indie post discontinuation Dreamcast game I've seen is 2D.

I saw you name checked in this when I got it the other day. I'm absolutely blown away by what they've pulled off with so little access to the true capabilities of the system. I was actually blown away when I discovered it was 60fps rather than 30fps. There are more than a few official DC releases that look and run worse that were full price releases. Spirit of Speed, Roadsters and Exhibition of Speed to name just 3... I also really love the handling mechanics (take some getting used to, but it feels like Ridge Racer had a baby with Sega Rally once it starts to click) Very good stuff.

Looks impressive for the budget! It´s a tough competition on the platform though since Dreamcast has a lot of great arcade racers. Great to see that the game is finished and released, here´s hoping more ambitious indie games will be developed in other genres.

Dev should study track design from classic racers more closely as these tracks look very uninteresting. Start more modestly and get the basics right.

I heard of this one awhile back but wanted to wait for someone to review it before committing. First and foremost, it is awesome to still see new games being developed for the Dreamcast by the Homebrew/Indie community. Playing new games for old consoles is always an adventure whether the game is good or bad. It brings you back to the olden days of going into a Toys R Us with your folks and they let you pick a new game for your childhood console. Now about the game itself, it looks fine as a whole. Obviously there are better racing games out there, but this one looks like a nice casual racing game that anyone could sit down for half and hour or so to play. I enjoy racing games both old and new, casual and realistic so I'd still pick this one up. Not everyone will be sold on this game for $40, but I wouldn't mind because getting new stuff for old stuff is more for the nostalgia trip than anything else.

This is the only indie Dreamcast game I've seen that's in full 3D. Everything else has been 2D shmups and side scrollers. How do these guys even learn the Dreamcast 3D graphics API? I'm guessing it might be similar to older versions of OpenGL.

I hope there are developers out there that know how to take advantage of the NAOMI hardware! They dont seem to exist anymore! The NAOMI games looked and performed way beter than whats displayed here! Nothing against the developers, they tried! however the dreamcast hardware can produce way beter graphics!

NAOMI isn't Dreamcast, it's got loads more memory, faster GPU, additional hardware etc. But I agree, Dreamcast can look better than this.

DC games based on WIndows CE libs (like this one probably) do not use fully the DC hardware. Sega Rally 2 is the most prominent example. Its just an easy way to do games and other software on DC.

I think that "under-water-tunnel-track" looks brilliant, and I noticed some whales swimming around. But I agree with SLX a bit more detail, bringing everything to life, wouldn't have hurt. (In this particular stage, maybe some smaller fish swimming around, or some light-reflection through the water would have done it) That said, they pulled off a great job, and I feel thankful, someone are still developing for my beloved DC. I hope they'll do more. 🙏😇

The main problem with this game is the track designs are just so... bland. Very flat and narrow with nothing much going on. The game ends up feeling like countless other forgettable arcade racers around that time.

We have new Sega MegaDrive games and people are surprised about Dreamcast homebrew lol. Anway, it looks rather decent, but the seeming lack of anisotropic filtering is a bit distracting. Also... something tells me this is meant to be played widescreen.

A team, makin' a Dreamcast game that doesn't look 16Bit? ...and three dimentional one? Finally! Game looks kinda fun; admittedly though, it also looks like it's running on N64, texture work is subpar and geometry as low as an earlier generation console game, cars don't seem to be shaded either; but still, it's a first step; I can only hope that, one day, someone makes a game that finally pushes our beloved system to its very limits, wich was never possible due to it being discontinued in 2001... By the way; is it just me, or does that "Daytona Style" song at 4:33, sound like Jak and Daxter?

Having Metropolis Street Racer as the base racing game to start from in the DC... I can say this game could've done better. A looooot better. Higher polygon models, higher details on environment, and better vehicle physics.

If you say the controls are like Sega Rally, that's about the only thing you could say to pique my interest in a racer. That drift mechanic in the Saturn game was the only racing I ever really enjoyed.

Nice that these devs took time out to still work on a Dreamcast game, but there are way better options , as far as racers on Dreamcast. Test Drive Le Mans, V-Rally, Metropolis Street Racer, etc. This should be a $20 game vs a $40 game. But again, im glad they at least took time to make a Dreamcast game

They should take as much time as they need to properly refine the Switch and Playstation versions, rather than just give them a HD make over. They could also incorporate those improvements on the Dreamcast with a special DX release.

There should be a AAA title that comes out as like Total Badass 7 - but TB 1-6 don't exist. They figure out what TB 7 IS but creating TB1 & 2 on the NES, TB3 on the SNES, and in a move that shocked the imaginary press at the time TB4 on the PS1 and so on.

Its looks impressive for a fan made game on an old system but what was bugging me watching the video is the yellow lines in the centre of the road seem to be drawing themselves right in front of you as you are racing which was distracting to watch once I noticed it. It does look a bit bland overall and more like an early Dreamcast game that was ported from the N64. Still good to see a full 3D game released on an old system rather than just a sprite based one.
