Advance Driving School how about driving 35-37 at speed limit of 40? Is that a fault as well? And turning nearside instead of offside in a junction is that a serious fault?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool6 жыл бұрын
@@MM-cq5bl Don't regard the speed limit as a target, we should drive at a safe speed for the conditions - so driving at 35 in a 40 is no problem. By the way, the examiner will use the car's speedometer for the purposes of the test, so ignore the GPS speed that the camera shows - as the driver wouldn't see it either at the time. Where is the junction fault you mentioned?

You are so right , i am getting ready for my test but some of the instructors i came around insults you so badly and say bad words which makes you so depressed and de-motivated that you want to stop learning !! They get on your nerves and pass negativity so much that it can make you jump out of the car . I believe this attitude won't help the students as it seems they are only doing it for money not careing that they are teachers and being rude with their students won't help in any way .!!! In my case instructor confused me by changing the same rule twice and blamed on me not following it when i wrote it in my diary after every single lesson ! The mistakes i did and the rules he introduced during every lesson!! Such a pain taking lessons if you don't get a good instructor .....😔😐

Check all mirrors. -when already park on the opposite side of the road, the examiner might ask you to reverse back 2 cars space, make sure you look behind.360 degree visual check. Hope this helps,

I agree and disagree at the same time. This video clearly makes the point. Drivers still doing many faults after they passed the test. Do we need that much highly nervous mok tests? I don’t think so... the best solution here is experience. I would rather suggest making minimum of 100 hours of driving for each learner and having guaranteed license after reached those hours. Rather then having 40 hours of driving and booking your test and making luck to pass or not.

Mirror check when you're taking the second exit in a roundabout is silly while you're trying to turn the car in a curve. It causes distraction and you might hit the curb or a car that might hit the break in front. Over checking mirror is an absolute distraction.
@AdvanceDrivingSchool6 жыл бұрын
If we need to change lanes before exiting the roundabout, then we must check if there is another car beside us. There is plenty of time to check our left Mirror before Signalling to commit to the Manoeuvre - as per the MSM routine.

As a Mexican who's interested in acquiring as many good driving skills and habits as possible, I must say I've learnt a lot from watching videos about the UK driving test, such as what distances to keep in different climate conditions and when to look at the mirrors while driving. I wish driving tests in my country were this rigorous because this is what mainly prevents accidents from happening on the roads (along with proper police vigilance), which is something that's urgent in Mexico. The big majority (if not all) of our driving tests are a joke in comparison. At least I want to feel like I'm doing my part trying to be a good citizen in this context, so these videos are quite helpful in becoming a better driver.

That video certainly emphasised a very comment fault among drivers regarding mirror checks before signalling. It was interesting to see that over the shoulder checks were frequently used during the drive. As an experience driver I find these videos a useful way to keep up to date and remind me that the basics are important.
@EinkOLED6 жыл бұрын
I was a full licence motorcyclist before I passed my test first time this year. So observation and shoulder checks became natural and an absolute must to reassure myself that nothing was obscuring my view. It just took 20 hours of tuition to pass, so to become a good driver it helps to ride a motorcycle where observation of your surroundings becomes natural due to your vulnerability.
@tothethreshold.99655 жыл бұрын
@@EinkOLED I am doing my test in a few hours. Like you i am an experienced motorcyclist. I took 3 two hour lessons for a total of 6 hours tuition yet he says my driving is more than good enough for a test pass. Like you say its all about observations, they are a bikers number one defence on the roads and with the car test they seem to want car drivers up to the standard bikes have used for decades.I am confident in my driving ability, so far i have been surprised if anything by how easy cars are to drive compared to bikes.There is so much less to worry about haha.

