Quick Update - I did go back and check the DC output voltage with a different cable and a multi-meter and I was getting a full 13.5V out (no load, obviously). So those low VDC numbers I was showing were the result of a bad connector on that cable I had attached to my tester, and not the AC180 outputting low VDC.

Good day sir, i really need your help! I am a disabled veteran with severe COPD and can no longer fly because my oxygen needs exceed what a portable oxygen concentrator can provide. I have a daughter that is expecting a baby in early December and I would like to go visit her in El Paso, Tx which is a long way from my home in Nashville. I need to find a way of powering my full size oxygen concentrator IN MY CAR for several days. I believe it requires about 585 watts. I am wondering if there is a portable power station that can support this AND be charged from my car’s cigarette lighter output continuously while the engine is running? Obviously it MUST BE a reliable solution since my life will literally depend upon what ever is selected to provide the power for oxygen! ANY advice would be much appreciated, Thank You!

Can you charge the Pecron 1500 with a gas generator when it needs to be recharged?
@user-ny2tr8vw3g
@user-ny2tr8vw3g 7 ай бұрын
@@davec.551 I think this is doable. The beauty with portable power stations is that you can test them at home so you can determine if they can last long enough. You can charge them from your car, and many come with car chargers included! But if you need 585 watts continuously you are not going to get that out of the cigarette lighter, which usually have a limit of 120W at 12v, depending on your car. However, 585 watts seems like a lot, perhaps 585 is the peak wattage, and not the average? You need to know the average wattage in order to estimate what battery capacity your power station needs to have. You could buy one of those power meters that you plug in your AC power outlet, then plug your oxygen concentrator in the power meter to measure the wattage in real time, as you use it. You could return the power meter after you do your measurements, but these power meters are not very expensive anyway (20 dollars?) Good news is that even if you draw 585 watts continuously from the power station, many power stations will still last a few hours, or even days for the more expensive ones, and they can be charged from the car while the car is running, which increases the hours they can run. You could charge them at a diner or gas station on the road, some of them charge fully in 1 hour! What i would do if I were you, i would find a shop with a decent return policy (1 month or more) and buy 2 or more power stations and return them after using them. This way, you will have a backup in case one fails, and you don't have to break the bank or cheap out. Second good news: everything you need is kind of plug and play, you don't have to make modifications, you can buy the devices directly. Later edit: Actually, why not just use a diesel or gas powered generator? You can refill it, so it has infinite capacity, and you can run the exhaust outside your car just by rolling down your window a bit and putting the exhaust through it (or buying a heating pipe or something and routing that out the car). You can even use some cardboard or plastic or wood, cut a hole into it, and put the exhaust through that, so you don't have to ride with cool air going inside your car. And as long as you keep your car ventilation on, and not on recycling internal air, just on, you will have 0 risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Or if you worry about that, you could just roll down a window a bit. The generator will probably heat the air in your car anyway.

