I have been a head banger since the mid 1970s when someone played the first couple Sabbath albums for me and I never looked back. Priest and Maiden have been my number 2 and 3(tied) ranked bands of all time and I saw IM and JP live in the same concert in 1982 and I would have said no one would ever move them down a notch in my lifetime because I'd never see anything better than KK Downing and Glenn Tipton in their prime. I was mistaken. I found Lovebites in 2019 and while it took me a while to believe it they did what I thought was the impossible, they are the best double leads I have ever seen and heard, with a top tier drummer, and now they have a new bass player that those other bands would have never dreamed of(That is saying a lot considering the likes of Steve Harris). When they came back in their Ride for Vengeance show after the lockdown in Japan I could tell they did nothing but practice during the time off and they have gotten even better since. They have no duds in their entire catalog, it is all great to amazing.

And this is with their former bassist, I think, who was excellent and was, if I recall, the actual band leader (miho)... but their new bassist (Fami) that they returned with is OUTRAGEOUS.. the one on their new album that we are only just starting to see in the music videos being released over the past few weeks. But I was a fan of their new bassist before I even knew who LoveBites was... and I am a fan of the band because of their new bassist Fami, initially, and now am so blown away by Miyako (guitar and keyboards).... she's such an incredibly brilliant musician (amazing concert pianist and neo-classical metal guitarist), and then there's midori who recently became super muscular (literally) and is such a showy rock star lead guitarist.... holy moly.... haruna is amazing on drums of course (although I have to say that every female japanese metal drummer I've heard is shockingly amazing).... and Asami (vocals) is amazing for the symphonic neo-classical metal they do as she clearly is that kind of almost operatic vocalist..... WHAT A BAND.....

It's not just M&M. I don't think there's ever been a 5-piece band where all five are this technically gifted. I actually think this was probably not a huge challenge for them--just a matter of practicing to get all the tones right. Among three piece bands, the best comparison is Cream, and they now have a Japanese rival called Asterism (yes, check them out.)

Gary, you seemed a bit excited over this one, lol. Lovebites did this cover justice, but I wasn't surprised. If I were to compare the two I'd give just a slight edge to the orginal, but since I got accustom to it, I might be biased. I will give this one a few more listens. The ladies had a song Judgement Day from the same album as stand and deliver that was released a few weeks prior is a awesome power metal song from the ladies, if you want to see something different from them try “epilogue” one of the best power ballad out there, i’ve seen plenty of grown men and women brought to tears.

These two songs follow after the intensity of this Painkiller cover with the speed and ferocity that only Lovebites can bring. Comparing Lovebites to Judas Priest, Painkiller is in my top five metal albums all time sooo..... You just take a short look into the japanese hardrock and metal room. You will get enough hints for other fantastic metal bands. For hardrock try Band-Maid with thier new instrumental "From now on" , (Band-Maid is a must know Band for professionals) or the jazz/rock/pop Band Gacharic Spin with a teaser like the MV "Mindset". All are female and all have superb playing skills.

In the original Painkiller the guitars sound "muddy" compared to this. When Lovebites made this recording (I was stupid and bought the 4 disk version of the album and not the 5 disk version) I listened the original and this cover back to back

Let’s face it, they improved the original by refreshing it. It’s not a common thing, you have to be an extremely talented musician to be able to do it. There are other bands that cover 80s-90s metal songs, but usually I stick with the original. Not this time! 🐺🤘🏻

@@garyguitarguy84 Yep - but I stand by those words. The guitar work by Lovebites is every bit as technically precise as the original, but Lovebite's sound is cleaner. (To be fair, that is probably the result of using more modern equipment and/or the mixing techniques made by the sound technicians.) Miho's bass work is on par with the original, but I really believe that Haruna's drumming is clearly superior than in the original. Have a listen to both songs again and see if you agree. Vocally comes down to personal preference, which is why my original comment emphasised "musically".

Definitely modern engineering helps