Signals before looking is the main problem ive spotted here, Treat your indicators as your feet, You would never step out without looking First. 😁😂
@marksmith27385 жыл бұрын
Sorry, that makes no logical sense. A signal is a signal, not an act or movement. I can *signal* my intention to take an action, and never take it if it is not safe. So, given that logic, what is the harm in signalling first and checking to see that it is safe to proceed second? To my mind, that makes way more sense. In the time between checking and signalling, the situation could change. So, to be completely safe you have to check, signal, then check again to make sure it is safe to make the maneuver. Skip the first check... signal your intention, then check to see it is safe to proceed.
@kheo465 жыл бұрын
@@marksmith2738 your so right,finally found a comment with someone who agrees with me
@s0ftboiled-w8l3 жыл бұрын
@@marksmith2738 I think the reason for this, is so you dont signal to turn right as someone is coming up your right side. I know it sounds silly, but it can scare the driver and cause him to hard brake, even though you intended to go behind them. Ive driven motorbikes for some years, and one thing I have noticed is that people signal as they turn, not before they turn. Its incredibly frustrating to see! When you are turning right, its pretty obvious you are turning right, as your whole vehicle is moving the the right, why do people indicate so late? The indicator lets me know BEFORE hand that you intend to turn right, that's why its called an INDICATOR!!?!?!?!?!?

@@AdvanceDrivingSchool I see, thank you for the clarification. Frankly, I quite like the idea of "independent driving" section. Candidates have to drive confidently and cautiously while following the current traffic patterns and traffic signs to reach to the designated location without step-by-step instructions given by the examiner. It tests new drivers' ability of observation skills (e.g. looking for the correct exit at the roundabouts) and proper manoeuvre (e.g. taking a diversion, looking out for road works). I wish we have this section for our drivers' road test too. P.S. Best of luck to all the road test candidates. Stay safe.

Why on Earth are the UK tests so weird. You first have to make sure that there is nobody around you and then signal and turn. What? You should signal your intentions so that the other cars know what you are up to, then check if it is safe to proceed with your manoeuvre. Checking mirrors before braking. Excuse me? The car behind you should keep a safe distance behind you in any case, not to mention is you are in a learning car. Those are distractions that can be potentially very dangerous for everyone on the road. I won't go with the other ridiculous details such as keeping your handbrake on while stopped on a traffic light.

For instance what happens when there are cars all around you and you want to change lanes to turn right? What the driver has to sit there all day, hoping the traffic will disappear? Like I don't understand. In most european countries, you have to communicate your intentions first and then proceed if it's safe.

@turtletrading42076 жыл бұрын
@@NB7281 Trust me, if you use this ideology you wouldn't be able to turn...ever...on a busy street. You are not forcing your way, you just signal your intentions. The driver behind you or in front of you might be even generous enough to give you yield. Those rules that instructors sometimes teach are often either completely useless and sometimes even dangerous.

I took my driving lessons in Camborne Cornwall in 2018 first time I failed with 9 minus faults & 1 serious fault. Second time I failed with 6 minus faults & 1 serious fault Third time I forgot my license & they didn’t allowed me to drive And finally fourth time I passed my driving test with only 3 minus faults. Anyone who wants to take their lessons always focus on your observations & speed & don’t forget to have your license with you all the time Wish you all the best in your exam

Instead of slowing me to a controlled stop, my vehicle carried on regardless, and I ended up implanted into the rear of the vehicle in front. And that was the point where I suspected there 'may' have been a problem with my ABS''._ Followed by: _''Certainly Officer, I don't mind blowing into that...''_

Can someone tell me why breaking before mirror check is a fault? When you're slowing down at a roundabout or a traffic light surely what's behind you is unimportant unless you were breaking hard. A slow gradual stop I'm surprised is a fault. Also 10:31 is a ridiculous fault

It shouldn't be a fault at 10:30 when she is merging with the dual carriageway. She applies the signal in good time to indicate her intention. She then carefully checks the mirror and blind spot and merges safely. That early signal didn't mislead anyone or cause confusion.
@AdvanceDrivingSchool2 жыл бұрын
The Highway Code says that we should use the Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre routine. The examiner on a driving test will be checking that we follow this routine, so if we mix up this order we should expect to be given a fault. This video might help: Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre Routine: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGanfnqwoa6tibs 👍🏼

After 10 years bad habits will be drilled into your head, it will be VERY difficult to change them and get into good habits, due to this retesting would be a nightmare as so many people would fail and then drive illegally as they need it for work. Another idea would be to get people to do a minimum number of hours to learn to drive so they drill GOOD habits into their head, or they pass with a restricted licence and then have to do another test a year later to get a full licence.

:( Checking mirrors before slowing the car to let the pedestrian pass is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PRACTICE and should be removed from exam rules ASAP. The pedestrian SAFETY GOES FIRST. Young drivers please look on the road (as soon as you pass your exam of course) in stead of the mirrors all the time. The mirrors are important but looking ahead may save someones life.