Good review Reewray :) P.S. Everybody that goes to my channel knows that we are big fans of pecron. And this e1500lfp looks like a winner. We have given pecron every idea that we could to better the e2000lfp since we had so much knowledge about it. Think they might have made a home run with this system :) P.P.S. These are the main updates that we REALLY like with this unit :) 1. UPS (e2000lfp does not have this) 2. NEWER TECHNOLOGY (pecron worked out all the bugs that e2000lfp right off the bat) 3. APP (e2000lfp does not have this) 4. 30a DC OUPUT (XT60) (e2000lfp does not have this on the main unit, it does have it on the eb3000 batteries) 5. 2,200 WATT AC INVERTER (4,400 SURGE) (e2000lfp is only 2,000w) 6. BATTERY BALLANCE ON THE FLY (e2000lfp has to wait 1-2 hours to re-calibrate) 7. NO POWER BRICK CHARGING TO LUG AROUND (e2000lfp has a HUGE power brink) 8. WIFI FUNCTION (e2000lfp does not have this) 9. POSSIBLE TO CHARGE ALL 3 PIECES WITHOUT WAITING FOR THE POWER METER TO CORRECT ITSELF (e2000lfp does not have this) 10. 48v BATTERY PACK (e2000lfp is 24v battery pack) 11. 8 POUNDS LIGHTER FOR MAIN SECTION (e2000lfp is 48 pounds) 12. NEWER RIGHT ANGLE CABLES (e2000lfp are much longer and get in the way) 13. WHOLE BATTERY PACK LOOKS LIKE IT CAN SLIDE OUT AND BE REPLACED IF NEEDED (e2000lfp does not have this) 14. BATTERIES ALREADY 48v AND CAN BE USED WITH THE NEXT E3600LFP IF YOU UPGRADE (e2000lfp battery is 24v and not used in newer power stations) 15. 1,400w AC CHARGING (e2000lfp is only 1,100w) 16. COMES WITH 12v ALLIGATOR CLIPS FOR CHARGING CAR BATTERIES (do not remember getting these with mine, but we did get a set with the eb3000) 17. 48v battery pack is MUCH easier to hook up to rv's (e2000lfp is 24v battery pack) note: If we did not already have the e2000lfp (8kw) system, We would have bought this 100% over the e2000lfp with the one exception (500wh less battery capacity)

I would like to be able to connect this Portable Solar Station to the popular Home Assistant where it could be used for automation and monitoring with history from anywhere I can connect to the internet. In Home Assistant there is a ready-made solar monitoring environment where all it needs is data from any solar system to be delivered to it. This and similar features should be the natural standard for all Portable Solar Stations and systems nowadays, even for small, medium and for large ones too.

Appreciate your time in doing this tests for us. I also appreciate that you extend the inverter load test beyond 5 minutes unlike other reviewers. This Pecron units seem to be giving Ecoflow a run for their money now. How is their Customer Service? I almost bought the first units that came out with the huge brick for charging, but the real reason I never bought one was because I did not have enough solar panels to meet the minimum VOC requirements needed to charge it. Have you asked them why they require such a high 32V to charge? Again as always great video.

I miss a monitoring system with history and the possibility to connect, monitoring and setting the unit from anywhere with internet - this should be the common standard nowadays, something like Solar Assistant or VRM portal, and I would like the possibility of monitoring for online and offline mode, where in offline mode the data would be stored in internal memory and in the next online mode the offline data with usage would be automatically transferred to the monitoring system itself. Hopefully some Portable Solar Station will have this functionality someday. Or at least have the possibility to connect to a Solar Assistant like the All-In-One inverters have.

Thanks for the nice review. So it sounds like this unit doesn't have an auto shutoff of the AC inverter if no power is drawn is detected after X amount of time. That sounds like this is an area of improvement. Other power stations have this automatic cutoff if not power draw is detected after X amount of time. Accidentally leaving your inverter on for a day and losing 50% of your charge seems like real negative....and what might happen if you left it on by accident before a 2 week vacation. I'm assuming it would take the battery down to 0% and permanently damage the battery? Also does the app allow you to turn off the inverter from a remote location. Also you mentioned that the AC power efficiency with it's 2000 watt inverter is 82% under lower loads...which seems very average to me. But you referenced that under higher loads you got 95% efficiency under higher loads..which is VERY good...But you didn't really explain what the advantage of it's 2000 watt inverter. I'm sure it's obvious to you and many of your more knowledgeable viewers but could you boil that down to practical terms (e.g. not able to run larger appliances like a....) for everyone else? Thanks.

