@sksnnsksnsnsbsbb personally, I miss Belichick and disagree with him being pushed out. I also thought Vrabel was a better replacement than Mayo. This was a poor plan by the Krafts. While, I'm okay with Vrabel coming in, the Krafts gave up on their plan early. Both things can be true. If they knew this season was going to be rough, knew it was going to take time, and still did this to Jerod, then Im not sure what they were thinking to begin with. Problem with bill was he started to think he's such a great genius which was easy to think bc look how his draft choices got assessed by the media when he was (in the end horrible) reaching for players. If not for his success any other coach would've gotten let go much earlier and the facts are clear: the qb he thought wasn't that great anymore went to another team to win it all while the pats went downhill and in the end got the #3 pick to select drake maye for a reason!

As a Patriots season ticket holder who bought tickets in 1994 after the team went 1 and 15, I disagree with how management came to this decision. If the Krafts were not committed to letting Mayo build something then why didn’t you interview other candidates instead of anointing Jerod Mayo as coach. Management set him up to fail then blamed him when things didn’t go well. No good manager who is worth their salt would ever set an employee up to fail then walk away the way the Krafts did. It’s a bad look and poor decision.
@bradleydame28716 күн бұрын
Pats were 1-15 in 1990, so your timeline may be a bit off. I agree that Mayo was set up to fail. The Krafts are the problem here. That being said, I believe that it was the right decision to let him go under these circumstances. This team needs a complete reset.

The mismanagement was choosing Mayo in the first place instead of doing a proper coaching search. Yes, he was put in a bad situation and expectations were low with this team to begin with but this is more so Kraft admitting that handing Mayo the job purely because he was "Bill's heir apparent" was more about favoritism towards a player he loves instead of a smart football decision. He tried to convince everyone that it was a good decision and that idea faded quickly as the losses continued to pile up. I'll always respect Mayo as a player, but he simply didn't look like he knew what he was doing as a coach and it showed. It's easy to look at them firing Mayo so quickly as a red flag but the real red flag was giving Mayo such a difficult job without coaching experience in the first place.

If Bill Belichick was going to be succeeded, a person with head coaching experience or a high degree of coordinator experience would have been more appropriate. Let’s be honest: There’s no such thing as the “Patriot Way”. This franchise sucked for 40 years, then they got a good coach and lucked into Tom Brady who was very fortunate to be playing in a time where the rules favored QBs. That’s it. They can now go back to being a bumbling franchise that almost had to move to St Louis due to dwindling fan support.

Tom Landry, Dan Campbell, Jimmy Johnson, etc. they name guys that had so much experience before getting their HC position. Mayo was a linebacking coordinator and an assistant to Steve Belichick. The guy wasn’t ready, it was as clear as day. Yes we should blame Kraft, because he should have never been in that position in the first place. But to keep Mayo as HC would be foolish, he isn’t ready.

What no one is talking about is that the Kraft’s where basically forced to hire Jerod because DEI what at its height and the Boston sports media had already decided that it had to be Jerod Mayo . Well, it backfired . At first it made the Krafts look good until it totally collapsed. I do not blame Jerod , he did what he could and the Krafts didn’t do much to support him in terms of getting some good players. If a DEI hire is in the government or a private company , no problem, they can cover it up but in a sports team you can’t hide the numbers. I like Jerod but I just don’t believe he was ready for this job yet but I think that he has a lot of potential to be a great coach in the NFL in a few years. Thanks.

The mistake was hiring Mayo in the first place. He just wasn’t ready through no fault of his own. The job too big for him. Mayo needs seasoning outside of the Pats bubble. Work as an assistant for 3-5 years. Assistants under BB have not fared well as HCs bc all decisions flowed through BB. This wasn’t a heathy training environment for future HCs.

So If the Next Coach is 4-13 in 2025, Do you fire Him??
@OhGummy15 күн бұрын
No, the mismanagement was hiring Mayo to begin with without conducting a single interview of anyone else. The mismanagement was winning against Buffalo when a loss guaranteed the first overall pick. The mismanagement was having your successor coach lined up for YEARS and it was a guy that didn’t have a day of experience. Firing Mayo and acknowledging their mistake this quickly is the first competent thing the Patriots have done all year.

Suggest the thread needs to change its perspective. Keep in mind that when there term is thrown out that Mayo was “fired”, he is still going to receive his guaranteed contract. He most likely has at least $3.5m-$7m still coming his way. The root cause to this situation is Mayo supposedly had a buyout clause of $10m in his assistant coach contract that guaranteed he would succeed BB. Terrible arrangement, and explains why the Patriots didn’t do a comprehensive search. Having seen him in action, the Krafts must have been convinced that Mayo wasn’t going to get them to the playoffs. So much so that they are willing to forfeit the balance of time and money on Mayo’s deal.

I am a diehard pacers fan and did not agree with with Mayo hire nothing against Tim, but that was a towel task for someone who’s never been a head coach given the shape we were in completely rebuilding we have nobody no team really but it went like I expected pretty much. We basically finish with the same record or close to it. We have the last four years so it shocked me to hear this I would like to see Tom Brady become the head coach. I think he would make an amazing head coach not just saying it because his record but he basically coached and carried the team for the last decade. Not saying Bill Belichick was a bad coach. I just think times have changed and slowly passing him by. I think Brady is able to get the most out of the people around him. He’s smart. He’s able to get people in and free agents because he don’t necessary look at the stats, kinda like him he knows what it takes to be a great player. I really think Brady could come in and within two years.We could resemble what we had the last decade but I know Brady has gave so much over the last 20 years. Not very fair to fire a guy after one year when he inherited a poor team and had a rookie QB, but the Not For Long league has never been about what is fair, it is about results. That and the funeral like atmosphere on the bench and in the locker room. The comparison people are making to Dan Campbell is infuriating! Sure, Dan had a bad record to start his career but he made great picks in the draft. He has charisma coming out of his ears, the teams loved him even when they were losing.