Great video to learn !! how many driver faults and serious faults are allowed before failing. I understand up to 16 minor faults are legally allowed. But in her case after every 4 mirror faults, it was upgraded to serious faults, which means lane driving and being a careful driver on roads doesn't mean any safe for driving instructors! What they were looking for mirror checks@#$%

Guys I have just failed my test today. I had two minors and one major mistake. The major mistake was that I was driving 22-25 mph on a 20 mph road. I did not checked the road signs and I trusted that TomTom satnav. DO NOT TRUST TomTom haha. Overall I am satisfied because I feel like a confident driver. It is not the end of the world. I took a selfie with that 20mph road sign that failed me today and next time I will not trust TomTom. I hope my story will help you guys. Best of luck! FOCUS ON THE TRAFFIC SIGN! I will always remember this. By the way this was my first attempt!
@AdvanceDrivingSchool6 жыл бұрын
That's unfortunate! It's not just TomTom though - every sat-nav has a few errors here and there. You can trust the road signs and markings, but treat any sat-nav guidance as advice - that you can take or leave. Better luck next time :-)

Hi I'm from Mauritius 😉 wooww in your country it seems hard to get license ...... hats off like really 40 mins of test...... in Mauritius our test drive last only for 2 min or less because most of our time get kills in traffic jam and the easy part we only have to be careful about the road signs..instructions and change lanes that all we have to do 🤗 the funniest part is that all of that is easy like a piece of cake but we still fail and have to come 3 4 times more to get license... tomorrow will be my third time going for the test drive 🙄 lots of love 🤗

I had concerns about her safety procedures and msm technics too and her crossing arm on steering and letting steering wheel rotate by itself in a test situation was also a concern..hopefully she was advised to check her mirrors more and apply the msm technics. Very informative video.
@UKDrivingTest6 жыл бұрын
Crossing hands and letting the wheel rotate by itself is not the best idea, but would not be marked down on a driving test, this is a misconception. They just want to make sure you are steering the correct amount, i.e. not too much or too little.

6:00 The braking before mirror check I don't think should be a fault because you don't really have a choice anyway because you have a car in front that's stopped. In this case I don't think it should be a fault.

i don't know why but it bothered me so much when she indicated for bends
@sidj30186 жыл бұрын
the first time she done it, the sat nav did say turn left but it was a bend so wasn't her fault
@sidj30186 жыл бұрын
but at 3:46 it is a bend but the sat nav says "turn right", that's why the driver put the right indicator on nd so the examiner should've said that it's acc a bend and not a turn!! can't give her a fault for that !
@AdvanceDrivingSchool6 жыл бұрын
Sat-Nav units are full of mistakes - and we would expect the driver to read the road markings and signs and understand whether a signal is required or not. Perhaps a real examiner might not give a fault, but we'd rather be fussy than let too much stuff slide!

@@AdvanceDrivingSchool I have been driving 11 years and i would have indicated at that "bend" just to ensure that the driver approaching the junction knows i am going to cross their path and not proceed straight on. There is a junction almost exactly like that one in my town and the vast majority of drivers indicate for it out of courtesy. If that is seriously considered a fault these days i can absolutely understand why so many young drivers are being involved in RTAs at poorly marked junctions like that one.

Sorry but why do you need to check your mirrors when your stopping at a junction, behind a queue of traffic and for people who are crossing the road? i’m 16 so haven’t started learning yet so i’d just like to know if there’s an actual reason behind it or if it’s just to get you into the habit of checking all your mirrors before you do anything?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool6 жыл бұрын
We need to check how close any following traffic is before we change our speed or stop, as if we are being tailgated then we can brake earlier and more gently to reduce the chance of being rear-ended. The routine we should try to follow (except in emergencies) is Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre - we have made a video about it here; kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGanfnqwoa6tibs

Its not possible to be objective about your own driving that's why we have to be tested independently. Complacency causes accidents and the basics of driving such as MSM should never be seen as optional after passing your test.
@Xenobat5 жыл бұрын
I would imagine after all that time you'll have picked up some bad habits. I'd even bet on it. Every driver does. And, like most drivers, I think you'd probably fail your mock test again now. It's not a negative comment on you personally, it's just a proven fact that everyone's driving changes after they get their licence.