@ReeWrayOutdoors I have reviewed many power stations and one test most fail is using the DC car socket to run an intermittent load like a 12 volt car fridge. Because those fridges don't draw enough power to signal a load is on unless the fridge compressor is running the power station assumes there is no load and shuts off. That can be a major problem and result in spoiled food in the fridge. That also applies to DC loads run from the USB ports. If they are intermittent the power station will shut off. That is a common problem with most power stations. Also can that unit be charged from AC and solar at the same time and does it charge any faster?
@ReeWrayOutdoors
@ReeWrayOutdoors 8 ай бұрын
Yeah that's why I do a 24hr DC fridge test with a fully-stocked pre-cooled fridge operating in a cool ambient temp to ensure the compressor runs extremely intermittently. Regarding the dual-charge question, I don't think this will do that...and honestly I don't think it's really all that necessary given the fast-charging it already has. Why stress the batteries even further just to shorten recharge time by maybe 30mins at most? Personally, that's not typically a trade-off I'd find valuable very often.

There's certainly no harm in connecting the 300W panel to the aviation port, but you'll probably not get any charge. I'd reach out to their tech support and provide the VOC specs from the solar panel and see what they say before you try it, just to be safe. The solution might be to get another panel and connect them in series to boost the voltage enough to allow you to use the aviation port.

I believe the Pecron E1500 LFP can be a solid and reliable UPS. Coupled with a high power secondary battery, it could provide many hours of support to a computer - multi -monitors-router-fiber modem combination. The needed power draw of your combination in Watt must be measured. As an example, a 400 Watt combo could be provided power for a little more than 3 and a half hour on a fully charged E1500 LFP (1536 Wh). During a sunny day with an adequate solar input the 400 W power draw could last a few more hours. If at sundown the E1500 LFP is fully charged, the 400 W combo can last the full 3,5 hours. The major difference with a regular computer UPS is that the Pecron E1500 LFP does not notify the computer about the time remaining before turning off. For that, one has to keep an eye on the E1500 LFP screen.

Curious re ups capability.... Let's say the power goes out and the ups kicks in perfectly But the power is out for a while and it runs out of power and shuts down When grid power kicks back in, what mode does start in (does it start?)? Does it pass through power and charge up? If the power goes back out, is it still running in ups mode? Or do your devices lose power the second time around
@ReeWrayOutdoors
@ReeWrayOutdoors 6 ай бұрын
Excellent questions! In this 'portable' class of power stations, what will happen is that once grid power goes out, power auto-switches to battery/inverter. Then, if power comes back BEFORE the power station's charge is depleted, it will auto-charge and begin passing through power again. But if power is out long-enough and the unit runs all the way down to 0% SOC, it'll shut-down....and then when grid power comes back on, it will wake up and begin charging again...BUT the AC inverter will not auto-resume. This seems to be a function that is typically only available in more expensive home-backup solutions.

@realadam7855
@realadam7855 5 ай бұрын
I use a Reliance Controls transfer switch offering 10 x 120 V circuits when at home. Fridge (100 Watt/hour), Freezer Energy Star (45 W/h) WiFi-Router-Modem- Bridges to home automation (29 W/h), Alarm system (7 W/h) all together for an instant less than 200 Watt consumed and at least 8 hours continuous support with only the E1500 LFP. When the solar array provides enough, I switch circuits to use shortly one at a time of microwave oven (up to 1650 W), counter top oven (up to 1650 W), espresso coffee maker ((up to 1650 W) , kettle (1250 W) or even a 1500 W space heater. The 2200 W inverter limit of E1500 LFP allows for many combinations but the real limit is the battery capacity or power available. Pairing the E1500 LFP with 48 volt batteries supplying the solar or else at leat 32-95 Volt MPPT charging port with some 500 W+ extends the support during an outage. Continuous use appliances like the lighting, the TV, the space heater use, WiFi router use the power continuously contrary to many other devices that work for a few minutes at a time. The continuous use appliances must be supervised as they continously draw power.

