I FOUND A VERY LOW MILEAGE REPLACEMENT ENGINE FOR 'MAUDE' MY MOREDOOR MK2 ESCORT AND IN THIS VIDEO I WENT TO COLLECT THE ENGINE AND BRING IT HOME BEFORE MAKING A START ON GETTING IT READY TO PUT INTO 'MAUDES' ENGINE BAY.

Good on you Marcus. People don't realise how hard it is for lads like us on the spanners, working on the floor outside in all weathers with mininal tools and no light! If your ever round the midlands and need a hand give us a shout. Most people take their cars to a garage and throw cash at there mechanic, I think we are a dying breed

Nice find Marcus, good mileage on that 170. Surely throttle bodies is the way to go with it. GSXR 750 bodies can be picked up for £100, you can space them apart easily and fit them straight to the short stubby part of the standard inlet manifold. Let me know if you want more info I’m just about to put a 170 lump in my kit car.

thanks! 😀 Im pretty sure Ill be running a carb set up but not sure whether to go DGV, DGAS, DCOEs or bike carbs. Ill decide once Iv got the engine ready to go in.

Maude will be lots of fun with the st motor. A set of 45 Weber's or bike carbs will wake Maude up lol 👍. I used to own a focus st170 a while ago and they are quite rapid cars in the day, we only had about 220 delivered to Australia so very rare..

Marcus, at 9:05 you talk about cutting the cam cover breather flush. Assuming you're fitting another one at right angle to it. Wondering how you go about drilling and fitting a new breather, cheers!

Yes I put them where the normal zetecs have them. You can buy a fitting which has a male thread one end and the other end is a hose barb (or an AN fitting if you'd prefer). So you can drill a hole and use a nut on the inside to hold the fitting to the cover. You'll have to remove the baffle inside to do it but its not a big deal. 👍

@@marcushayesford thanks for that! Yeah, I thought that the connector is either screwed in ie the cam cover is tapped or there's a nut on the inside. Assume you use a little bit of threadlock on the nut .. wouldn't want it vibrating loose! Also, you must get less 'oil splash' from the cams if the breather is behind the baffle?

Robert Reid I’m not sure if I used threadlock but I done it up suuuper tight. If it fails it would get stuck behind the baffle anyway rather than rattling around with the inlet cam. The baffle should indeed stop excess oil going through the breather but I have it plumbed to a catch can anyway. 👍

Awesome 👍🏾👍🏾, would like to do one here in New Zealand but have found a engine that is rewarded drive just would have to see about a gear box as it's got a auto in it it's in my mother's car lol but it would do the trick still alot of modifying but it's a twin cam motor and make up some headers for it but it's a a thing for later if I can do it

So close to 3k subs! I'm really looking forward to seeing this progress on Maude. I meant to say something a few videos ago, if you order your McDonald's wraps with no sauce they tend to make them fresh and then just carry a bottle of sauce of your choice in the car.. My go to is HP Fruity sauce. ;-) 👍 🇬🇧

I am thinking of a st170 but would run it on the ford Ecu to retain full Vvt control. What management are you going to use? Good luck and another great video

I think people have used the original ST170 ECU in escorts etc before but Im sure its much easier to run stand alone management. Motorsport Electronics sell the ME100 (for carbs) and the ME221 (for injection) that are capable of running the ST170 VVT correctly. 😀

Ill be documenting everything mate. The ST170 engine is essentially just a zetec so all the off the shelf RWD zetec conversion parts fit. As i said Ill be fitting a different sump and the inlet ports are slightly different and the alternator kit i have fitted to Maude wont fit straight on the the ST170 front cover but other than that it will be very straight forward.

Compared to the standard blacktop zetec in the car at the moment, the ST170 engine has POTENTIALLY around 20-30 bhp extra at the top end and a bit more low end / mid range torque but all that means nothing until i get the engine in and get the car to a dyno.😀

MARCUS HAYES Never had them on a car engine but I am a dab hand at bike carbs and its not hard to change the jets and setting them up and balancing them is easy. Plus sure there is videos on you tube about it!😂 there yours if you want them. You can get the manifolds on eBay. Really easy set up really as long as you get a fuel regulator so you don’t flood the carbs.
