Having the new Warcry as a "consolidated" edition with a lot of stuff from the ToCs and Alliance books, rather than pulling a complete KT2 (the manuals of which I sold after just a week) is really really REALLY a relief. I love the game, and it's the last GW title that I still play. I just hope that the campaign system doesn't fall for the KT2 style in which you can be indifferent for the current mission and go just forthe long term objectives. Yet the release calendar bother me a bit, as it seems quite crowded, but that's a problem for tomorrow.

I loved what they did to Kill Team, but I understand why you didn't like it. Warcry is not AOS lite, while KT 2018 was 40k lite. I think Kill Team needed those changes to stand on it's own as a game. Regardless, it's great to see you excited about this new product. I'm just starting Warcry now and I'm looking forward to the new box.

After what they did to the new Kill Team this is a real relief. The reactions system adds value and I can keep using my existing warbands. The single compendium even makes it more likely I’ll paint up a warband from an order or destruction faction if I don’t also have to buy additional books to run them.

I was interested in this box. I love the Bronze Age, Conan the Barbarian aesthetic. But it’s just too damn expensive of a box. $200 was my limit for Octarius last year. But if the compendium really has the stats for everyone like that l, I could get into Warcry through some of my spare AoS models.

There's a tactical element to the reactions that I love - namely that you now have some incentive to attack enemies that have already acted. Usually in games with alternate activation focusing enemies that having taken actions yet is beneficial since a kill doesn't just remove a model - it prevents that model doing anything before removal. Warcry is one of the few games where there is SOME incentive to focus a model that's already taken actions since it cannot react.

I am happy for you that most of the rules remain the same. I wonder if GW made this decision based on how the new edition of Killteam was received, but that might be me being cynical. Making your old models playable and not obsolete in a new edition will make players incredibly happy.

It's worth noting that new Kill Team is *very* popular right now. It has a very strong youtube community, and perhaps more importantly, it's more accessible to new players. Every Kill Team can be built with just one or two boxes of minis, and you're not at a disadvantage vs older players just because they've had a more robust bits bin from 20 years of hobbying, and can field a full squad of plasma gunners. My guess is that the next edition of Kill team, two years from now, will basically be a similar situation to this Warcry release - a small update with minor tweaks, rather than a total overhaul.

im so glad for this, im happy that reaction made into the main rules, that mechanism was part of the "coliseum" mode that came in the tome of champions, this will make the game more spicy and enjoyable, hope that bein on the realm of beast means more monsters for warcry

The updated lists are available on Warhammer Community for free (Chaos is being added there today). The only other change I heard mentioned is that you now have to split your models between your battlegroups as evenly as possible.

The most noticable change, an upgrade in price. For me the major drawl is of course the terrain which admittedly looks cool but honestly building janky looking rope bridges are probably one of the easiest terrain to make yourself, from material that you can almost get for free or next to it.

I'm a bit out of date, but the last I saw the chaos teams were pretty evenly spread out in power level with all the sigmar teams. That said last I checked was before the grand alliance books which gave more options, might have changed since. One thing was that the cultist teams tend to be less varied, since they are mostly in the human range. As opposed to something like ogors which have gnoblars to ogors.

I am surprised that you didn't mention many of the smaller tweaks to the rules that streamline things - like being able to take up to 3 "hero" characters in your warband, or how it doesn't take a crit to cause an enemy to fall from a platform. Even changing the fall-damage roll (used to hurt on 4, 5, or 6) so that the rules are consistent with "rolling low is bad, high is good" (now hurts on 1, 2, or 3).

It's a bit annoying that you dont get any chaotic creatures in here, especially with the price tag. That first box, many moons ago was a great format of two gangs, beasts and terrain, I think they all should have gone down that route.

The OG Warcry & Kill Team starter boxes from 2018/19 are from a GW golden age we will (probably) not see again where the value was so obvious. Now..... Not so much so.

Can't wait for more Info about the compendium. WarCry is one of my fav Games overall, but has a few balancing issues. A lot of games seemed already clearly decided, depending on the participants and scenario. Hope the new improved rules will also be in there. I have to many stuff anyways and don´t really wanna buy more plastic rn :p

I like the idea of warcry purely for the testbed for convertions to a later army so like that I can still use things I still have in the works (mainly as I'm slow as hell building at the mo)

Man I'm happy they did not pull a killteam. I was worried about that. The reaction system seems like a nice edition. If GW would have did this with old Killteam, I probably would have purchased it. My son and I were keeping an eye on this and deciding whether or not to buy it. Probably will now.

