Same. I literally hate JPOP, but a friend recommended Atarashii Gakko, so I gave it a shot and now I'm hooked.

One possible reason for shorter songs is to better accommodate their high energy choreography. It can be pretty intense, and in live shows it's easier to keep the performance going strong if they have shorter songs. That's especially true when they string together a few different songs, without a breather in between. That's just a theory, as it could just be the trend or a combination of a few reasons.

Keep in mind that Japanese vowel sounds are always pronounced the same way when written out in Romanized or Romaji form. A is aah like what your doctor tells you to say. E is eh like the word neck is pronounced. I is a long e EEE sound. O is a long o like the word oh. U is uuu like someone scaring you, Boo.. So.... Rin = Reen Kanon = Kah-nohn Mizyu = Meez-you Suzuka = Suu-zuu-kah
