How glad I am to discover you! I’m an older guy, I was on the Mack development team in 1984, and I started using outliners with More for Mac. I have been a serial entrepreneur in software and in television production. At the beginning of Covid, I allowed myself to be lured into Obsidian, and all the other new note taking apps. Just a week ago I finally decided to go back to Workflowy, and to figure out workarounds for all of its shortcomings because it is truly the most extraordinary app of its kind. I even just did a deep dive on Tana, and for all of its promise, there sits the ever improving Workflowy. Today I came across one of your videos somewhat accidentally. I subscribed and find out that you are a UI guy who thinks the way I do. Thanks for your videos.

Thanks for the comment and so glad to hear it! I tried Obsidian too, but at the time, it just felt like too much to configure. Workflowy is so nice in that you can jump in and start using it without a lot of setup. Then, as time goes by, configure it to work the way you want it to. The flexibility is what works for me. Plus I seem to think in outlines, which makes it handy. I haven't tried Tana but it does look interesting. For me, the most important feature is being able to easily export/backup my data. One area where I have spent a lot of time is to use deep links to storage apps, such as craft, simply for storing any assets, photos, PDFs, etc. With that in hand I do all of my task and project text manipulation in Workflowy, and then link out to the storage that relates exactly to the project. Are used to think that this work around was too cumbersome, but recently I have found it to be very elegant.

Streamdeck is a great crossover with WorkFlowy! I also have a "reset checklist", a "paste to next sibling" and "insert line above" trigger on my streamdeck.

Oh I see. Similar here it seems. I've used text expanders like atext for mac or script apps like fastscripts that execute on keystroke or via a keyboard shortcut.