As far as I'm concerned, no point changing what's not broken. Warcry is one of GWs greatest games, in my opinion. I'm glad they added just enough to spice things up without completely changing the game.

I guess I am to take the points staying to mean that they realized that they overdid the simplification on the new Kill Team, which makes me hopeful for its next edition in two years. At least we're getting fantastic new models for hitherto underserved factions out of this one. Anyway, I do like Warcry as well. And the terrain looks great, but I'm only gonna get the books. Budgeting.

Games Workshop were cool enough to let me refund my Core Rulebook and Agents of Chaos book because I bought them this year so that took a nice chunk out of the final price of the preorder! Can't wait to get it, the horns of hashut have had my eye ever since their first reveal.

Really excited about this. Glad they kept the core rules the same, because unlike Kill Team 2018, Warcry has a really solid foundation. Wasn't huge on the boxed set, so I just preordered the rulebook from someone splitting the box up on eBay. I think reactions will go a long way to help cheaper high toughness models that are a little pillow-fisted (Iron Golems Legionnaires are a good example). Now they can do their job and sit on objectives, being somewhat hard to move, and do virtually as much damage just countering when they are attacked - and due to the 5 toughness many of these types of minis have, they will get missed quite a bit. Also, how cool is it that GW has announced all the older warbands will have free rules PDFs next week? Hopefully they include their new reactions.

Well, we'll see. They look like they are gearing up to have a dual faction book for each quarterly release, so by the end of year 1 you'd have core book, rot and ruin, compendium, plus 3-4 extra faction tomes. Not that I'm complaining, I'm definitely one of the whales people talk about, but I know it ticks people off. That said, I think most of the books are optional if you don't care about narrative play / lore for each and every faction. For the core game itself, pretty much everything is downloadable for free except the original chaos faction fighter cards (Iron Golem etc).

I'd be impressed if they manage to balance the warcry-specific warbands with the regular factions. The real reason behind the inequality isn't that the units are less powerful, but that a player with the option to min-max their warband with the best combination of units they can come up with is going to end up with a stronger warband than one who just picks up a small box set and fields whatever it gives them.

The best rule change is that now, beast and animals, can't take treasures anymore.... It was a big bug as it was to easy to take a treasure with your super fast pet and run away!

Honestly, Warcry 1e was such a good game I'm surprised they didn't make more changes in 2e. My only complaint is the icons. I understand why they do it, but it's easier to read a list of keywords than remember what all the little circle pictures mean.

Nice, getting to do something with a model instead of it just getting nuked. This also makes high T somewhat useful since even high S stuff will miss more. Removing a wound or 2 from a model might make the difference between scoring something and not. A question, are the new terrain cards standalone or do they reference the first starter set again like many of the cards the old warcry rebranded AoS terrain?

(Like Steelheart Champions, etc) In the updated profiles on WH Community, I don't see those anymore, just the generic AoS units. I wondered from the start why there wasn't such a reaction rule in the game. So many turn based strategy games have reactions or counters. To limit them is a good idea. You could also use up stamina if they added individual stamina tokens. That way you could wear down big foes and pin them down without a pin down rule. Of course it then gets ever more complicated and you have to do more housekeeping.

Definitely excited for this new edition. I haven't played Warcry yet, but have started building an AoS army with some coworkers, and WC seems like a good compliment game to have on hand with that since I'm sure we won't always feel like playing 2-3 hour long games. I won't be grabbing this box set since I have no interest in the warbands that come with it, and I don't think it's worth it for just the books and terrain alone. I'll just grab the books separately (do we know if the books will be available at the same time the box set is released? I noticed they're not up for preorder by themselves).

Sorry for offtopic, but I very often hear phrases like "Oh, if GW advertised the old 'fantasy' in the past as they advertise the Warhammer Age of Sigmar now ..."*** But. How is GW especially advertising Warhammer Age of Sigmar now? I definitely see: on the residual principle and excessive economy. I'm especially sad that a good animation trailer with Orks and Krieg was made for Kill Team, and for War cry - an equal game - only moving pictures, as usual. *** These people definitely forget about Warhammer Online. Whose hype and advertising were clearly more expensive than TW now.