First, I tested out a 1200w load and the unit shut off. Also, the unit charges (sometimes), but the control board never knows the state of charge. I tried charging it a few times and it gets to around 90 percent and then as soon as I unplug the ac charging cable, the percentage drops back to 1 or 2 percent instantly. It never has the correct reading. I contacted support and after weeks of back and forth and then contacting the “engineers” they want me to ship it back. I have to pay for the shipping to send it to them, which will cost hundreds of dollars. Very disappointed to see a product used for less than 5 hours and it’s essentially useless.

Maybe I’m being pedantic, but all KZbin reviewers do the UPS test with a laptop idling. that result is pretty much meaningless. An idling laptop draws only a few watts from its 60-90w power brick so the internal capacitors can hold up for a VERY long time, probably >50msec. A fair test would be to run a synthetic cpu benchmark while you’re doing the UPS test with the LFP battery, to present a more realistic load.

Certainly it's always good advice to read the manual...something I always take care to do as thoroughly as possible (though I admittedly still make mistakes from time to time), HOWEVER.... I'm not convinced you are correct on this. The cable with the battery clamps is terminated with an XT60 connector - which, as the name implies, is rated for a max of 60A continuous or up to 100A peak. So definitely not something you'd use for jumping a car. Also, jumping a car requires a special circuit to accumulate that charge and then discharge it in a short burst. Again...something I do not believe this E1500LFP has. I did double-check the manual online with Pecron to see if somehow I missed it, and it doesn't seem to say anything about jumping a car with it. Maybe I missed it...and if I did, show me where and I'll be happy to correct the record. cdn.shopifycdn.net/s/files/1/0509/5263/4556/files/E1500LFP_20231006.pdf?v=1696996069

Don’t know if you’re answering questions. If you are here’s my question. I am a 69-year-old female and only want a generator for emergency situations. I live in Florida therefore must have the air conditioning. (Can look into a portable unit if that is the smarter thing to run on a generator. ). Then the usual stuff like refrigerator, microwave, possibly the washing machine and a couple lights. Using all intermittently of course. Are these two Pecron units what I should be looking at, or can I get away with less expensive units? Thank you very much for your videos! They are very informative!

On DC capacity test, the Pecron says 130W usage and your tool says 120W, who's lying ?

The difference due to the resistence in my cable (and in this case...a connector on that cable introducing significantly more resistance than is otherwise normal (see my pinned comment)) causing voltage drop. So seeing some difference in those readings is actually normal...but it was exaggerated in this particular instance due to my connector issue.

Still prefer my e2000 over this. They cut the solar charging capacity in half beyond stupid!!! I bought mine to charge from solar not my house outlet. Only time I use my bricks is to run my generator for maintenance reasons. If I need another unit I would buy another E2000 the solar stinks on this one and I have no interest in tracking apps. Huge let down to each his own some people I guess buy solar generators to charge from their walls. Why bother its cheaper to just use your wall directly.

it is nice to have a range of products to meet different needs; in my area I have ocassional power outtages with little sun so solar is not the most important option. It is smart, not stupid to appeal to a range of needs greater than just yours.

EVERYONE has different needs. Solar would be mostly useless to me, so this unit works for those that don't need what you need.

To each his own. Silly me I thought it was a SOLAR statition. What I would want still appeals to you. You don't loose any charging from the wall capacity by having more solar input. My way actually appeals to everyone. No matter which way you want to charge the station you can. Your arguments make zero common sense. Hmm lets appeal to more people by cutting off one of the ways to charge? You guys should just get yourselves a battery box unit save yourselves a lot of money. @@mannys4036

How efficient has the solar charging been for you? Have you been able to get pretty close to the panels ratings?

I am in Florida. When its in the 90's no but still very good. When its in the 60's and crisp I will get the ratings. I have 2 400 watt q cells hooked into it. One on each port when its cool and sunny I will bring in over 800 watts on those panels. Bottom line the solar inputs work well. As far as full ratings everything has to be perfect, temperature, no clouds and the right angle. Hope that helps!@@Diaszurana
