@@RetrOrigin they almost went bankrupt because Sony flooded the worldwide market with hundreds of millions of bootleg, counterfeit Dreamcast games because the system had improper protections against these. Typical Sony behavior, really. And while it may be true that it was sold at a loss for them, there's something incredibly admirable about a company not gouging every nickle and dime from the user, and allowing an incredible amount of people to access their great product.
@RetrOrigin3 жыл бұрын
@@tynao2029 That makes absolutely no sense. The Dreamcast has one of the highest attach and tie ratios, which means piracy has almost no impact on its failure. Piracy was only really an issue in 3rd world countries where hardware sales are normally low anyway. Out of all of Sega's failures, the Dreamcast is one that really hits home. What a fantastic system! Can you imagine being a Sega developer at the time? What team at Sega ultimately held the responsibility for putting new consoles out there without enough content to support the launch? To me, it's what led to their demise in the console market space.
@surfersilver66103 жыл бұрын
Not really as you can see there were plenty of games made and like 95% of them were excellent, unlike most systems that can go 50/50 or less in an entire collection with playability/quality. The Sony Playstation was the huge problem as it was only 1 year away and played DVD's where DC did not(A huge oversight on SEGA). People waited for it instead because of that feature. Look at ANY launch of Sony consoles and a huge portion of sales were not to gamers but to regular consumers who just to play DVD/Blu-ray movies since the consumer grade standalone players cost more than the Sony and could not play games. There are several other levels to Sega's failure the bigger ones were not having enough consoles to keep up with demand, a problem with every big console launch it seems, so people went and bought something else that was available for Christmas presents instead of a DC. Then Sega dropped the machine altogether instead of persevering and coming out with a new improved model, when Sony launched, that could play DVD's and an upgrade option for current owners at a minimal price. If they stuck it out I think it would have been a Sony killer if not just true contender that would be around today. The more I read on SEGA & DC the more problems I learn of they created like investing in Arcade Parlors around the country eating up resources(that could have been used to make more consoles available at launch).

I'm drunk and I just watched you say "Hey guys Metal Jesus here" at least 20 times. You should do a video of everytime you've said "Hey guys Metal Jesus here"

My best friend and I still constantly play Virtua Tennis and Rush 2049. I don’t even care for real tennis but that game is AMAZING and he such a rocking soundtrack… and Rush 2049 is so great just to drive anywhere and do crazy stunts on the stunt tracks. Ahhhh Dreamcast.. I 💙 you.

I agree with Virtua Tennis, it's the first solid Tennis game I played and it's a great couch sports battle game with a friend. NBA 2K franchise which is a massive franchise nowadays was born in the Dreamcast.

Vigilante 8 2dn Offence, one of the best of its time, if you can master the combos you can destroy the AI, but in multiplayer is where becomes very interesting
